Feedlots have dominated Pakenham's final store sale, buying the bulk of the cattle in the main yarding.

00:00Anthony today, final sale at Pakenham, a bit of a sad day but you went out with a bang didn't you?
00:05Yeah, good result right through. We had a terrific run of wieners down our second sale where we
00:09sold them for the last time and pretty much just local competition which is good to see.
00:15As I sort of explained earlier we're almost can see our way through winter now with younger cattle
00:20and locally it's just a few people sort of scouting around for a few to replace what
00:24they've sold as either a feeder or a bullock. So yeah, no one outside of the area really
00:28purchased it here today but wasn't really needed for the amount of young wiener cattle that were
00:32here. They sold very well to a good local competition. So what sort of prices were
00:37you looking at in the wieners? So most our good sort of Angus calves around the 300 kilo mark
00:41were sort of from $1,050 to $1,150. Hep they're still dragging the chain a bit like they have
00:46been everywhere. We're only sort of seeing the same sort of weight make up to $800 probably tops
00:51of good sales but generally sort of $650 to $750 and along the lines like that. Secondary cattle
00:56probably sold to a little bit dearer trend today than we've seen from previously.
01:00Feedlots predominated on the heavier stuff pretty much they bought just about everything didn't they?
01:05Once you get over 400 kilos you're in a different bracket at the moment and as I did say earlier
01:09we might just be starting to see the pinch a little bit of what their
01:13what their supply is outside of the markets because we've seen them very active. The stronger
01:17rates here today which I don't believe has anything to do with the last sale it's just
01:21a trend that we're starting to see in a bit of a shortage in that category. Price wise what we're
01:26looking at for the feeders? Yeah what we've seen previously is more your $360 to $370 today was
01:30$380 up to $4 quite consistently not just the odd sale sort of there were so many pens that
01:36made that money yesterday.
