00:00Good morning. We are at the gate right now to get into Red Rocks for the first car in line.
00:04Last night we packed up.
00:15Probably do this outside. This looks like a three-year-old trying to open it.
00:30Big objective that we're doing today here in Red Rocks. We're trying to climb Johnny Vegas to Solar Slab.
00:40I'm excited. I'm excited to get these guys up a 2,000 foot wall. It's gonna be pretty epic.
00:46We're gonna fly a bit.
00:46I asked Averin to give me a little bit of sunscreen. He clearly gave me too much.
01:16I'm super, super nervous right now. This is the biggest climb I've done by a long shot.
01:28All right, so we're doing Johnny Vegas to Solar Slab. Johnny Vegas is about 500 foot, 5'7",
01:35and then Solar Slab is about 1,500 foot, 5'6", and 1,500 foot because
01:43we are going to top out and walk off the back.
01:46All right, so we got Rob leading the first pitch of Johnny Vegas.
02:13Pitch three, Johnny Vegas. End roping with Rob.
02:43So did we just finish Johnny Vegas? We did. We're at the top of Johnny Vegas.
03:12Your third Red Rock multi-pitch.
03:17So they're just behind this rock, breaking down the anchor of Johnny Vegas.
03:21I'm gonna scramble up to about there, start a Solar Slab.
03:41So
04:11how are we feeling, Rob? Awesome. Super fun. First pitch done.
04:33We're freaking cruising this, man.
04:35For a team of three, and you being your first time out here, we're cruising.
04:56So we are about to start pitch three and four. We're going to link up,
05:00and they're both 5'6", and then after the route, everything is easier than 5'6".
05:05So we've been cruising, making good time. It's been a really fun climb so far.
05:09You look so funny right now. Do I?
06:01So
06:13after making our way through the first six pitches, we made it to a point where we were
06:17very exposed on the rock, and the wind picked up quite a bit.
06:22So
06:26the next pitch was pitch seven, and this one was rated at 5.3,
06:30and we decided that this would be a great opportunity for me to practice leading a
06:33trad route. Now while this is a super easy grade, at this point we are almost above 1500 feet above
06:39the valley floor, so this was very intimidating, and the wind didn't help at all, but I decided
06:44to go for it.
06:53So
07:09I just led my first trad route. Very scary, but very fun. Got up here to reward myself with some
07:15Reese's Pieces, and as I was handing them to Rob, they just completely slipped out of my hands. So
07:21I've got Reese's Pieces everywhere,
07:28and I'm still eating them. I'm already so dirty,
07:32but I feel kind of crazy just in this little bivvy eating Reese's Pieces off the ground.
07:41Rob might be above eating on the ground, but Averin is not. He joined me. That's right.
07:52So we are about to go up to the last 5.5 pitch or solar slab, which is right here in this corner,
08:08and then we're doing the walk off out the back, and we'll only have to do
08:12two rappels versus like, I don't know, nine or something like that. It's our last pitch on rope.
08:51So
09:13I had a great pace, a great time, just incredible views. Once you step into the back, you just
09:20feel like you get lost again, which is what I love about this. You can't experience the
09:26scenery that we experienced without climbing a 2,000 foot wall. You can't hike to the top,
09:31so it's a little extra special.
09:49So
10:08I'm going to put the camera away. We did three rappels. Last one was the biggest rappel I have
10:13ever done, but yeah, going to put the camera away for the hike back and walk back, but hope you
10:17guys liked it. It's been an awesome day. Polish climb. Yeah, super incredible climb,
10:24incredible descent, and incredible friends. So love that. Made it back. So I didn't record any
10:32of that descent. It was freaking crazy. We were just going down the riverbed of like 10 to 30
10:38foot boulders. It's really fun. We made it car to car in just under 12 hours, which was really,
10:43really cool. Great day. That's a wrap. Great day, guys.
