03:14And all this week, he and Grandma are visiting my house.
03:17So today, he's picking me up after school.
03:20Can't wait to meet him.
03:21Well, Ben, it's lots of fun having a visit.
03:24Grandparents are some of my favorite people.
03:27Mine too.
03:28Barney?
03:29Yes?
03:30I'm confused.
03:31Oh?
03:32A grandpa, a grandfather, a granddad, an abuelo, a grandma, and I've got a nana.
03:40Those are all just special names for grandparents.
03:43And whatever you call them, it means they're your mom and dad's parents.
03:47Like maybe your mom's mother.
03:49My nana?
03:50Uh-huh, or maybe your dad's father.
03:52Like my abuelo.
03:53Right.
03:54Oh, now I understand.
03:56Good.
04:00You might call her grandma, or maybe even nana.
04:04Or you might call her mima too.
04:08But no matter what the name, she loves you just the same.
04:12Cause loving you is what she likes to do, do, do.
04:17No matter what the name, she loves you just the same.
04:21Cause loving you is what she likes to do.
04:27You might call him grandpa, or papa, or gramps.
04:30Or granddaddy sometimes too.
04:33But no matter what the name, he loves you just the same.
04:37Cause loving you is what he likes to do, do, do.
04:40No matter what the name, he loves you just the same.
04:43Cause loving you is what he likes to do.
04:46Maybe it's grandma and grandpa, or granny and gramps.
04:50Or nana and papa too.
04:53But no matter what the name, they love you just the same.
04:56Cause loving you is what they like to do, do, do.
05:00No matter what the name, they love you just the same.
05:03Cause loving you is what they like to do.
05:08That's right!
05:09Granddaddy, you're here!
05:10Hi!
05:11Granddaddy Richards, this is my friend Tina.
05:13Nice to meet you, Tina.
05:14Thank you.
05:15And this is Min.
05:16Hi, Min.
05:17Hello.
05:18And this is Cathy and Teddy.
05:20Nice to meet you, Cathy.
05:21Mr. Bear, a pleasure.
05:23And this is Barney.
05:24Well, hello, Barney.
05:27Nice to meet you, Barney.
05:29It's so nice to meet Derek's granddad.
05:32Derek was just telling us you're here for a visit.
05:34That's right.
05:35I thought I'd walk Derek home from school
05:37while his grandma's shopping at the grocery store.
05:39Then tonight, I'm going to be cooking dinner for the whole family.
05:42Oh!
05:43My granddad is a good cook.
05:45You are?
05:46Well, I like to have fun in the kitchen,
05:48just like you kids like to have fun in school.
05:50And I know that everyone has fun in school, right?
05:53That's right.
05:54So much fun.
05:55You know, it's been a long time since I've been inside a school.
05:57Ever since your daddy was my little boy.
05:59Well, how about taking a quick peek inside our school?
06:03Oh, I'd love that!
06:04Let's go!
06:05Let's go!
06:12This is the room where Teddy and I go to school.
06:14There's lots of different centers where we do different things.
06:17Centers?
06:18Oh, I see.
06:19For art and music and math.
06:21And for make-believe.
06:23There's a science center, too.
06:25And that would be your favorite.
06:27That's right.
06:28Science was my favorite when I went to school, too.
06:31Did you really used to be like us?
06:33Sure, once I was a little boy, just your size.
06:36And then a grown-up, and now I'm a granddad.
06:40And it's all just part of growing.
06:43And that's something you all know about.
07:03We grow a little taller, a little bigger, not smaller.
07:06And we grow a little friendlier, too.
07:09We try to be a little nicer as we grow.
07:12Each day because I'm growing.
07:14And so are you.
07:17Well, here we grow again.
07:21Growing, we do it every day.
07:24We're growing when we're sleeping.
07:26And even when we're playing.
07:28As we grow a little older, we can do more things.
07:31More things because I'm growing.
07:33And so are you.
07:35Each day we grow a little taller, a little bigger, not smaller.
07:39And we grow a little friendlier, too.
07:42We try to be a little nicer as we grow.
07:45Each day because I'm growing.
07:47And so are you.
07:50Because I'm growing.
07:51And so are you.
07:55That was stu-lu-lu-luminous.
07:58Oh, oh, oh.
07:59All of you know lots and lots about growing.
08:01You sure do.
08:03Say, I'll bet I could make everyone a yummy little snack right now.
08:08I told you he was a good cat.
08:10Oh, goody.
08:11What are you going to make?
08:13How about a nice batch of yummy spiders?
08:16Spiders?
08:17No, thank you.
08:18Real spiders?
08:19No, not real spiders.
08:21Cookies that look like spiders.
08:23And they're as much fun to make as they are to eat.
08:25But I'm going to need a few things.
08:27Oh, I think we can help you out right this way, Granddad.
08:30Good, let's get cooking.
08:31Here we go.
08:39There you are, Granddad.
08:40Everything you need.
08:41Thank you, Barney.
08:42You're welcome.
08:43Let's get started.
08:44Okay.
08:46Mmm.
08:47Excellent.
08:48It looks like dough.
08:49Let's see it.
08:50That's it.
08:51Here's the big ball.
08:52Hey, do we need a tail or something?
08:54No.
08:55What we're going to do is sort of mount this on...
08:57What do you think?
08:58Here's an example.
08:59Very good.
09:01Oh, look at all these spiders.
09:04Yummy.
09:05They look super delicious.
09:08Thank you for showing us how to make spider cookies, Granddad.
09:11You're certainly welcome.
09:13Thanks, Granddad.
09:14Now, let's put your spiders in this jar till it's time to take them home.
09:18Your turn, Cathy.
09:19You want spiders?
09:20Yeah.
09:21Yes.
09:22There's two spiders.
09:24It's your turn, Granddad.
09:25Three spiders.
09:28Four spiders.
09:36Itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout
09:39Down came the rain and washed the spider out
09:42Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
09:45And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again
09:55The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout
09:59Down came the rain and washed the spider out
10:02Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
10:05And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again
10:13Itsy bitsy spider, itsy bitsy, itsy bitsy.
10:16I didn't know you could do itsy bitsy spider.
10:18Well, of course I can.
10:20We had the very same song and game when I was little.
10:23But I'll tell you something we didn't have.
10:25What's that?
10:26We didn't have any television.
10:29No television at all?
10:31We played lots of games and we read a lot of books.
10:34Reading books is one of our favorite things to do, too.
10:37Yeah, I like to read books.
10:39Yes, and we also like to listen to a lot of our favorite shows on the radio.
10:43You mean sort of like TV shows?
10:45That's right, man. There were funny shows and sports shows.
10:48Even a few spooky shows. I love them all.
10:51And there weren't any pictures?
10:53No, there were words and sounds and music.
10:57But for the rest, we had to use our imagination.
11:00Oh, that's what we like best.
11:03Sure do, Barney.
11:04Yes, radios sounded a lot different in those days
11:08They looked a lot different, too.
11:10Did they look sort of like this?
11:14Wow!
11:17Barney, do you think we could hear one of those radio shows?
11:20Oh, I think I can help with that.
11:22If everyone will just have a seat.
11:26Just grab a chair and sit right down.
11:28I wonder what it's about.
11:36And now, Radio PRNY presents
11:39Imagination Theater!
11:42Today's story, Mr. Tootles and the Spooky Old House.
11:48One bright, sunny morning, Mr. Tootles stepped outside.
11:52Tootly-dum, tootly-dee-dee, dum-dum, tootly-tootly-dum.
11:56It was a beautiful day and he could hear lots of...
12:04He walked to his mailbox and found something inside.
12:08He tore open...
12:15And he read these words.
12:18Tonight, come to the Spooky Old House and you'll get a big surprise.
12:27When the night was deep and dark, Mr. Tootles went to the Spooky Old House.
12:33Oh, it's big and dark and spooky.
12:39By the light of the moon, he could see the trees blowing in...
12:48And far away, he could hear...
12:53Uh-oh, I guess I'd better go inside.
12:59Mr. Tootles walked right up and opened...
13:06Because it was very dark, he stepped carefully inside.
13:12Uh-oh, sorry kitty, I didn't mean to scare you.
13:16Mr. Tootles looked all around, but he didn't find a big surprise.
13:20So, he started to climb...
13:25And when he got to the top of the stairs in this Spooky Old House,
13:30he opened another...
13:35And inside, he saw...
13:39And so, Mr. Tootles had oodles of fun with his friends.
13:43Which brings us to the end of Imagination Theater.
13:48Thanks for listening.
