Information covering discrimination, housing, health and planning ahead, specifically for LGBTQIA+ seniors, is included in the new Rainbow Rights Toolkit
Transcript
00:00Older LGBTQIA plus people no longer need to struggle to find services designed specifically
00:05to support them.
00:08The Rainbow Rights Toolkit brings them all together in one place.
00:11The Rainbow Rights Toolkit brings together a lot of resources that talk about rainbow
00:16rights from our perspective.
00:17A lot of other resources, they just touch on it, you know, a paragraph here or a sentence
00:23there.
00:24This brings it all together so you can, it's for providers and allies as well as the rainbow
00:29community to find out about housing, overcoming discrimination, health and planning ahead
00:36as well as some of our history of activism and, you know, working together in solidarity.
00:43It was launched in Adelaide during Pride Month, June, and it quickly won favour with the community.
00:48I just think it's really important for myself and members of my community to be able to
00:56understand what their rights are so that they're, they know that they can be supported
01:02and there can be advocacy for them to be able to age well with confidence in a supportive
01:13situation.
01:15Yes, in my 60s myself, I have dealt with dying a few times, so I already have a lot of my
01:23stuff already sorted out.
01:26I've confronted my own mortality numerous times, so I know dying is just a matter of
01:31not breathing back in again, so I'm quite comfortable with that.
01:36And I've lost several partners over that period of time, so for me it's, I've dealt with a
01:41lot of this stuff, a lot of other people haven't, and they will find it quite confronting for
01:46the first time.
01:48A document like this is really important because, you know, I think I know the resources that
01:54are available, but of course there's so many more out there, and it just updates my information
02:00and things, so it's invaluable.
