00:00:00It's just another walk in the park x4
00:00:21Yeah, yeah, yeah
00:00:31Morning, Rosemary
00:00:33Good morning, Jonathan
00:00:34What do you got for me?
00:00:35Well, Keller called, also Bell's attorney
00:00:39Uh, Mr. Shuster wants to set a lunch this week, I set it for Thursday
00:00:43And, uh, your chiropractor called back, you have an appointment tomorrow
00:00:47What would I do without you?
00:00:48Probably wouldn't have a partner, it's Shuster, Barron, and Clyde
00:00:51Hey!
00:01:03Hey!
00:01:04Oh, I love you, I'm swamped today
00:01:07I already have four appointments, I still have to do payroll, and come up with next week's schedule
00:01:11Oh, that's what best friends are for
00:01:13You just remember that when you fill out those checks
00:01:15You know, Lib, if you finally finish those classes, I could actually pay you as a massage therapist
00:01:19And not just a receptionist, come on, you were so good at that four years ago
00:01:24I've got my hands full, I mean, after this I'm DJing at Sunset, then I have a catering gig
00:01:29God, I don't know how you do it, you have a different schedule every week, every day
00:01:33Life is a journey, Tessa, I like to just enjoy the ride
00:01:40Ah, look at this, college roommates nuptials, three weeks away
00:01:44You know, actually, Rosemary, I can't make it to that
00:01:47Really? Well, I figured, so I sent you regrets and a blender, very fancy, all-pump
00:01:51Nice
00:01:52Jonathan, if you never see anything outside of the four walls of this office, how are you ever going to fall in love?
00:01:58Give me this
00:01:59Rosemary, true love, whatever that is, is for fairy tales and animated movies
00:02:04Oh, that is so not true
00:02:06But you will be happy to know I actually do have a blind date
00:02:09Who are you allowing to play matchmaker other than me?
00:02:12Nick
00:02:13Nick?
00:02:14People, you think Nick knows what you need in a relationship?
00:02:17He's with me here all day at the office, he knows how I tick, he's pretty much my best friend
00:02:20Yes, Rosie, I am indeed his best friend, and I do know what an up-and-coming attorney at law needs in a female companion
00:02:29Really? Well, who is this woman?
00:02:31Cynthia DuPont, she's a PR exec
00:02:33Cynthia DuPont is a 31-year-old executive VP, okay, she's gorgeous, she has her MBA, she's perfect
00:02:42How romantic
00:02:43Come on, Rosie, I mean, Jonathan's about to be made partner
00:02:47In just a few hours, he will be heralded by the powers that be of Schuster, Barron, and Clyde
00:02:52ushered into the inner circle of couples' dinners, country club memberships, and full-time nannies
00:02:58I mean, if he's going to play the part, he's got to have the right girl by his side
00:03:02And you're the man to help him find her?
00:03:04Yes
00:03:05I rest my case
00:03:06Thank you, Rosemary
00:03:09All right, everybody up, let's see some dancin'
00:03:24Oh, Donald, I think Lenore made it perfectly clear last week that she doesn't like it when you put your hand on her backside
00:03:29I'm reconsidering, I consider this place your sim
00:03:32Harry, can we may I have this dance?
00:03:35Oh, you're such an angel
00:03:38Oh, my God
00:03:49Hey, sir
00:03:50Hey, Don, how are you this evening?
00:03:51Well, thanks
00:03:52Good, thank you
00:03:53Thank you, all right, see you later
00:04:08Good evening, Mr. McIntyre
00:04:09Don, how are you?
00:04:10Just fine
00:04:11Congratulations on your promotion
00:04:12Thank you very much
00:04:13You're welcome
00:04:14Have a good evening
00:04:15You too
00:04:16Take care
00:04:17Good evening, sir
00:04:18I love you, but I really can't right now
00:04:22Good evening
00:04:23Good evening, ma'am
00:04:38Thank you
00:04:44Oh, hold the elevator, please
00:04:45Sorry
00:04:48Thank you
00:04:52Thank you so much
00:04:53No problem
00:04:54Thank you
00:05:07Are we...
00:05:08Stuck?
00:05:09Yeah
00:05:16Frank, the lobby power is out
00:05:19Again
00:05:21Yeah, it looks like the whole grid's down on a looser card
00:05:23Or it looks like we're gonna have to show some patience and wait it out
00:05:29I don't have any service here, do you?
00:05:31Oh, I don't have a cell phone
00:05:33What?
00:05:34People survive for centuries without them
00:05:40Oh, great
00:05:41Yeah, no dial tone
00:05:43Nothing
00:05:51Wow, it's a little claustrophobic in here
00:05:53Yeah, there's a little stuffy in here
00:05:57Well, it seems like we're gonna be here for a minute
00:05:59So maybe we should introduce ourselves
00:06:02Yeah, sorry, I'm Jonathan McIntyre
00:06:04Hi, Jonathan, I'm Liberty Taylor
00:06:06And most people just call me Liberty
00:06:08Or Libby, I mean
00:06:10Sorry
00:06:11Liberty, that's a unique name
00:06:13Yeah, my mom thought it would be a good way to remind me throughout my life
00:06:16That I could be and do whatever I want
00:06:18Anything's possible, you know, that kind of thing
00:06:20That's a good message from my mom
00:06:22Yeah, I think so
00:06:23Well, I mean, you'd make a great defense attorney
00:06:26Your name alone would inspire a lot of hope in your clients
00:06:28Oh, is that what you do?
00:06:30Uh, yeah, attorney, yes
00:06:32But defense, no
00:06:36I mainly do corporate law, mergers and acquisitions
00:06:41Basically, if somebody wants to buy something or sell something or merge a company
00:06:46I'm the guy who makes sure they're doing everything by the books
00:06:49Oh, that sounds really interesting
00:06:53Does it?
00:06:56You don't really think so, it's okay
00:06:58I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, I just
00:07:00No, no, don't apologize, it's fine
00:07:02It's refreshing, actually
00:07:05I'm used to people telling me what I want to hear
00:07:07Or what they think I want to hear, anyway
00:07:09Your honesty is a nice change of pace
00:07:12Well, okay, in that case then
00:07:14Your job pretty much sounds like a cure for insomnia
00:07:20Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you'll be patient just a little bit longer
00:07:23We are so sorry for the inconvenience
00:07:26Our valets are happy to carry luggage
00:07:28If anyone would care to take the stairs up to your rooms?
00:07:35Drink
00:07:39So did you always want to be a lawyer?
00:07:41No, actually
00:07:44Growing up, I wanted to be a race car driver
00:07:47But of course, that wasn't a very practical goal for the man of the house
00:07:50So I reconsidered
00:07:52Oh, you're married?
00:07:53Me? No, oh, no
00:07:55No, when I said man of the house, I meant when I was a kid
00:08:00Oh, right
00:08:01My father passed away when I was young
00:08:03And my mother raised me by herself, so
00:08:05I'm sorry
00:08:06Wow, that is a lot of responsibility for a little kid
00:08:10I, uh, school was always really easy for me
00:08:13And when I realized
00:08:15Not only could I get the jobs and scholarships I wanted
00:08:20But that I had to, you know, to help out my mother
00:08:22And I'm sorry
00:08:24I'd never talk about myself like this
00:08:27I'm rambling
00:08:28No, no, you're sharing about your life
00:08:31And it's interesting
00:08:33So what about you?
00:08:34I was raised by a single mom, too
00:08:36My parents split up when I was little
00:08:39I wasn't that into school, though
00:08:41Not like you, I was more into the extracurriculars
00:08:44Oh, such as?
00:08:45Well, I, um, I took all kinds of dance
00:08:48I did a semester of ultimate frisbee
00:08:51I had a failed attempt on the soccer team
00:08:53And I finally realized I really wasn't that athletic
00:08:56So I moved on to music, where I played the flute, I played the sax
00:08:59I took all kinds of art classes
00:09:01Wow, you must be really creative
00:09:04I don't know, I mean, I like to think so, yeah
00:09:07But I'm sure you are, too
00:09:08I mean, your job just takes a different kind of creativity
00:09:12I'm sure there's an artist in there somewhere
00:09:14Just dying to come out
00:09:16That's a good philosophy
00:09:18What about you, though?
00:09:19Are you, um, what's your next creative outlet?
00:09:22Well, honestly, I'm eight credits away from finishing culinary school
00:09:26And if I would just go and finish
00:09:28I don't know, I feel like I never have time
00:09:30Wow, that's great, though
00:09:32I mean, I can't cook a thing
00:09:33I mean, when I'm working, I eat out
00:09:36When I'm home, I microwave all my food, so
00:09:38Oh, that's terrible, cooking is fun
00:09:40I don't know, I don't know
00:09:42I mean, I can mess up toast
00:09:54Shouldn't be too much water, right? I mean
00:09:56Oh, your tie is a mess
00:09:59Sorry
00:10:01Do you want me to fix it?
00:10:02Yes, yeah, thank you
00:10:06Here
00:10:14There
00:10:16You're perfect
00:10:18Well, I don't know if I'd say perfect
00:10:20I mean, I still can't cook, right?
00:10:22Right
00:10:25Yeah, of course, if I'm gonna learn how to cook
00:10:28I mean, I'd probably need someone to teach me
00:10:31Do you know anyone that could do that, or?
00:10:34Maybe
00:10:35Yeah?
00:10:36I'll have to think about that
00:10:44I'm sorry
00:10:45Oh, I'm sorry
00:10:51Wow
00:10:59So this was, uh, this was fun, actually
00:11:02Being trapped in an elevator with you
00:11:03Yeah, it was
00:11:04We should do it again, sometime
00:11:06I mean, without the elevator, of course
00:11:07Right, of course
00:11:09Maybe a cooking lesson
00:11:10Yeah, a cooking lesson, that would be nice
00:11:14All right, well, um, I'll see you around
00:11:17Okay, bye
00:11:25Jonathan
00:11:26Alan
00:11:27Made it, how are you? Let's get you a drink
00:11:28Yeah
00:11:29Everything going okay?
00:11:30Yeah, fine, thank you
00:11:32We're here tonight to talk about a young man
00:11:34Who I am very excited about
00:11:36And feel just privileged to have
00:11:39In the four walls of our organization
00:11:41This young man has made his ascent in this firm
00:11:44Seem practically effortless
00:11:46With the exception of tonight
00:11:48When he was harshly overruled
00:11:50By a powerless elevator
00:11:51As he was trying to come up to the dinner
00:11:54So I welcome him as a new partner
00:11:57I thank all of you for coming tonight
00:11:59I hope you will enjoy yourselves
00:12:01And without me standing here
00:12:03And pumping your head any bigger than it already is
00:12:05So that you'll ask for more money
00:12:07I give you, ladies and gentlemen, Jonathan McIntyre
00:12:14Thank you, thank you Alan
00:12:18Okay, before we start to eat
00:12:20I'd like to say a few things
00:12:22I'd like to thank the founding partners
00:12:25For welcoming me as an equal to the firm
00:12:27That they helped build from the ground up
00:12:30Now all your names are at the top of the letterhead
00:12:32I know that, I won't forget that anytime soon
00:12:36But I will now, as a partner
00:12:38Continue to represent Schuster, Barron and Clyde
00:12:40The individuals and the firm
00:12:42To the best of my abilities
00:12:43Alan, Richard, Grace
00:12:45Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity
00:12:47This wonderful dinner
00:12:48Thank you all for being here
00:12:50And sharing this with me, it means a lot to me
00:12:52I look forward to working many years with all of you here
00:12:54Thank you
00:12:56Yeah!
00:12:58Can everyone stand and let's have a salute
00:13:00Cheers
00:13:03Cheers!
00:13:04Cheers!
00:13:05Cheers!
00:13:06Cheers!
00:13:07Cheers!
00:13:08Cheers!
00:13:24Little bird, singing outside
00:13:29Don't you know, in the middle of the night
00:13:37I think you're just confused
00:13:42By the light, by the night
00:13:51There's a man, standing outside
00:13:57Looking into a window, into a bride
00:14:04So congratulations on making partner
00:14:06It's very impressive for someone so young
00:14:09Well, I'm no wonderkind, but just a workaholic
00:14:12Yeah, well I know what that's like
00:14:15That's right, Nick said you're an executive at your firm
00:14:18Yeah, started out as account supervisor
00:14:20And I work my way up
00:14:22Are you like me?
00:14:23I'll work, not enough play
00:14:26Yes, I know exactly what you mean
00:14:29Yeah
00:14:30You know, people like us, we're achievers
00:14:33Yeah, I mean, Princeton, Cornell, Summa, Cum Laude, both
00:14:37You?
00:14:38Yale, Stanford
00:14:39Just Yale and Stanford?
00:14:41I bet you were at the top of your class, right?
00:14:43Breaking in the scholarships?
00:14:45Law review
00:14:47I knew it
00:14:48Yeah, and now that we've both achieved so much
00:14:50It's like we're supposed to go out and get the rest of it
00:14:52You know, marriage, kids, dog running around the backyard
00:14:55But I don't know who has the time for it
00:14:57Well, I certainly don't
00:14:59I mean, the only woman I talk to on a daily basis is my secretary
00:15:02And she's old enough to be my mom
00:15:04Well, I'm probably a traitor to my gender
00:15:07But I never really believed in all the fairytale romance stuff they fed us as kids
00:15:11That's funny, I was just talking about that the other day
00:15:14Yeah, right, I mean, we both worked hard to get into the right schools
00:15:17To get the right degree, the right job, you know, the right house and cars and all that
00:15:22I mean, you know, I think a relationship should be approached the same way
00:15:25You meet the right person and you work at it
00:15:28Yeah, a relationship is a partnership as well
00:15:31And really, when was the last time you met someone and felt some immediate lightning bolt connection?
00:15:38So, what's up?
00:15:40I met a guy
00:15:42What?
00:15:43We got stuck in the elevator on the way to the catering event
00:15:45The power went out
00:15:46Okay, tell, tell
00:15:47That's the thing, I don't know
00:15:48He was so, like, sweet and charming in the elevator
00:15:52And then he just totally ignored me at the dinner
00:15:54He was really rude
00:15:55Okay, wait, wait, so he was at the dinner where you were serving?
00:15:58Yeah, he was the guest of honor
00:15:59He was my partner in his law firm
00:16:01Libby, that's it
00:16:02He's got a snooty job
00:16:03They don't talk to the help, you know
00:16:05At least not in front of their snooty friends
00:16:07I don't know, I mean, yes, he was definitely a buttoned-up kind of guy
00:16:10But there was something about him
00:16:13He was sweet
00:16:15I don't know, Lib
00:16:17It's no coincidence that you were put on that elevator
00:16:19And it's no coincidence that it got stuck
00:16:21There is a reason
00:16:23And what reason is that?
00:16:24I don't know
00:16:25That's so helpful, thank you
00:16:27Okay, all right, um, maybe you were put on that elevator with that guy that night
00:16:34To learn a little something about yourself
00:16:36Or maybe the lesson wasn't yours to learn
00:16:39What do you mean?
00:16:40Who knows?
00:16:41Maybe Grumpy McGrumperton went home that night
00:16:44And learned a little something about his rude behavior
00:16:47From your shiny example
00:16:58How was your date?
00:16:59Cynthia, she's nice, I like her
00:17:02She's attractive
00:17:03And you were right, we had a lot in common
00:17:05So you weren't blown away
00:17:08All right, but take her out on a second date
00:17:10Like a real date
00:17:11You know, you go to dinner, take her to the movies
00:17:13It's not like there's anyone else you're interested in
00:17:17Is there someone else you're interested in?
00:17:19Dude, do not hold out on me
00:17:21I might have met someone at the partnership dinner
00:17:24Her name is Libby
00:17:25There were no single chicks at your partnership dinner
00:17:27No, actually, we got stuck in the elevator together on the way up
00:17:31So did you ask her out?
00:17:32Uh, no, not exactly
00:17:34She's a culinary student, so
00:17:36I don't know, I might have asked for a cooking lesson
00:17:40Smooth, nice
00:17:42When we got off, it turns out she was a
00:17:45A waitress for the dinner
00:17:49Jonathan, buddy
00:17:52Come on, forget about elevator girl, okay?
00:17:55Because you just became partner
00:17:58At one of the largest law firms on the west coast
00:18:02You're not dating a waitress
00:18:05Your bosses are your peers now, man
00:18:07I mean, you gotta be socializing with them
00:18:09And with the right kind of girl on your arm
00:18:12You know what you should do?
00:18:14You should host your own dinner party
00:18:16I mean, you're one of them now, man
00:18:18Huh?
00:18:21Yeah, I guess
00:18:22Rosie, Jonathan's gonna host a little dinner thing
00:18:27At his place
00:18:29You know what?
00:18:30You should invite Cynthia, make it a second date
00:18:32I'll bring Catherine
00:18:33Yeah, okay, buddy, good idea
00:18:35All right, well, I will leave you to it
00:18:38Thank you
00:18:42Bye
00:18:46I assume you'll need a caterer
00:18:49Yes
00:18:50Jonathan, I couldn't help it over here
00:18:52Are you sure you wanna ask this Cynthia woman?
00:18:54I mean, it sounds to me like you hit it off with someone else
00:18:56Well, I mean, I should see Cynthia again
00:18:59And besides, the other woman
00:19:01I, uh, I screwed that up
00:19:03You know, I was just
00:19:04I was so surprised that she was actually working at the dinner
00:19:07You know, I
00:19:09You know, I just felt weird talking to her
00:19:11I was kind of rude
00:19:13Anyways, it wasn't meant to be, right?
00:19:15Oh, I don't know, I think
00:19:17If it's meant to be, you might see her again
00:19:20Perhaps
00:19:22Don't you worry about a thing
00:19:24I'll take care of everything
00:19:26Thank you
00:19:31You are never gonna believe this
00:19:33Guess what?
00:19:34I got a catering gig, as the cook
00:19:36Wow!
00:19:37I didn't know you were gonna start a catering company
00:19:39I wasn't, but this woman called
00:19:41And she said she got my name from the hotel
00:19:43Oh, well, in that case

00:30:22Is that okay? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I would like that.
00:30:26Well, uh, why don't we start right now?
00:30:28Let's go grab a glass of wine and celebrate this amazing dinner you put on.
00:30:35Great. Okay.
00:30:39Good morning, Rosemary. Good morning, Jonathan.
00:31:00Well, um, I don't know how you did it, but you got me a second shot with Libby.
00:31:07Turns out she was the caterer. Oh, really?
00:31:11Yes. Isn't that wonderful?
00:31:13Yeah. Well, it's a small world, isn't it?
00:31:16Yeah, it is a small world, isn't it?
00:31:19We actually have a date Friday.
00:31:21Do you really? Well, that is wonderful. I am so happy to hear that.
00:31:26Where are you two going for your date?
00:31:28Uh, well, she loves to cook, so I was thinking maybe, you know, a nice restaurant.
00:31:32Oh, nice restaurants. Well, I know.
00:31:36You should go to the Beverly Glen Hotel restaurant.
00:31:39Yeah, that's a good idea. That's where we met.
00:31:43It's beautiful.
00:31:50Hey, I like that. What about you? Who do you get?
00:31:53Jonathan. Hi.
00:31:55Oh, Cynthia. Catherine, how are you? Good, thanks.
00:31:57Lovely dinner the other night. Oh, thank you.
00:32:00Your caterer was terrific.
00:32:02Yes, she was. Is. Is.
00:32:05Maybe we should have a drink tonight.
00:32:09Cynthia, I...
00:32:15No, I get it. It's okay.
00:32:18Um, I'm actually late for a meeting. I better get up there.
00:32:21But I'll see you around, okay? Yep. Bye.
00:32:26Wow. Public blow-off?
00:32:30Sweetie. You will never believe what just happened.
00:32:33Jonathan blew off Cynthia in the lobby.
00:32:36Ahem. Catherine said you blew off Cynthia.
00:32:40What's that about? First of all, I did not blow her off.
00:32:43Okay, she understood. You're the one that's upset.
00:32:45Secondly, Nick, what is there to break up? We went on one date.
00:32:48Technically, it was two. Yeah. Point taken.
00:32:51You are being a sore loser. I guess someone else was a better matchmaker than you.
00:32:57Who? Jonathan. Jonathan chose for himself.
00:33:01Who'd you choose? I am going on a date with Libby.
00:33:07The elevator girl? You chose the elevator girl over Cynthia DuPont.
00:33:13Mm-hmm.
00:33:17Wow.
00:33:19Jonathan. Oh, yeah.
00:33:23Oh, yeah. Very nice, Rosemary.
00:33:27Oh, I like this one. What do you think? Oh, very sharp.
00:33:30You could wear one of these on your date with Libby. Yeah?
00:33:33Well, I hope she turns out to be everything you want because you deserve that.
00:33:37You deserve something good in your life.
00:33:40Rosemary, I have a lot of good things in my life. Pay you included.
00:33:44But everything good in your life you've had to work for.
00:33:47Be nice if somebody was just there for you. And besides me, of course.
00:33:52I would like that.
00:33:55But I like the work. I always have.
00:33:58I don't know. Sometimes I just think that's what my life is about.
00:34:02Jonathan, I know it feels that way now, but you are going to see there are so many things in life besides work.
00:34:17Wow, this is beautiful. Well, wait till you see what we got planned.
00:34:22Thank you. Enjoy.
00:34:26Ready?
00:34:30This fruit is delicious.
00:34:32Well, I thought you'd like it.
00:34:36So have you always lived here?
00:34:38No. I grew up on the East Coast, actually.
00:34:41I studied law. Went to a very preppy school there.
00:34:44Really? Yeah. My mom thought it would be a good opportunity for me.
00:34:49Of course, she didn't have to wear the blazer and tie to school every day.
00:34:52But, you know, she was right. In the end, it served me well.
00:34:55What about you? Did you grow up here or go to college here?
00:34:59No, I didn't do the college thing. I kind of took more of the life experience route.
00:35:04I traveled a lot. I went to Europe. I took a sculpting class in Italy.
00:35:09I worked at a pizzeria there and I learned how to toss the dough.
00:35:12Yeah. I worked at a farm in the south of France. I learned how to make goat cheese.
00:35:18Goat cheese. I love goat cheese. Yeah, me too.
00:35:21I sketched the rooftops in Santorini. I lived on the beach in Australia.
00:35:25Waited tables there at the beach and learned how to surf.
00:35:28Then I kind of finished it all up with an actual vacation in Hawaii.
00:35:31And then I came home. That's amazing. Wow.
00:35:34What do you do after a world tour like that?
00:35:36I went to massage school.
00:35:38That makes sense. Cheese, surfing, painting, massage school.
00:35:43And now you're back to finish culinary school. Yes.
00:35:46Hopefully I will graduate and get a job.
00:35:49If I can figure out what they put in the sauce, I'm pretty sure it will all be worth it.
00:35:54Well, it's a new adventure. Cheers.
00:35:58Cheers.
00:36:04So, you know, being a race car driver wasn't looked on by my mother as being very practical.
00:36:09She wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer. I chose the latter.
00:36:14And, you know, fortunately, I passed the bar before she died.
00:36:19I'm sure she was very proud.
00:36:23So what about you?
00:36:25I moved around a lot when I was a kid, so that made a new school every year or two.
00:36:30I became very good at making friends. I mean, I can talk to anybody.
00:36:33Yeah, that's obvious. You're very good at it.
00:36:36Are you saying I'm talking your ear off?
00:36:38No, no, no. I'm just saying, you know, as a lawyer, I'm used to listening.
00:36:43And you make this easy.
00:36:48I'm very happy to hear that.
00:36:52So with all the moving around and starting over, you got pretty close to your parents, huh?
00:36:57With my mom, yeah. Yeah.
00:36:59My dad split when I was three, and he traveled a ton.
00:37:03He was a trucker. He worked in an oil rig off the Gulf of Mexico.
00:37:07He led hiking expeditions in Alaska and the Grand Canyon.
00:37:10Wow. I mean, that must have been hard, though, not having him around.
00:37:14No, no. I mean, he always wrote me postcards from his travels.
00:37:18He was an adventurer. He's one of my big inspirations.
00:37:22Really? Yeah.
00:37:25Well, I hope the restaurant wasn't too stuffy for you.
00:37:27Oh, no, it was perfect. I loved it.
00:37:30Well, good.
00:37:34So does that mean you'd consider going out with me again?
00:37:38I definitely mean that.
00:37:40Definitely. I like that.
00:37:42Okay, well, how about this? Why don't you pick where we go on our second date?
00:37:45Oh, I can do that.
00:37:47Well, thank you again.
00:37:49Yeah. Good night.
00:37:51Good night.
00:37:59Honey.
00:38:01See ya.
00:38:16Wait. He took you there?
00:38:19Yeah.
00:38:21Liv, the rooms at that place are over $500 a night.
00:38:24Oh, come on.
00:38:25That meal had cost.
00:38:26I know, but that's not the point.
00:38:27Tessa, he took me there because he thought I would like it, and I loved it.
00:38:29Okay, it's just that usually you hate those kinds of places.
00:38:33You're always saying that you pay more for the ambiance than you do for the food.
00:38:36Oh, well, the food was delicious. I had the best time.
00:38:39Okay.
00:38:40Okay?
00:38:41Okay.
00:38:42Okay.
00:38:43Look, I know this isn't normally the kind of guy that I would be interested in, but
00:38:47there's just something about him.
00:38:49I really wish you could just be happy for me.
00:38:51I am happy for you.
00:38:52Really?
00:38:55I will be.
00:38:57Thanks.
00:38:59Now fix your sheets.
00:39:01We need to get the details for the bell offer done by no later than tomorrow, and I'm slammed.
00:39:05Can you finish it?
00:39:06Yeah, yeah, sure.
00:39:08So, your little date.
00:39:09You took her to Beverly Glen?
00:39:11Seemed perfect.
00:39:13And was it?
00:39:14Yeah, we had a nice dinner.
00:39:16Walked her on the grounds a little bit.
00:39:17She's easy to talk to.
00:39:20I just hope no one saw you with her.
00:39:22Nick, I like this girl, okay?
00:39:24Get the bell stuff done.
00:39:27Okay.
00:39:40Hi.
00:39:41Are you Rosemary Cole?
00:39:43Yes, I am.
00:39:44Hi, I'm Libby Taylor.
00:39:46You are Libby Taylor, huh?
00:39:49Yes.
00:39:50Very nice to meet you.
00:39:51Nice to meet you as well.
00:39:52Oh, you just missed Jonathan.
00:39:53He just ran out.
00:39:54Oh, no, actually, I was counting on that.
00:39:56I didn't want to freak him out by showing up at his office, you know, after our first date.
00:39:59But I did want to tell you thank you.
00:40:01Thank you so much for giving me my first catering gig, and I don't know if you realized it, but it also gave me a second chance with Jonathan.
00:40:07Really?
00:40:08So, um, I brought you lunch.
00:40:10Oh, my goodness.
00:40:12You have to be the sweetest person on the earth.
00:40:14Oh, it's nothing.
00:40:17Oh, wow.
00:40:18Okay, uh, I haven't ridden a bike since junior high.
00:40:20You are kidding me.
00:40:21I'm terrible.
00:40:22It's so fun.
00:40:23You're going to love it.
00:40:24And it's great exercise.
00:40:25I mean, what could be better?
00:40:26Uh, you sure?

00:54:03Hi.
00:54:11Jonathan? You all right?
00:54:16I don't know.
00:54:23Remember when you told me that you have to pay attention to certain people who enter your life?
00:54:27Sure I do.
00:54:28How do you know if that person is the right person?
00:54:31What's the best thing to do is let them go. And how can you tell the difference?
00:54:35Those are all good questions.
00:54:39Is everything okay with you and Libby?
00:54:41I don't know. I just... I lead a very structured life.
00:54:45And Libby is the exact opposite. I'm not used to that.
00:54:49That can be a good thing. You can learn from each other.
00:54:53And Jonathan, you know the answer to a good relationship is compromise.
00:55:00It's just... it's confusing, you know?
00:55:02You are the one that solves problems for a living.
00:55:08Well, a million dollar merger seems like a child's play compared to this.
00:55:20I better get going. I have an early meeting in the morning.
00:55:24All right.
00:55:28Sorry.
00:55:29Oh, hey, I keep forgetting to ask you.
00:55:31Marty and Tessa have two extra tickets to the Dodger game tomorrow night.
00:55:34Do you want to go?
00:55:35I can't. I have dinner with clients tomorrow.
00:55:38What about the next night?
00:55:40No, I got a catering gig. How about the next night?
00:55:44Let me see. Let me see.
00:55:49No. Actually, I met with Nick that evening.
00:55:51What about this weekend?
00:55:52Well, Friday night I'm deejaying a Sweet Sixteen.
00:55:55And then Saturday I'm caterwaitering at a wedding.
00:55:57And then Sunday is fall.
00:56:00I mean, don't you ever want to pick one job and stick with it?
00:56:04No. I mean, why should we have to pick one thing?
00:56:07One thing can be so boring.
00:56:09I know. I just, I worry about you. You know?
00:56:12It's like if life was an ocean.
00:56:15I mean, most of us are constantly swimming towards something.
00:56:18You know, some goal or a plan.
00:56:20And, I don't know, you just kind of let the current drag you around.
00:56:23Just because I don't have everything planned out like you do,
00:56:27I mean, that doesn't mean I'm being just dragged around.
00:56:34Everyone is afraid to fail.
00:56:37Okay, but you're never going to succeed unless you fully commit to something.
00:56:41I mean, I know you feel like you're probably protecting yourself,
00:56:43but you're really just missing out.
00:56:45That's just your opinion. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.
00:56:48I mean, you spend all this time planning everything.
00:56:51You don't even end up living anything.
00:56:53All right, I don't want to argue.
00:56:54No, we're not arguing.
00:56:55Okay.
00:56:56I don't want to argue.
00:56:57I just, I want you to be happy. That's all.
00:56:59I am happy. I mean, aren't you happy?
00:57:01Of course. Yes.
00:57:02Okay, so then, let's just be happy.
00:57:05Okay?
00:57:06Okay.
00:57:08Oh, and make sure we have lunch together.
00:57:10Okay.
00:57:13I'll see you.
00:57:14Okay.
00:57:15Bye.
00:57:24Hey.
00:57:25Hey.
00:57:26Is Jonathan ready for lunch?
00:57:27Oh, he's not back yet, Libby.
00:57:29Oh.
00:57:30Okay, get this to Richard upstairs ASAP, all right?
00:57:33Can you get O'Donnell on the line, please?
00:57:41Hey.
00:57:42Are we still going to lunch?
00:57:43Libby, I can't.
00:57:44All right, something came up.
00:57:45I'm sorry.
00:57:46Weren't you just saying there's more to life than work?
00:57:48I mean, there's nothing so important.
00:57:50You can't wait an hour so you can get something to eat.
00:57:52Actually, that's not true, all right?
00:57:54This entire deal could fall through within the hour it takes me to go to lunch with you.
00:57:57My job is very important to me, Libby.
00:57:58Please try to understand that.
00:57:59Rosemary, do you have him?
00:58:00Line two.
00:58:01Thank you.
00:58:02Hello?
00:58:03Yes, Mr. O'Donnell.
00:58:04Yes, yes.
00:58:05I got the contract right in front of me, sir.
00:58:06I know these aren't the numbers we agreed on.
00:58:08I know.
00:58:09I'm not happy about it either.
00:58:10But I talked to his assistant, and I don't know what happened.
00:58:13But I'm going to fix it for you, sir.
00:58:14I'm on it.
00:58:15Don't worry.
00:58:16You have nothing to worry about.
00:58:17Thank you, sir.
00:58:30Rosemary.
00:58:32Did Libby call?
00:58:40Okay.
00:58:57I'm sorry.
00:59:00What are you doing right now?
00:59:05Spending time with you.
00:59:11Thanks.
00:59:15Where are we going?
00:59:16You'll see.
00:59:17Surprise.
00:59:20Oh, there's Jake's.
00:59:21They have the best burger in town.
00:59:23Want to go?
00:59:24Yeah.
00:59:29Wow.
00:59:30Good?
00:59:31Yeah.
00:59:32We didn't know it when we left on our adventure today,
00:59:34but apparently we were on the hunt to find the world's greatest hamburger.
00:59:37Have some fries?
00:59:38Whoa, whoa.
00:59:39What are you doing?
00:59:40That's my fry, actually.
00:59:41Come on.
00:59:42Come on.
00:59:43Thank you.
00:59:44I can share.
00:59:45Okay.
01:00:00Oh.
01:00:01Oh.
01:00:02Oh.
01:00:03Oh.

01:00:29That's pretty bad.
01:00:30Yeah.
01:00:31Bye.
01:00:32Sorry.
01:00:33That's okay.
01:00:34Hello?
01:00:35Johnathan.
01:00:36Where are you?
01:00:37You missed the conference call.
01:00:38What?
01:00:39I had to tell Mr. Schuster that you got food poisoning.
01:00:40I can't believe I did.
01:00:41I lost track of time.
01:00:42Went on a drive with Libby, we went to this town, and,
01:00:43What did I say?
01:00:44She is a distraction.
01:00:45Nick, stop, all right?
01:00:46Whatever.
01:00:47And don't let anyone at work see you eating seafood for a while.
01:00:49Yeah.
01:00:50What happened?
01:00:51I missed my five o'clock conference call.
01:00:53You made a conference call for today?
01:00:55Yes, I had to.
01:00:57It's for a client. Overseas. Come on, we got to go.
01:01:15Look, I'm sorry I yelled, all right? It's not your job to consider my work schedule.
01:01:19Well, I mean, no, it's not.
01:01:22When I'm with you, I lose track of time. I can't focus.
01:01:26Is that a bad thing?
01:01:27Well, it's not a good thing, Libby. Being with you, it's like you're taking me out of my world, okay?
01:01:31And in some ways, that's great. But in others, it's not.
01:01:35I just made partner at my firm, which means I got to pay more attention to my work.
01:01:39I mean, I made a huge mistake on another deal and now this.
01:01:42Well, maybe today is a sign that we should take a break.
01:01:47No, Libby, that's not what I'm saying.
01:01:49I just, I don't want to fight. I mean, it's just too hard.
01:01:51What's too hard? Libby, it's our first fight.
01:01:53You know what, though? No, this makes perfect sense, okay?
01:01:55Something gets challenging or difficult and you want to quit. That's a big surprise.
01:01:59Hey, that's not fair.
01:02:00It's completely fair. Libby, you quit everything you start.
01:02:02I do not.
01:02:03Look, I get that not everybody wants to be a corporate attorney, all right?
01:02:06I get that you're creative, but then finish something.
01:02:09One thing, all right? Massage school, culinary school, plan little kids' birthdays for a living.
01:02:14I don't care. Just pick one thing.
01:02:16You know what? Because you can't.
01:02:17Because everybody in your life is okay with you being this free spirit.
01:02:20You know, floating from one thing to the next.
01:02:22And that's great. That's great, Libby.
01:02:24But I thought you could be more than that.
01:02:26You know what? I was wrong. I was wrong.
01:02:28You're childish, all you want to do is have fun, and you never think about the future.
01:02:32The future.
01:02:33The future.
01:02:35You know what, Jonathan? All you do is think about the future.
01:02:37You are so concerned with what is coming next that you don't even, you don't even live your life.
01:02:42Life isn't about your perfectly tailored suits and your perfectly organized desk and your promotions.
01:02:47That's not life. Life is a mess.
01:02:48And that's how it should be.
01:02:52You know what thinking about the future has gotten you?
01:02:54It's gotten you this sad, sterile condo.
01:02:57Uptight and all alone.
01:03:22Is there any messages, Rosemary?
01:03:44Oh, yes.
01:03:45Um, I noticed Libby didn't call. Is everything okay?
01:03:48No, actually. We broke up.
01:03:51Oh, Jonathan.
01:03:53Just send her flowers. You know what? I know she likes Gerber daisies.
01:03:57Rosemary, let her go.
01:03:59All right?
01:04:00I did.
01:04:11I said just, just take it easy and you'll work it out, all right?
01:04:14No.
01:04:16I, I told them twice. I said twice.
01:04:19Just forget about it. We'll take care of it.
01:04:21Let me call you back. I'm at the office.
01:04:23Alan, I want to let you know I'm looking to take on some more responsibility here at work.
01:04:27So whatever you got, throw it at me.
01:04:30Well, I don't know if you've heard any of the rumblings, but we are expanding our international business.
01:04:34Was it going out of the London office?
01:04:35Tokyo.
01:04:36And I'm thinking about sending you.
01:04:38So give it some thought.
01:04:40But say yes. It's a great opportunity for you.
01:04:44Thank you, sir.
01:04:49Oh, man.
01:05:05Okay, great. We'll see you then. Thanks.
01:05:07Um, I just made a three o'clock massage appointment for you. Is that okay?
01:05:10Yeah. Marty can pick up Paige from school.
01:05:12All right.
01:05:14Rosemary.
01:05:15Hi.
01:05:16Hi. This is Rosemary, Jonathan's assistant. This is my best friend and boss, Tessa.
01:05:21Hi.
01:05:22She's the one I told you about.
01:05:23Oh, yes. Well, she tells me that you are the best at what you do.
01:05:26Thank you.
01:05:27Are you here for a massage?
01:05:29Oh, no, dear. I, uh, I'm actually here to see you.
01:05:36Oh.
01:05:38Well, Jonathan is just miserable.
01:05:42And he is being stubborn, and he won't call you, and...
01:05:45Well, I was hoping you would call him.
01:05:48I mean, I know you girls do that sort of thing now, right?
01:05:51Yeah, we do.
01:05:53Look, under other circumstances, normally I would...
01:05:56I'd have no problem calling him, but...
01:06:00Jonathan and I were really just not right for each other.
01:06:02Oh, no, Libby. You don't really think that, do you?
01:06:06Yeah, I do.
01:06:09But I will definitely see you again. That's a promise.
01:06:12I hope so.
01:06:14Okay. Well, bye, sweetie.
01:06:18Thanks.
01:06:24You okay?
01:06:25I guess.
01:06:26You did the right thing. It's time to just forget all that, really.
01:06:30Do you mean quit?
01:06:31Yeah. Well, okay, so your constant need to foodie actually comes in handy for once.
01:06:36That Rosemary seems like a really nice lady. She does.
01:06:39It's just that she can't see Jonathan for what he truly is, you know?
01:06:42A total corporate stooge.
01:06:44You could do so much better.
01:06:46He's not a corporate stooge, okay?
01:06:48He's not a rich jerk. He's not some snob.
01:06:51You don't have any idea who Jonathan is, because you never actually spent the time to get to know him.
01:06:54Libby.
01:06:55You know what? You think it's so great that I'm a quitter?
01:06:57Well, you would love this.
01:07:00I quit.
01:07:08Hey, John. We're all going out for a drink. Come on.
01:07:11Nick, I can't. I still got a lot of work to do.
01:07:14How about no, okay? Stop moping around.
01:07:18You, me, drink now. I'm buying.
01:07:21Black and white.
01:07:26Shades of grey into the night.
01:07:32I put pen to paper and I write.
01:07:39I'll sleep it off, I'll be alright.
01:07:45Crawling out.
01:07:51Rub my skin into the doubt.
01:07:58Silently scream and shout.
01:08:05Off toward the soldier's town.
01:08:15You have my respect.
01:08:19Well, I can't take your love.
01:08:23Oh, tell me how to end it all.
01:08:31And I'll be the first one to burn for you.
01:08:38This is my crime.
01:08:46Prisoner of war I am.
01:08:53I have learned about my time.
01:08:57Oh, let me in.
01:09:03You have my love.
01:09:06Well, I can't take your love.
01:09:10Oh, let me in.
01:09:13Jonathan McIntyre's office.
01:09:14Rosemary. Hi. Cynthia Dupont.
01:09:17Oh, yes, dear. Hold on.
01:09:19Jonathan, it's Cynthia and she...
01:09:24Cynthia, Jonathan is actually in a meeting with the partners.
01:09:28Sure, sure. Okay. Thanks.
01:09:31You're welcome.
01:09:32Bye.
01:09:33Goodbye, dear.
01:09:35All the noise, all the noise, all the noise I hear.
01:09:39I'll never even let it clear.
01:09:43It keeps me hanging on again.
01:09:47Hey, am I too old for this?
01:09:51Paige is too old for that.
01:09:54Okay, that's done. What do we got over here?
01:09:56Junk mail, junk mail, junk mail.
01:09:58A work scheduled from six months ago.
01:10:01And, um, seriously, Libby, this doesn't even have a picture in it.
01:10:05No, no, this one, this one's important.
01:10:12Catalogs.
01:10:14Tessa, I gotta tell you something.
01:10:16What?
01:10:18I've been really mad at you.
01:10:20Oh, Libby, hey, if this is about the whole quitting thing...
01:10:23No, it's not about the quitting thing.
01:10:25I still quit, by the way, just for the record.
01:10:28But, uh, I just felt like no matter what, you just didn't want Jonathan and I to be together.
01:10:33And as sad as I am that we haven't been able to work it out,
01:10:37I just realized that we're never going to unless I make some changes in my life.
01:10:41I know that's all you were trying to get me to see, so...
01:10:44I just wanted to say thanks.
01:10:49Hey, by the way, guess what?
01:10:52What?
01:10:54The Keller-Bell merger? Done.
01:10:56Jonathan, congratulations.
01:10:58Thank you very much. And I want to host a party.
01:11:00Take care of it? I'm going to meet Nick for drinks.
01:11:03I will take care of everything.
01:11:08All right, that's pretty great.
01:11:11Rosemary, we have to talk.
01:11:17Here we go.
01:11:19Here we go. Okay.
01:11:21How do I look?
01:11:23You look so handsome.
01:11:25I'm very proud of you.
01:11:29Thank you again, Rosemary, for everything.
01:11:33You better go.
01:11:37How are you?

01:12:40Be right back.
01:12:42Good to see you guys.
01:12:44I'll do a Jack and Coke, please.
01:12:52Libby.
01:12:54Hi.
01:12:56How are you?
01:12:58I'm great, thank you.
01:13:00What are you doing here?
01:13:02I'm looking for jobs.
01:13:04I had a lot of contacts with florists and caterers and photographers,
01:13:07so I started my own event planning company.
01:13:10Wow, that's... that's great.
01:13:13Thanks. I love it.
01:13:15Makes me really happy to be with people when they're celebrating something special.
01:13:18If you'll excuse me, nice to see you.
01:13:21Yeah, nice to see you.
01:13:26Thanks.
01:13:28Jonathan, how are you doing?
01:13:31Good, um...
01:13:33Marilyn, I know this isn't the best time to say this,
01:13:36but I'm gonna have to turn down your Tokyo offer.
01:13:38Really?
01:13:40I'm surprised. I thought you'd jump at the opportunity of heading up your own operation.
01:13:44Oh, sir, this... this means so much to me,
01:13:46and I thank you so much for even giving me this opportunity,
01:13:49but, um, I just...
01:13:51I have some business I need to take care of here first, if that's okay.
01:13:55Of course.
01:13:57You know, you're invaluable to us.
01:13:59Jonathan, you have to go after the things you want in life.
01:14:02Yeah, I know that now.
01:14:04Okay, I'm back.
01:14:06Shall we eat? I'm starving.
01:14:08But you'd never get past...
01:14:12By the way, you're paying for this, you know.
01:14:22Hi, um, James, will you get, um, Mr. Sweeney another drink?
01:14:25It's a scotch, right?
01:14:27Oh, yeah, scotch.
01:14:30Libby, great party.
01:14:32Thank you. Oh, and congratulations on the merger.
01:14:35Thanks.
01:14:39And you know the whole you and Jonathan thing?
01:14:42You guys should be together.
01:14:44I'm sorry it didn't work out,
01:14:46especially because I kinda had something to do with it.
01:14:49I kinda thought you were a flake.
01:14:51I told him to stop seeing you.
01:14:54I was wrong.
01:14:56Thank you, Nick.
01:15:04Libby, I just...
01:15:06I wanted to say that this is amazing.
01:15:09All of this is amazing.
01:15:11Thanks.
01:15:13Listen, I'm... I'm sorry I ambushed you.
01:15:16I mean, I knew you would be here.
01:15:18It's kinda the reason I took the job.
01:15:20I just really wanted you to see that I could be something.
01:15:23Libby, you've always been something.
01:15:39Hey, guys, good to see you.
01:15:41Thanks again for coming.

01:15:53Thank you for coming.
01:15:55Thank you for having me.
01:15:57It's pretty obvious that there's still something between you two.
01:16:03I shouldn't let her get away.
01:16:05Well, thank you.
01:16:08Sure.
01:16:10I'll see you.

01:16:22You're leaving?
01:16:24Yeah, yeah, I don't want to overstate my welcome.
01:16:26Impossible. The night is still young.
01:16:30Let's get out of here.
01:16:32I'll buy you a drink.
01:16:34I already have a drink.
01:16:37Shall we?
