00:00The student pilots are said to be just as good as their pilot instructors.
00:09Captain JT Cordova is one of the youngest but most experienced instructors in the Aviation Academy.
00:20At the age of 23 years old, he has taught more than 30 students.
00:26All of them are now pilots.
00:30He is one of the best instructors, he was my pre-solo instructor as well.
00:35JT started flying airplanes early.
00:40So when the flying school opened in Dumaguete, he immediately tried to enroll here.
00:46They opened in 2013. I came here I guess in 2014.
00:52The manager told me to come back when I was 16.
00:55How old were you when you first came here?
00:5714. But I came back in 2015.
01:01At the age of 17, JT became a pilot.
01:05Since then, he has completed hundreds of flights.
01:10Did anyone express concern for you?
01:14Yes, especially my mom.
01:18Especially if like bad weather, she would call me and message me, where are you?
01:23But they got used to it.
01:26Before you can fly in an airplane, you must be trained.
01:34Yes, trained and also you need to be proficient.
01:39Another important part of being a pilot is flight simulator training.
01:45This is like a high-tech computer game,
01:48where you can experience flying an airplane.
01:56I think this is the fastest flying school crash course in the world.
02:02After just one day of lectures, I will try the simulator.
02:07I've never done it before, so it will be very interesting.
02:11And even if it's just a simulator, I'm really nervous.
02:20My instructor is Captain Aurelian Kunz.
02:27The location of our simulated flight is Metro Manila.
02:32This is the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
02:36Oh, I can see the Terminal 1.
02:39So here you have your speed indicator, which gives you the speed of your aircraft in knots.
02:45Here you have your altitude indicator, you have your altimeter.
02:49This one will give you your altitude.
02:51Cap first explained to me the different instruments used in flying.
02:57But then in the yoke, there are two controls.
03:00You have your bank control, but you also have your pitch.
03:03That controls all the electrical system.
03:05And this one is your ignition.
03:07That's a lot.
03:09That's a lot.
03:11There are so many buttons.
03:14It's confusing.
03:16It's pressuring.
03:17It's pressuring, but that's the point of a simulator.
03:21Your life is not in danger.
03:24So we can make mistakes here.
03:27Let's do it.
03:29We can begin.
03:32All the way.
03:37Apply a little bit right rudder to stay in the middle of the runway.
03:41A little bit more.
03:43That's the rudder that now we apply.
03:45And then we see that our speed increase.
03:48Around 65 now.
03:50You can start to pull.
03:52And then it will fly already.
03:55Our takeoff was a success.
04:04So I'm still around 2,000 feet.
04:07That's good.
04:09And then just go around BGC, all of these buildings.
04:14That's a little tense.
04:20First reduce your power.
04:22We have to join the button at 1,000 feet.
04:27The runway is there.
04:37Slowly.
04:39Start to add a little bit pressure.
04:41Okay.
04:43A little bit more.
04:45More.
04:47More.
04:49Yes, yes, yes.
04:51Lord.
04:59Congratulations.
05:02Shock. I got nervous.
05:03I got nervous.
05:06Wow.
05:08You need 110% concentration.
05:11You're thinking a lot.
05:13The pitch, the elevation, the power, where are you?
05:18My God.
05:20Multitasking is the...
05:22Multitasking indeed.
05:26I survived.
05:28Thank you so much for watching Eyewitness.
05:30Mga Kapuso, anong masasabi niyo sa dokumentaryong ito?
05:33I-comment na yan at mag-subscribe sa YouTube channel ng GMA Public Affairs.
