Jay Slater update from Lancashire Post reporter Sam Quine - live in Jay's hometown of Oswaldtwistle

Jay Slater, 19, from Oswaldtwistle, was last heard from on Monday morning as he told a friend he planned to walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus, a journey expected to take around 11 hours on foot.

His friend Lucy – who had gone to the island with him to attend the NRG music festival – said that MJay had gone to stay with people he had met on holiday after a night out.

She said she had received a call from Jay at around 8.15am on Monday after he missed the bus and was trying to walk back although he had said he was lost, needed a drink of water and had only 1% battery on his phone.

Jay’s phone then cut off, with his last location showing as the Rural de Teno park – a mountainous area popular with hikers.

00:00Hello, my name is Sam Quine, East Lancashire Reporter for the Lancashire Post, and I am
00:09here in Osselts Whistle, as the search for 19-year-old Jay Slater enters its ninth day.
00:14The 19-year-old, who had gone on holiday to Tenerife to attend the NRG Music Festival,
00:20was last heard from on Monday morning last week. This was after he had contacted his
00:25friend Lucy at around 8.15am to say that he was lost, in need of water and was walking
00:32back to accommodation after missing the last bus. On the call he also explained how his
00:37phone was at 1% and this is when his phone then cut off and his last location is showing
00:43as the Rural De Tenno Park, which is a mountainous hiking area which is popular with locals.
00:51Now as the search has entered its second week, a huge group of friends and family from
00:55Osselts Whistle have gone to Tenerife to aid the search including Jay's mum, Debbie Duncan.
01:03Lucy Law, Jay's friend who he attended the island with, has set up a GoFundMe page with
01:08the aim of getting Jay home safely. This has since received over £33,000 in donations.
01:16The people of Osselts Whistle have sent messages of support to Jay and his family and tied
01:21blue ribbons to show their support throughout the town, as you can see behind me.
01:27Over the weekend it was reported that the search teams have narrowed their efforts to
01:31small buildings close to where his phone last pinged. A number of people have offered support
01:37to Jay's family including Mark Williams-Thomas, who was a private investigator who was involved
01:43and helped with the search for Nicola Bully. He has since reached out to the family and
01:48has said that if he is given total access he will be able to determine if his disappearance
01:55was Jay alone or had third party involvement. The latest update from the case is that there
02:01has been no official police response to reports of a possible sighting of Jay outside a church
02:06in Santiago de Teda at around 6pm last Monday. Debbie Duncan said a witness had gone to police
02:14claiming to have seen him looking worse for wear and sitting on a bench with two men.
02:20The sighting was believed to have been just over three miles away from the village of
02:25Masca where the teenager was known to have spent some time in an AirBnB.
