00:00Skeknes Royal British Legion said they would need thousands of poppies for their remembrance display at the Clock Tower this year.
00:07And Skeknes Grammar School has been helping.
00:09You must be very proud of your pupils for making these amazing poppies.
00:13I am. It's absolutely brilliant.
00:15We had some of the poppies that we'd made previously, but we had the idea of using the base of bottles,
00:20squashing them down and painting them to make a more three-dimensional outcome.
00:24So we painted them with acrylic paint and then we sprayed them with a lacquer to make sure they won't run in the rain.
00:30And then we attached them with little bits of dowel so we can stick them in the ground to go around the display
00:36that Tracey wants to do from the Royal British Legion.
00:39So yeah, I'm extremely proud with the way they've produced the work.
00:43Were they easy to make?
00:46Pretty easy, yeah. And it's also quite a good way of recycling the bottles.
00:50So how many of you have been involved in helping with the appeal?
00:55There's about 30 of us in a class that did this.
00:58And why did you want to take part?
01:01It's just quite fun and it's helpful for the country and everything.
01:08Are you looking forward to seeing them around the Clock Tower?
01:10Yeah.
01:11It's mind-blowing. We are so humbled.
01:14The different mediums, the different demographics of the community that are taking part.
01:20These from the Grammar School are amazing.
01:23They are absolutely fabulous and they'll just fit in so well around the display we're doing.
01:27They need a lot of poppies, don't you?
01:30Thousands and thousands. People don't realise how big the area is.
01:35We're putting poppies on camo nets.
01:38The camo nets are nine metres square and we need six of those.
01:44People are just, every demographic, out of the county, in the county.
01:49People that would never cross in normal life or everyday life are all coming together for this one event.
01:58It's amazing.
02:00And how many more do you think you're going to need?
02:04Thousands. Absolutely thousands.
02:06We did a little dummy run. We pinned out a poppy net and we just, 300 poppies on, nothing.
02:14So we are going to need thousands and thousands and thousands, all different mediums.
02:19Please and thank you.
02:20So your message to the local community?
02:23Keep knitting, keep crocheting, keep crafting, keep painting, spraying, keep colouring, laminating, whatever you are doing.
02:31We are so grateful and it is going to look spectacular, I promise.
02:35And how will they get in touch with you?
02:37So they can get in touch either by email, which is skegness.vice, at vicechair, at rbl.community.
02:47They can go on Facebook, we're all over social media, on the Skegness Royal British Legion page.
02:53They can phone 01754 768401 during the day.
02:59We've still got wool if anybody needs wool.
03:03Please just don't stop what you're doing, it's going to be incredible.
