Transcript
00:00So obviously when you first go into care, you never straight away think of it as a positive experience.
00:06I didn't really understand what was going on.
00:09So no, I hated it at first, the truth being told.
00:13But as I got older, I realised the support that you can get.
00:17And once I moved in with my auntie, I feel like things just fell into place for me.
00:21But at first, totally negative.
00:24I think it's more because I didn't understand what was going on
00:26and I didn't know the reasons as to why I was being away from my mum in the first place.
00:30I mean, you could be being treated horribly and where it's just second nature to you,
00:34you don't really know, do you?
00:37But yeah, so at first, it was really, really negative.
00:40So definitely at school, as soon as they know, oh, she's been in care, she's a care child,
00:44I mean, they straight away just thought, oh, that's why she's being like that.
00:47That's why she's naughty. Oh, she's just going to be a naughty child.
00:50She's not really going to go anywhere in life.
00:52And so you sort of start to believe it.
00:54I was considered probably an angry child.
00:57Didn't want to engage nothing.
00:59I mean, and that was lovely. They'd really tried, do you know what I mean?
01:02It wasn't like it was a horrible home or anything like that.
01:04It really wasn't.
01:05And things like they'd do fish and chip Friday and I didn't want to sit at the table
01:09because I was never used to it.
01:10I was used to just being able to sort of eat where I want, do what I want.
01:13And they're like, right, come and sit at the table.
01:14And I'm like, I don't want to sit at the table.
01:16So I'd rather not eat. I'd choose not to eat.
01:18So I made it really difficult for myself just because, again,
01:21understanding now because I was traumatised as a child, stuff I'd gone through.
01:51And so that's what I did.
01:52And I think that's really important.
01:53I think that's really important.
01:54I think that's really important.
