00:08Hey by manning here. Welcome to the garden report NBA draft edition and
00:14The Celtics will once again try to find a player that they can invest in into the future
00:21develop
00:22Maybe fit into the depth spots the bench on this team as they did a year ago with
00:28Jordan Walsh and this year a similar situation for Boston
00:33They're at 30 in the first round. So they will have a pick in Wednesday's NBA draft
00:38They will have a second round pick
00:40Thanks to I believe the grant signing trade got them a second round pick this year
00:44Of course, they moved back a ton to it might have been the moving back last year
00:48They got them a second round pick this year and they have plenty of second round picks to play around with into the future
00:54So both options exist Yahoo reporting that the Celtics looking to move up and down this board and they're open to both possibilities there I
01:03Would lean down just for the cap reasons for the cost reasons and that's something the Celtics have to consider here
01:11Two years guaranteed salary for the 30th overall pick think a little bit more flexibility possible with a second round pick
01:17So do you accumulate more assets into the future by moving into the second round that kicks you back to day two?
01:23or do you see a guy that you want to consolidate all those second round picks for and go all-in on and
01:29Trade up in the first round that again feels unlikely here. So I'm gonna balance those two possibilities the
01:36enormous uncertainty with this draft
01:39alongside the fact that
01:41Things go any number of directions here and balance maybe some late first round guys to keep an eye on
01:47alongside some
01:48Guys that could be there early in the second round the Celtics do decide to
01:52Jump back a few spots and that's something I've heard is certainly a possibility here going into the weekend
01:57But the expectation is the Celtics will come out of this draft with at least one with at least one player
02:03So who could that be?
02:04Let's start with Dukes Kyle Filipowski a guy who's been there for a couple years
02:10I'm obviously a pretty avid ACC watcher being a Syracuse guy. He only has played two seasons there
02:18And
02:19He's seven feet. He is a shooter
02:2320 years old feels older and not a huge plus-plus wingspan almost feels like a Kelly Olenek in a way
02:31I know that's who Kevin O'Connor
02:33Compared him to sending him to the Raptors at 31. So he doesn't anticipate
02:38Filipowski being there at 30
02:40Others have him going in the 20s, which seems possible to me
02:43He's at 35% last year a pretty big jump from 28% the year before on threes shot three a game
02:50Eight rebounds a game good number three assists a game a good number
02:55KOC notes, he keeps the ball moving relocate screens cuts on offense
03:02Can steal a smaller guy in the post?
03:05Has a nice touch inside and out a hard playing defender as well
03:11And certainly some of the Celtics are familiar with through
03:14Their assistant coach Emil Jefferson who the year before he arrived in Boston a former Duke player himself
03:20Was an assistant on that Duke staff when Filipowski was a freshman
03:25So someone I'm sure who worked with Filipowski directly and knows him
03:29Well can provide some insight and familiarity with his game
03:33this seems like the kind of guy who can both play right away if the Celtics lose one or two centers in that frontcourt and
03:40Develop into something better long-term, which if you're gonna use that 30 pick, I think that's the kind of guy you want to
03:48Target at that spot
03:49Would you move up a few spots to go get him if you feel like he's gonna go before you're possibly out of the mix
03:55there
03:56That's this team's biggest need they like shooting
03:59They like complementary skills on offense at that big man position and a guy who can defend and that's something Filipowski is certainly
04:07capable of doing there
04:09Sam Bassini who I respect a ton has Filipowski at
04:1316 so certainly someone who could be gone by that 30 spot
04:18But he among many is my favorite prospect to go to Celtics at 30 if he is available there
04:25Less favored in my mind, but more likely to be there is Tyler Smith of the G League ignite
04:30He comes into this draft at 19. So certainly upside possible there on that ignite team. He played 43 games
04:37Average 14 5 with an assist and a block per game 48% from the field
04:4436% from 3
04:46See a couple different measurements for him. I've seen him as low as 6 9 seen him as high as 6 11
04:51So let's just call him 6 10. Certainly. That's some center size. So I have seen him peg more as a 4
04:57This is a guy a lot of fans seem to like there's certainly shooting possibility there
05:03nice lefty
05:05approach from 3 and
05:0937% on catch-and-shoot threes according to Bassini and synergy
05:13That's a good number and that's something that the Celtics can certainly work with what I like here is the Celtics ability to work with bigs
05:21Integrate them into their system. There's defensive concerns here and size as far as 5 goes could be an issue here
05:28But that isn't something that has scared the Celtics off in the past with centers. They've gone with some undersized guys
05:34They've succeeded in integrating those guys in the defensive system in Maine
05:38And it's certainly be plenty of runway for a guy like Tyler Smith to develop in Maine
05:43It feels like he's gonna be there. It's a position of need you like shooting at that position. There's defensive questions
05:50Sam Bassini really doesn't like his defense and where it's at right now
05:55KOC has him at 29 in the mock draft with 3 and D upside
06:01Calls him a non-factor on defense though who looks lost out there freezes defending pick and rolls
06:07finishing at the rim a little bit of an issue to 43% on layup attempts according to synergy and
06:13again, 36% KOC notes isn't a
06:17outstanding number
06:19He played for overtime elite previously in high school made 35% and 30% in two seasons there from three
06:26And he's 69% at the line this year, which isn't great
06:30That's his lifetime mark AOC notes
06:32So a flawed prospect
06:34But again as we consider things here
06:36All of these guys are gonna be flawed
06:38All of these guys are gonna have a reason that you might not want to take them at 30 who has the most bankable skill
06:43at that spot
06:45Smith's a
06:47Mixed bag there. So not my favorite prospect Filipowski. You get bankable size. You get bankable shooting and
06:53I'm
06:55Great experience in Duke, which I think is valid as well familiarity in his case, too
07:01I think the most exciting guy at this spot if he's there and again, it's hard to survive
07:08Until shooting goes off the board basini has Baylor Shireman who's next on my list here of Creighton at?
07:1522 a guy who could certainly be gone by 30
07:19Because he shot 38% from 3 on 8 attempts last year another lefty 6 6 6 8 wingspan. He's a wing
07:27Good smart player. He notes who is a great rebounder, which I think is exciting Hauser
07:33Who they're gonna have to look to replace at some point here
07:36I would think I'm not as strong on the boards, which is probably his weakest point in his game
07:41He got a little better this year defense certainly a strength of Hauser's
07:45Athleticism quickness a question with Shireman maybe something that gets him down to 30, but the shooting certainly something that's bankable there for him
07:5547% in 2022 at South Dakota State which allowed him to transfer to create and break out there. He played five college seasons
08:03So he's a little older. He's 23 coming in
08:07So not really a ton of upside I would think at that spot
08:10But do you need upside at that spot or do you just need a guy who could grow into?
08:15Position they certainly assigned drew Peterson an older guy in his own right to a two-way deal to try to fit that mold
08:22But there's a lot to like here some pick-and-roll skills koc notes
08:27Had great feel a willing passer and a solid defender who puts in an effort on that end
08:32Which I think is all you're looking for
08:35Not a great athlete. I think you can deal with that Hauser certainly wasn't either though
08:39He did throw down a few dunks in his day with the Celtics there
08:42So Baylor Shireman another guy worth looking out for at 30 we move on but first our sponsors
08:51Love prize picks this time of year any one of these guys could become someone you love on prize picks one day

09:46Concerts and events as well. I'll be looking to go to the hiatus coyote show later this month and I'll be checking out game time
09:52So great app go check them out
09:56next on our list a
09:58Few guys who are probably more in the second round range
10:01Which again if the Celtics pop back a little bit or they just like these guys at 30
10:05They could roll with them Jalen Tyson. I'll start with first a Cal guy
10:09More of a wing prospect, but some ball handling skills there, which makes them a little more versatile
10:15At that spot. That's who Michael Scott. Oh has mocked to the Celtics at 30
10:20Who's pretty tapped in they have not worked him out. And again
10:24Shireman has worked out for the Celtics other guys. I've mentioned have not it appears at least based on the hoop type list
10:31I'm looking at here. What does he bring to the table? I think some guard skills. I think availability
10:37I think he's more likely not gonna be there at
10:4128
10:42Shot 36% from three last year. I think that's a good number six five
10:48220 pounds so he's switchable a solid athlete strong
10:52I don't think there's gonna be any physical issues on that end and he averaged 6.8 rebounds a game last year
10:59Which is a good number
11:00I think the Celtics want to have some wings some guys who are versatile at that spot fit in as rebounders
11:07Decent finisher around the rim. I
11:10Think you're looking at free throws
11:1379% that's a good number
11:16He just does a little bit of everything 3.5 assists per game
11:20You like that the catch-and-shoot stuff gonna be very important for him. He's a dunker
11:2837% on catch-and-shoot this year
11:3143.1% at Texas Tech a year ago. He played for Texas Texas Tech and
11:36California so he's playing a number of different situations
11:396.8 wingspan vicinity notes not overly wrong a lot of turnovers 3.1 per game
11:45That's a question but again you get a lot of stuff here
11:49In turn for the issues and there's gonna be issues with every guy on that spot some defensive issues
11:55I think you can clean that up
11:574.5 threes per game under to some mechanical issues that
12:03The scene he didn't love as far as ko C goes at that spot. He has him at 39
12:09compares him to Jared Dudley Ryan Gomes a
12:13Good creator can get his own shot off shooter off the dribble floaters mid-range sometimes a three
12:20And again the catch-and-shoot they're gonna be important for him in that Boston
12:24Context rebounding a plus. So what are we talking about here?
12:29He carried a heavy weight for himself at Cal. It looks like he's 21. Those aren't major downsides for Boston
12:35I think you like the intensity the physicality and especially the ability to switch here
12:40There aren't a lot of guys who look very switchable at this spot. I'm going back to Tyler Smith and Philip house key
12:45I don't think he's gonna be a major switching big this guy can switch
12:48So if you're looking for someone with a little bit more of an immediate impact
12:51I think Jalen Tyson is the move here at 30 and then we go to the draft and stash
12:57Possibility which is always something you have to think about 30. It would be a little awkward and
13:02home
13:04Daddy a an 18 year old from France
13:07Who played in all which I believe is in Germany
13:10So there's some Killian Hayes parallels there, I guess which you don't love to think about and I don't think is overly
13:18relevant, but again similar kind of path there for an 18 year old and
13:24He is connected through ESPN to the Celtics at 30. So interesting
13:29He remained in the draft had a withdrawal deadline could have stayed could have gone
13:33So his intent is to play in the NBA
13:36Immediately, it appears according to ESPN. He's visited with Boston, Orlando, Miami, Philly, San Antonio, Milwaukee, Brooklyn
13:43All those teams are more in that early second round. So if the Celtics stay here
13:47I think it's more likely than not that daddy a is there. He's 6-9. He has shot-making ability
13:52He's trying to figure out what he is at this point
13:55It feels like but if he's a guy that you can keep overseas for a year
13:59I think that's a plus at 30. You don't have to pay out that first round contract there as Brad Stephens said today
14:05You're not looking for immediate impact for most of these guys. It's gonna be tough for any of these guys to break the rotation
14:10So why not go with the youngest guy with the most upside?
14:13Someone who could maybe even turn into a star at this spot and this is really the only guy
14:17I think you look at here in this mix who has that kind of upside
14:226'7 6'9 wingspan great body control of the scene he notes in Germany shot 52 from the field 37 from 3
14:3080% from the line, that's all really good
14:33So, what are you looking at here movement off ball? That's important 45 cuts
14:40All of those off the all of those lean the buckets over the past year here
14:47You can get him on the move handoff plays you can use him as a little bit of a screener too, I'm sure
14:55So you just versed it out can fit in he's a guy that I think you can just plug in eventually and
15:01Have him impact this team not overly explosive
15:04That's the downside you're looking at their defense a work in progress
15:10and
15:11Kind of a guy who just bumps around uses physicality offensively
15:14I see that as a plus because again, you're gonna have to be physical in the NBA not much of a creator either
15:21Right now it looks like I don't think that's a problem. That's something he can work on. He's 18. So the tools are there
15:28the physicality is there and he already produced at
15:3518 in a
15:37Pro German League. I think that's all good stuff and I wouldn't mind seeing a guy from overseas
15:43Develop over there and then maybe come to Boston in a year could go to Maine if that's what he wants to do
15:49So all that is a plus he's a guy would have no problem with the Celtics taking here
15:53And so those are the five guys to look at heading into tomorrow
