00:00In this bustling market in southern Tehran, a group of young friends are killing time
00:05under the midday sun.
00:07Iran's presidential candidates have spent weeks trying to drum up enthusiasm amongst
00:12potential voters.
00:13But so far, these ones aren't convinced.
00:15We don't have hope of getting better, if it had gotten better, it would have been now.
00:20We don't have hope.
00:21There is a goal that they have to obey Zafari, that Akhash is not this or that.
00:25The economic crisis has largely dominated presidential debates here in Iran.
00:35And though some people say they won't vote, others say it's the only way to ensure that
00:40the country's economy gets back on its feet again.
00:44Inflation is out of control and it's having an impact on every sector.
00:47I think it's better to come together and vote because it's in our own interest and the interest
00:52of the government.
00:53For a long time, we had faith in them.
00:55I hope they keep their promises.
00:57I'm optimistic.
01:01The economic situation is very hard for young people.
01:04I understand their suffering.
01:06That said, they're wrong to sit it out.
01:07We must come together and vote.
01:12But it's not just the economy that people are talking about here.
01:18Equality is one of the most important issues for Iranian women.
01:21That will continue until we purge our society, our laws and our culture of machismo.
01:29At Iran's last presidential election in 2021, turnout fell below 50 per cent.
01:35A higher turnout this time round could have dramatic consequences on the outcome.
