00:01:07Once upon a time, on the North Shore of Long Island,
00:01:11some 30 miles from New York,
00:01:13there lived a small girl on a large estate.
00:01:17The estate was very large indeed, and had many servants.
00:01:22There were gardeners to take care of the gardens,
00:01:25and a tree surgeon on a retainer.
00:01:28There was a boatman to take care of the boats,
00:01:31to put them in the water in the spring,
00:01:34and scrape their bottoms in the winter.
00:01:36There were specialists to take care of the grounds,
00:01:40the outdoor tennis court and the indoor tennis court,
00:01:44the outdoor swimming pool and the indoor swimming pool.
00:01:50And there was a man of no particular title
00:01:53who took care of a small pool in the garden
00:01:56for a goldfish named George.
00:02:01Also on the estate, there was a chauffeur by the name of Fairchild,
00:02:07who had been imported from England years ago,
00:02:10together with a new Rolls Royce.
00:02:13Fairchild was a fine chauffeur of considerable polish,
00:02:18like the eight cars in his care.
00:02:21And he had a daughter by the name of Sabrina.
00:02:27It was the eve of the annual six-metre yacht races,
00:02:31and as had been traditional on Long Island for the past 30 years,
00:02:35the Larrabees were giving a party.
00:02:38It never rained on the night of the Larrabee party.
00:02:42The Larrabees wouldn't have stood for it.
00:02:45There were four Larrabees in all, father, mother and two sons.
00:02:52George and Oliver Larrabee were married in 1906,
00:02:56and among their many wedding presents was a townhouse in New York
00:03:00and this estate for weekends.
00:03:03The townhouse has since been converted into Saks Fifth Avenue.
00:03:08Linus Larrabee, the elder son, graduated from Yale,
00:03:13where his classmates voted him the man most likely to leave his alma mater $50 million.
00:03:20His brother, David, went through several of the best Eastern colleges
00:03:25for short periods of time,
00:03:28and through several marriages for even shorter periods of time.
00:03:33He is now a successful six-gold polo player,
00:03:37and is listed on Linus' tax return as a $600 deduction.
00:03:44Life was pleasant among the Larrabees,
00:03:47for this was as close to heaven as one could get on Long Island.
00:03:54I reach for you like I'd reach for a star
00:04:00Worshipping you from afar
00:04:04Living with my silent love
00:04:10I'm like a flame dying out in the rain
00:04:16Only the eyes can see
00:04:20Smoldering like my silent love
00:04:26How I long for you
00:04:30Come on down from there, Sabrina. Come on.
00:04:34You'd better go to your room and finish your packing.
00:04:37Who's that girl, father?
00:04:39Which girl?
00:04:40The one dancing with David.
00:04:43Her name's Van Horn. Gretchen Van Horn. Chase National Bank.
00:04:48I hate girls that giggle all the time.
00:04:51You hate every girl David looks at.
00:04:53Sabrina, you can't go on like this about David all your life.
00:04:56You understand that. You've got to get over it.
00:04:59Yes, father.
00:05:00It's good you're going away. I only hope it's far enough.
00:05:04Yes, father.
00:05:05Come along, Sabrina.
00:05:08In a minute, father. You go ahead.
00:05:10I'll be up soon.
00:05:40I love you.
00:06:11Oh, it's you, Sabrina.
00:06:13Hello, David.
00:06:14I thought I heard somebody.
00:06:19No, it's nobody.
00:06:40Gretchen?
00:06:41You who?
00:06:42Hennessy, anyone?
00:06:45Gretchen?
00:06:51What do we call this? Mix singles?
00:06:57Oh, no, no, no.
00:06:58Whatever you do, you have to stay on your side of the net.
00:07:01Well, that'll be a little difficult, Gretchen.
00:07:03Oh, David, you know I love you.
00:07:06Well, that'll be a little difficult, Gretchen.
00:07:09Oh, David, you know the rules of the game.
00:07:12Okay, I'll serve.
00:07:36I love you.
00:08:06I love you.
00:08:36I love you.
00:08:47Sabrina?
00:08:49Sabrina?
00:08:58Yes, father?
00:08:59You won't forget your passport in the morning.
00:09:01No, father.
00:09:03You know, it's not every girl that's lucky enough to go to Paris.
00:09:07I know.
00:09:08And it's the best cooking school in the world, Sabrina.
00:09:11If your mother were alive, she'd be very happy to know that you were going there.
00:09:15After all, she was the best cook on Long Island.
00:09:20Oh, I'm not telling you that you have to be a cook as she was,
00:09:23or that I want you to marry a chauffeur like me.
00:09:26But you know how I feel about it.
00:09:28Your mother and I had a good life together.
00:09:31We were respected by everyone.
00:09:33That's as much as anyone can want in this world.
00:09:37Don't reach for the moon, child.
00:09:43No, father.
00:09:44Besides, it never hurt a young girl to learn how to cook, did it, Sabrina?
00:09:49I'll wake you at seven.
00:09:50The boat goes at noon.
00:09:52Good night.
00:09:54Good night.
00:10:01Good night.
00:10:31Is it romantic?
00:10:44Music in the night, a dream that can be heard.
00:10:49Is it romantic?
00:10:52Moving shadows write the oldest magic words.
00:10:59I hear the breezes playing in the trees above.
00:11:07While all the world is saying you were meant for love.
00:11:15Isn't it romantic?
00:11:18Merely to be young on such a night as this.
00:11:23Isn't it romantic?
00:11:27Every note that's sung is like a lover's kiss.
00:11:33Sweet symbols in the moonlight.
00:11:38Do you mean that I will fall in love with chance?
00:11:45Isn't it romantic?
00:11:56Music in the night, a dream that can be heard.
00:12:01Is it romantic?
00:12:04Moving shadows write the oldest magic words.
00:12:09I hear the breezes playing in the trees above.
00:12:15While all the world is saying you were meant for love.
00:12:22Isn't it romantic?
00:12:25Music in the night, a dream that can be heard.
00:12:30Isn't it romantic?
00:12:33Moving shadows write the oldest magic words.
00:12:39I hear the breezes playing in the trees above.
00:12:45While all the world is saying you were meant for love.
00:12:51Isn't it romantic?

00:14:21Car engine starts.
00:14:51Car engine starts.
00:15:21Car engine starts.
00:15:39What's going on here?
00:15:42Fairchild! Fairchild!
00:15:45Anybody here?
00:15:51Fairchild!
00:15:54Fairchild!
00:16:20Who's that?
00:16:24Sabrina, come out of there.
00:16:27Come on. Come on out of there.
00:16:33Hello.
00:16:35What are you doing here?
00:16:38Just checking the spark plugs.
00:16:41What?
00:16:43Father was worried because one of the spark plugs was missing.
00:16:46I wanted to find out which one it was.
00:16:49Oh, so you started all the morning.
00:16:52I didn't want to disturb anyone.
00:16:55You might never have disturbed anyone again.
00:16:58Does your father know about this?
00:17:01No. I wanted to surprise him.
00:17:04You'd better get out of here.
00:17:07Here now. Now breathe deep.
00:17:10That's right. Now deeper.
00:17:23What happened?
00:17:26Passed out.
00:17:29All right.
00:17:32You don't have to carry me.
00:17:35Of all the idiotic things.
00:17:38Haven't you ever heard of carbon monoxide?
00:17:41It kills people.
00:17:44It does?
00:17:47Certainly. What do you suppose would have happened if I hadn't come along?
00:17:50I'd have died.
00:17:53And fast. Eight cars. One would have done it.
00:17:56It's a good thing Mrs. Van Horn asked me to drive her home.
00:17:59Mrs. Van Horn? Gretchen's mother?
00:18:02Why didn't she drive her home?
00:18:05Because we can't find Gretchen.
00:18:08She what?
00:18:11Nothing.
00:18:14Well, all right. The next time you start a car, make sure you leave the garage doors open.
00:18:17I'm sure Mrs. Van Horn's daughter would know better.
00:18:20Yes, sir.
00:18:41Bonjour, mesdames et messieurs.
00:18:44Yesterday, we have learned the correct way how to boil water.
00:18:47Today, we will learn the correct way how to crack an egg.
00:18:53Voilà, an egg.
00:18:56Now an egg is not a stone.
00:18:59It is not made of wood. It is a living thing.
00:19:02It has a heart.
00:19:05So when we crack it, we must not torment it.
00:19:08We must be merciful and execute it quickly like with the guillotine.
00:19:11It is done with one hand.
00:19:14Handly watch the wrist.
00:19:17Voilà. One, two, three, crack.
00:19:23You see? It is all in the wrist.
00:19:26And now everybody, take an egg.
00:19:29One, two, three, crack.
00:19:32New egg.
00:19:35One, two, three, crack.
00:19:38New egg. One, two, three, crack.
00:19:41New egg. One, two, three, crack.
00:19:44Take an egg.
00:19:47Crack.
00:19:53The wrist.
00:19:56One, two, three, crack.
00:19:59New egg.
00:20:02One, two, three, crack.
00:20:05One, two, three, crack.
00:20:08New egg. One, two...
00:20:11Dear father, or cher papa, as we say over here,
00:20:14isn't my French getting good?
00:20:17Well, we finally finished our four-week course in sauces, and thank goodness.
00:20:20I thought soups were tough, but sauces just about killed me.
00:20:23I almost flunked my hollandaise.
00:20:26It kept separating on me.
00:20:29Too much vinegar. Did she mention David?
00:20:32It's Mr. Linus, Tom. He's ready to go into town.
00:20:35What about David? What did she say about David?
00:20:38Not a word. That's good.
00:20:41Now, wait a minute. Here's something. I don't think of David very much anymore.
00:20:44That's good. Except at night.
00:20:47That's bad. I decided to be sensible the other day and tore up David's picture.
00:20:50That's good.
00:20:53Could you please airmail me some scotch tape? That's bad.
00:20:56Morning, Fairchild.
00:20:59Good morning, sir.
00:21:02Beautiful day, sir.
00:21:05All right, take the parkway. Two windows open, 35 miles an hour.
00:21:08Yes, sir.
00:21:20Morning, Linus. Where are you off to?
00:21:23The office. Where do you think?
00:21:26The office? On Sunday? Today is Wednesday.
00:21:29Wednesday?
00:21:36This is KO75263.
00:21:39Give me Bowling Green 91099.
00:21:42Good morning, Mr. McArdle.
00:21:45How did the market open?
00:21:48Industrial is 247.63.
00:21:51Rails, 94.7, up 58 cents.
00:21:54Utilities, 47.23, off 11 cents.
00:21:57I'm just leaving the house.
00:22:00You can put the coffee on in 45 minutes.
00:22:07Enter office memo.
00:22:10Linus Larrabee to David Larrabee.
00:22:13Dear David, this is to remind you that you are a junior partner of Larrabee Industries.
00:22:16Our building is located at 30 Broad Street, New York City.
00:22:19Your office is on the 22nd floor.
00:22:22Our normal week is Monday through Friday.
00:22:25Our working day is 9 to 5.
00:22:28Should you find this inconvenient, you are free to retire under the Larrabee pension plan.
00:22:31Having been with us one year, this will entitle you to 65 cents a month for the rest of your life.
00:22:43What do you have for your daughter, Fairchild?
00:22:46I beg your pardon?
00:22:49I mean, she loves the cooking school, sir.
00:22:52But she'll get over it.
00:23:02And now, mesdames et messieurs,
00:23:05soon we will see how you have learned the lesson of the soufflé.
00:23:08The soufflé, it must be gay.
00:23:11Gay!
00:23:15Like two butterflies
00:23:18dancing the waltz in the summer breeze.
00:23:23Very well.
00:23:26You have five seconds.
00:23:29Four seconds.
00:23:32Three seconds.
00:23:35Two seconds.
00:23:38One second.
00:23:42Too low.
00:23:45Too pale.
00:23:48Too heavy.
00:23:51Too low.
00:23:54Too high. You are exaggerating.
00:23:57Fair.
00:24:00So-so.
00:24:03Sloppy.
00:24:06Superb.
00:24:10Medea Baron, you have not lost your touch.
00:24:15Much too low.
00:24:20I don't know what happened.
00:24:23I will tell you what happened.
00:24:26You forgot to turn on the oven.
00:24:29I've been watching you for a long time, mademoiselle.
00:24:32Your mind has not been on the cooking.
00:24:35Your mind has been elsewhere.
00:24:38A woman happily in love.
00:24:41Does it show?
00:24:44Very clearly. A woman happily in love, she burns the soufflé.
00:24:47A woman unhappily in love,
00:24:50she forgets to turn on the oven.
00:24:53Am I correct?
00:24:56Yes, but I'm trying to get over it.
00:24:59I try to get over it.
00:25:02You speak of love like it was a bad cough.
00:25:05Might as well be reaching for the moon.
00:25:08The moon?
00:25:11You young people, you are so old-fashioned.
00:25:14Have you not heard?
00:25:17We are building rockets to reach the moon.
00:25:20To begin with,
00:25:23you must stop looking like a horse.
00:25:26Horse?
00:25:30His name is the Baron St. Fontenelle.
00:25:33Baron?
00:25:36He came to the cooking school to take a refresher course in soufflés
00:25:39and liked me so much he decided to stay on for the fish.
00:25:42What about David? What does she say about David?
00:25:45David, she's got a baron.
00:25:48The baron is 74 years old
00:25:51and very sweet and very wise.
00:25:54He has a box at the opera, a racing stable,
00:25:58wonderful paintings and his own vineyards.
00:26:01Tomorrow night he is taking me to a very fashionable charity ball
00:26:04and I have an evening dress just for the occasion.
00:26:07If David could only see me in it.
00:26:10Yards of skirt and way off your shoulders.
00:26:13Good morning, sir.
00:26:16Morning. What's going on here?
00:26:19A letter from Sabrina, sir.
00:26:22Wouldn't you like to read it, Mr. David?
00:26:26Poor Sabrina.
00:26:29What's the matter with him anyway?
00:26:32He's getting married again. That's what's the matter with him.
00:26:35He is?
00:26:38Number four. Who says so?
00:26:41Charlie Knickerbocker.
00:26:44Don't you people ever read the society columns?
00:26:55Don't you people ever read the society columns?
00:27:25Is he in? Is my brother in?
00:27:28Yes, he is, Mr. David, but he's very busy.
00:27:31I want to see him.
00:27:34Well, how about 3.30 this afternoon?
00:27:37I want to see him now.
00:27:40Well, I'm sorry, Mr. David. I have my orders.
00:27:43He's working with the lawyers on the plastics deal.
00:27:46Miss McCardell, are you going to press that button
00:27:49or do I have to take you up in my arms and break that door down
00:27:52Linus, I want to talk to you.
00:27:58Ask Miss McCardell for an appointment.
00:28:01Don't give me that appointment business. I'm mad. I'm really steamed.
00:28:04All right, gentlemen. I'll be ten minutes.
00:28:07Now, what's the trouble?
00:28:10How did this get in the paper?
00:28:13What?
00:28:16It looks like wedding bells for David Larrabee again.
00:28:19Congratulations.
00:28:22Did you plant this?
00:28:25Me? I thought it was common knowledge about you and Elizabeth Tyson.
00:28:28You like her, don't you?
00:28:31I like her a lot. I like a lot of girls a lot.
00:28:34You can say that again. What are you going to do with that gun?
00:28:37Put that thing away, Linus.
00:28:40Look at that. Greatest plastic ever made.
00:28:43Not a scratch on it.
00:28:46Miss McCardell, get General Stanton on Governor's Isle
00:28:49and ask if we can borrow a bazooka.
00:28:52To get back to my problem, if you don't mind.
00:28:55Get this straight, Linus. I have no intention of marrying Elizabeth Tyson.
00:28:58Doesn't burn.
00:29:01Doesn't scorch. Doesn't melt.
00:29:04How about that?
00:29:07Look, Linus, I've been married before. I've had it. I've had it three times.
00:29:10This is the first time the family approves because for once you're going to settle down and do something constructive.
00:29:13What's so constructive about marrying Elizabeth Tyson?
00:29:16Taste it. It's sweet.
00:29:19That's right. It's made of sugar cane. Sugar cane.
00:29:22Wait a minute.
00:29:25This wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that the Tysons
00:29:28own the largest holdings of sugar cane in Puerto Rico, would it?
00:29:31Second largest. The largest have no daughter.
00:29:34It's all beginning to make sense.
00:29:37Mr. Tyson owns the sugar cane.
00:29:40You own the formula for the plastics.
00:29:43And I'm supposed to be offered up as a human sacrifice on the altar of industrial progress.
00:29:46Is that it?
00:29:49You make it sound so vulgar, David, as if the son of the hot dog dynasty
00:29:52were being offered in marriage to the daughter of the mustard king.
00:29:55Surely, surely you don't object to Elizabeth just because her father happens to have $20 million.
00:29:58That's very narrow-minded of you, David.
00:30:01It's just one thing you overlooked.
00:30:04I haven't proposed and she hasn't accepted.
00:30:07Did you kiss him?
00:30:10Now, look, David, Elizabeth is one of the loveliest girls around.
00:30:13Sooner or later you're going to propose to her anyway.
00:30:16I'm only trying to help you make up your mind.
00:30:19Then why don't you marry her?
00:30:22Me? Well, what's so funny? You want to die an old maid?
00:30:25Well, I was just thinking that if I were ever to get married, I'd have to take a dictaphone,
00:30:28two secretaries, and four corporation counselors along on the honeymoon.
00:30:31I'd be unfaithful to my wife every night of my married life
00:30:34and I'd have to go to the office of the president,
00:30:37the board of directors, slide rule accountants.
00:30:40This, this is my home.
00:30:43No wife would ever understand it.
00:30:46Well, neither can I. You've got all the money in the world.
00:30:49But what's money got to do with it?
00:30:52If making money were all there was to business, it's hard to be worthwhile going to the office.
00:30:55Money is a byproduct.
00:30:58Well, what's the main objective? Power?
00:31:01Proof? Nothing much.
00:31:04A new product has been found, something of use to the world.
00:31:07So a new industry moves into an undeveloped area.
00:31:10Factories go up, machines are brought in, a harbor is dug and you're in business.
00:31:13It's purely coincidental, of course, that people who never saw a dime before
00:31:16suddenly have a dollar. And barefooted kids wear shoes
00:31:19and have their teeth fixed and their faces washed.
00:31:22What's wrong with the kind of a nurse that gives people libraries,
00:31:25hospitals, baseball diamonds, and movies on a Saturday night?
00:31:28Miss Ricardo, will you send in the secretary?
00:31:31Yes, Mr. Larrabee. Now you make me feel like a heel.
00:31:34If I don't marry Elizabeth, some kid's going to be running around Puerto Rico barefoot
00:31:37with cavities in his teeth. Here, look at this stuff.
00:31:40You'll fly in a plane made of it, you'll wear a suit made of it,
00:31:43and before we're through with it, you'll probably be able to heat it.
00:31:46We're organizing Larrabee Plastics. Larrabee Construction is ready with the blueprints.
00:31:49Larrabee Shipping has bought nine more freighters to handle the traffic.
00:31:52You mean the wheels are in motion already?
00:31:55That's exactly what I mean.
00:31:58Would you mind demonstrating the weight test for Mr. David, please?
00:32:01Oh, Linus, I'll take your word for it.
00:32:04Now, up you go. Now, wait a minute. I want you to see how resilient it is.
00:32:07Bounce, please, ladies.
00:32:12Some plastic, eh?
00:32:15We're planning on a summer wedding so we can get in on this year's sugar crop.
00:32:18Yeah.
00:32:21I think you're going to be very happy, David.
00:32:24Thank you.
00:32:32Dearest Father,
00:32:35we shall be graduating next week and I shall be getting my diploma.
00:32:40I want to thank you now for the two most wonderful years of my life.
00:32:45I shall always love you for sending me here.
00:32:54Thank you.
00:33:18It is late at night
00:33:21It is the French way of saying I am looking at the world through rose-colored glasses
00:33:28and it says everything I feel.
00:33:32I have learned so many things, father.
00:33:36Not just how to make Bichyssoise or calf's head with sauce vinaigrette,
00:33:42but a much more important recipe.
00:33:46I have learned how to live.
00:33:49How to be in the world and of the world.
00:33:54And not just to stand aside and watch.
00:33:59And I will never, never again run away from life.
00:34:04Or from love either.
00:34:08I am taking the plane home on Friday, father.
00:34:12I am taking the plane home on Friday, father.
00:34:16You needn't pick me up at the airport.
00:34:19I'll just take the Long Island Railroad and you can meet me at the train.
00:34:24The 415.
00:34:27If you should have any difficulty recognizing your daughter,
00:34:32I shall be the most sophisticated woman at the Glen Cove station.

00:35:42Come to think of it, no, you're not supposed to know.
00:35:44Are you stranded?
00:35:46My father was supposed to pick me up, but something must have happened.
00:35:49Whoever your father is and whatever happened, I'll be eternally grateful.
00:35:52That is, if I can give you a lift.
00:35:54You certainly can. You can drive me home.
00:35:56Good. I'll get your bags.
00:36:00Where do you live?
00:36:02Desaurus Lane.
00:36:04Desaurus Lane? Say, that's where I live.
00:36:07Really?
00:36:08Sure. We must be neighbors.
00:36:10There's one thing I believe in. It's love thy neighbor.
00:36:13Oh, so do I.
00:36:16Come on, David.
00:36:18David? Is his name David?
00:36:20Yes, it is.
00:36:22That's funny. My name's David, too.
00:36:25That is funny, isn't it?
00:36:32Are you sure you don't want to tell me your name?
00:36:35Positive. I'm having much too much fun.
00:36:39Do you want to play games?
00:36:41Have you always lived here in Long Island?
00:36:43Most of my life.
00:36:45I could have sworn I knew every pretty girl on the North Shore.
00:36:48I could have sworn you took in more territory than that.
00:36:51This is maddening. I know I've seen that face before.
00:36:55Let me see your profile again.
00:36:58I know, I know you.
00:37:00I have a feeling I've seen you with your father.
00:37:04Wait a minute. Is your father Admiral Starrett?
00:37:07Sadly.
00:37:09It's funny. I keep seeing him in a uniform.
00:37:12Oh, come on. Give us a hint.
00:37:14What does your father do?
00:37:16He's in transportation.
00:37:18Transportation. Railroads, New York Central.
00:37:21No.
00:37:22Planes, TWA.
00:37:23No.
00:37:24Boats, United States lines.
00:37:26No.
00:37:27I pass.
00:37:29Automobiles.
00:37:31Oh. Chrysler.
00:37:34Chrysler and Ford and General Motors and Rolls Royce.
00:37:38Is your father on the board of directors of all those companies?
00:37:41Well, you might say he runs things.
00:37:45I bet my brother Linus knows him.
00:37:47He certainly does.
00:37:49As a matter of fact, they quite often drive into town together.
00:37:52They do?
00:37:53Straight through to the garage, please.
00:37:56I feel so stupid I could kill myself.
00:37:59You'll be all right in a minute.
00:38:04Here we are.
00:38:06Now, look, I'm not just pulling that old line of haven't we met somewhere before.
00:38:09We have met some...
00:38:12You don't live here.
00:38:13Yes, I do.
00:38:14I live here.
00:38:16Hi, neighbor.
00:38:20Sabrina!
00:38:23Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:25Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:26Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:27Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:28Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:29Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:30Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:31Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:32Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:33Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:34Oh, Sabrina.
00:38:35Oh, Margaret, it's so fun to be home.
00:38:38Look at you.
00:38:39You're such a lady.
00:38:40You've come home such a beautiful lady.
00:38:42Oh, and Charles.
00:38:43Oh, welcome home, Sabrina.
00:38:45And Ernest.
00:38:46Jenny, how are you?
00:38:49Don't cry, Margaret.
00:38:50There's nothing to cry about.
00:38:52I brought you a hat, Margaret.
00:38:54A real Paris hat you'd wear to church on Sundays.
00:38:57And Jenny, I've got something for you.
00:39:02Father!
00:39:07I'm sorry I missed you, Sabrina, but I had to take Mrs. Larrabee to the hairdresser.
00:39:15It doesn't matter.
00:39:16It doesn't matter.
00:39:18No, I wouldn't have recognized you anyway.
00:39:22Well, David had a little trouble, didn't you, David?
00:39:25Yes.
00:39:26Yes, I did.
00:39:28I'll put some coffee on.
00:39:29Will you come to the kitchen, Sabrina?
00:39:31As soon as I've opened my bags, Margaret.
00:39:33Well, let's get them out of the car, and I'll take them upstairs.
00:39:36Look, as old neighbors, I think the two of us should have a reunion.
00:39:40It's only fair.
00:39:41How about tonight?
00:39:42Do you really want to see me?
00:39:44Very much.
00:39:45Sure?
00:39:46Yes, I'm sure.
00:39:47All right.
00:39:48Good.
00:39:49We'll go out on the town.
00:39:50We'll drive to New York, have a quick drink at the store, and then go somewhere for dinner.
00:39:53I know a wonderful little French restaurant over on First Avenue.
00:39:57I guess you wouldn't think so much of it after Paris.
00:40:00I love it.
00:40:01Then we'll go dancing someplace.
00:40:03And when they throw us out of El Morocco, we'll mosey on down to the village.
00:40:07You like Dixieland bands?
00:40:08Yes.
00:40:09I know the greatest.
00:40:10It's...
00:40:11Wait a minute.
00:40:12I completely forgot.
00:40:13We're having a big party at the house here tonight.
00:40:16With an orchestra and dancing?
00:40:17Yes.
00:40:18That'll be even more fun.
00:40:19Oh, I don't know.
00:40:21A lot of dull people around.
00:40:22Family stuff, you know.
00:40:23Well, I don't mind, David, as long as you're there.
00:40:26Sabrina.
00:40:27In a minute, Father.
00:40:28And I have a lovely evening dress with yards of skirt and way off the shoulder.
00:40:32Shall I wear it?
00:40:33Yes, of course.
00:40:34Oh, David, this couldn't be nicer.
00:40:36Homecoming party.
00:40:37I'll...
00:40:38I'll get the dress out and dress it.
00:40:40See you tonight.
00:40:50Hello, Linus.
00:40:51I'm back.
00:40:55Hello.
00:41:01It's Sabrina.
00:41:02Isn't it amazing?
00:41:03Would you have recognized her?
00:41:04That scrawny little kid who used to whip around corners every time she saw us coming?
00:41:07Her knees always painted with new chiroprome.
00:41:10How do you like those legs now?
00:41:12David.
00:41:13Aren't they something?
00:41:14David.
00:41:16The last pair of legs that was something cost the family $25,000.
00:41:20Wait till you see what I brought you from Paris.
00:41:23Sabrina.
00:41:24I know I should have mentioned it in my last letter.
00:41:26Here we are.
00:41:27Do you like it?
00:41:28But I didn't want to upset you.
00:41:29Here.
00:41:30I'll be gaudy.
00:41:32Sabrina.
00:41:33David is engaged.
00:41:34He's getting married again.
00:41:36I know.
00:41:37Margaret wrote me.
00:41:38Real Napoleon brandy.
00:41:40And this is for you to wear on your day off.
00:41:42Then you don't care?
00:41:43Not too much.
00:41:44After all, he's not married yet.
00:41:47I don't like that.
00:41:48I don't like the sound of it.
00:41:49But don't you see, Father, everything has changed?
00:41:52He's still David Larrabee.
00:41:54And you're still the chauffeur's daughter.
00:41:56And you're still reaching for the moon.
00:41:59No, Father.
00:42:01The moon's reaching for me.
00:42:23I wish the wedding were tomorrow, David.
00:42:26Don't you?
00:42:27Yes, dear.
00:42:29Ten more days.
00:42:31It'll seem more like ten years.
00:42:34Yes, dear.
00:42:35Father had planned for us to fly to Honolulu right after the reception.
00:42:38But I said, definitely not.
00:42:40I said, no.
00:42:41I said, no.
00:42:42I said, no.
00:42:43I said, no.
00:42:44I said, no.
00:42:45I said, no.
00:42:46I said, no.
00:42:47I said, no.
00:42:48I said, no.
00:42:49I said, no.
00:42:50I said, no.
00:42:51I said, no.
00:42:52I said, no.
00:42:53I said, no.
00:42:54I certainly don't want to spend the first eighteen hours of my honeymoon in a plane,
00:42:58sitting up, do you?
00:43:00Yes, dear.
00:43:01David?
00:43:02What?
00:43:03I mean, no.
00:43:04I mean, what did you say?
00:43:05Darling, aren't you interested?
00:43:06Of course, dear.
00:43:13Aren't they a sweet couple, charming?
00:43:15Elizabeth's a lovely girl.
00:43:17I wish young men would stop wearing white jackets in the evening.
00:43:19Now, Oliver.
00:43:21My throat's dry.
00:43:22Have you been smoking?
00:43:23Lord, I stopped smoking three months ago.
00:43:25I find it rather sad that after 48 years of marriage,
00:43:28distrust should creep into our relationship.
00:43:31I'll join the men in the library.
00:43:33David.
00:43:49Hmm?
00:43:50I think I ought to have a talk with your chauffeur.
00:43:53Our chauffeur?
00:43:54What for?
00:43:55Well, Father wants to give me either a Bentley or a Mercedes as a present,
00:43:58and I thought your chauffeur would be able to tell me...
00:44:00Sure, sure, of course.
00:44:02What's his name?
00:44:03Sabrina.
00:44:05I, uh, I mean Fairchild.
00:44:07I'll talk to him, Elizabeth. Don't bother.
00:44:09All right, darling.
00:44:10I know you'll take care of everything.
00:44:32What is it, David?
00:44:44Oh, uh, would you like to go in and get something to eat?
00:44:47No, thank you, darling.
00:44:48A drink?
00:44:49No.
00:44:58I'm terribly sorry.
00:45:00No, no, it's my fault. I didn't see you.
00:45:03Will it wash out, Elizabeth?
00:45:04Oh, yes, it isn't bad.
00:45:05Well, you'd better go and do it right now, huh?
00:45:07Come on, Elizabeth. I'll help you.
00:45:08All right.
00:45:17Sabrina.
00:45:19David.
00:45:25Hello.
00:45:26You look wonderful.
00:45:27Thank you.
00:45:29I'm a bit late.
00:45:30I worry.
00:45:31Were you afraid I'd forgotten the address?
00:45:33It crossed my mind.
00:45:35Shall we dance?
00:45:36Right here.
00:46:00Who is that girl?
00:46:06I don't know.
00:46:07I wonder what happened to Elizabeth.
00:46:14What a lovely party.
00:46:16It is now.
00:46:18The nicest one you've ever had.
00:46:20And I've been to all your parties.
00:46:22You have?
00:46:23Standing right up there in that tree.
00:46:27Oh, Sabrina, if I'd only known.
00:46:48Oh, Sabrina, Sabrina, where have you been all my life?
00:46:52Right over the garage.
00:46:54Right over my car.
00:46:56Right up in that tree.
00:46:58What a fool I was.
00:47:01What a crush I had on you.
00:47:04It's not too late, is it?
00:47:07I don't know, David, is it?
00:47:25Oh, you should see her.
00:47:26You should see Sabrina.
00:47:28The prettiest girl, the prettiest dress,
00:47:30the best dancer, the belle of them all.
00:47:33And such poise, as though she belonged up there.
00:47:35I don't like it.
00:47:36Was she dancing with David?
00:47:37That's right.
00:47:38And he's holding her so close,
00:47:40I don't see how the poor girl can breathe.
00:47:42And the way they look into each other's eyes.
00:47:46I don't like it.
00:47:47Oh, Tom, you ought to be happy for her.
00:47:49This is what she wanted.
00:47:51This is where she belongs.
00:47:52No, it's not.
00:47:53And it's not where I belong.
00:47:55Remember the chauffeur on the Harrington estate?
00:47:57Now, his daughter fell in love with the son of the house,
00:47:59and the first thing he knew,
00:48:00he was driving the family to the church,
00:48:02changing his uniform,
00:48:03and walking down the aisle to give the bride away.
00:48:05That's not for me. I don't like it.
00:48:07Tom, that was 25 years ago.
00:48:09Come on, let's sneak up and see.
00:48:24David.
00:48:26David.
00:48:30Oh, hello, Mother.
00:48:31David, I don't believe I know this young lady.
00:48:33Oh, yes, you do.
00:48:34Good evening, Mrs. Larrabee.
00:48:36Mother, this is Miss Fairchild.
00:48:38Sabrina?
00:48:39Yes, of course.
00:48:41You are Miss Fairchild?
00:48:43Yes, I am.
00:48:44And you are Miss Fairchild?
00:48:46Yes, I am.
00:48:47And you are Miss Fairchild?
00:48:48Yes, I am.
00:48:49And you are Miss Fairchild?
00:48:50Yes, I am.
00:48:51Yes, of course.
00:48:53Yes, of course.
00:48:55Of course, Sabrina.
00:48:57You didn't recognize me, did you?
00:48:59Have I changed? Have I really changed?
00:49:01You certainly have.
00:49:03You look lovely, Sabrina.
00:49:05Doesn't she, though?
00:49:06I thought it would be fun to ask her to the party.
00:49:08You know, kind of a welcome home.
00:49:10Well, David's been just wonderful, Mrs. Larrabee.
00:49:12He met me at the station.
00:49:13Did he?
00:49:14How nice of him.
00:49:15Yes, she's been to Paris, you know.
00:49:17Yes, I know.
00:49:18You must come over sometime and cook something very special for us, Sabrina.
00:49:22I want to see what you've learned.
00:49:24Oh, I've learned a lot.
00:49:29Aye.
00:49:48Aye.
00:50:18Aye.
00:50:49Oh, David, this is such fun.
00:50:51So much more fun than just watching from that tree.
00:50:54I'm so glad you came back home, Sabrina.
00:50:56I'll never let you go away again.
00:50:58Never?
00:50:59Never.
00:51:00David, would you like to kiss me?
00:51:02Would I?
00:51:04Yes.
00:51:05And now, I'll kiss you.
00:51:07I'll kiss you.
00:51:08I'll kiss you.
00:51:09I'll kiss you.
00:51:10I'll kiss you.
00:51:11I'll kiss you.
00:51:12I'll kiss you.
00:51:13I'll kiss you.
00:51:14I'll kiss you.
00:51:15I'll kiss you.
00:51:16I'll kiss you.
00:51:17A nice, steady kiss.
00:51:20Not on roller skates this time.
00:51:22Roller skates?
00:51:23You don't remember?
00:51:24Well, I remember I had a pair of roller skates.
00:51:27I was nine years old, and you had your arms around me because you were teaching me to skate backwards.
00:51:32And suddenly, you kissed me.
00:51:35I've never forgotten.
00:51:38Well, Sabrina, let's get out of here.
00:51:40Yes, let's.
00:51:42I'll tell you what.
00:51:43You slip away first, and then I'll meet you at...
00:51:45The indoor tennis court.
00:51:46Yes.
00:51:47And you'll bring champagne.
00:51:48Of course.
00:51:53You saw an awful lot from that tree, didn't you?
00:51:56And will you have the orchestra play?
00:51:58Isn't it romantic?
00:52:00Naturally.
00:52:16What's happened to David?
00:52:33Oh, he's being a good host, but I'll get him out of circulation.
00:52:37Thank you.
00:52:44You got a minute, David?
00:52:52Not right now.
00:52:53The old man wants to see you.
00:52:55Later. I'm busy.
00:52:56You better come along. He's frothing at the mouth.
00:52:58Oh? What about?
00:52:59You guess.
00:53:00Animal, vegetable, or mineral?
00:53:02Definitely animal.
00:53:16I'm telling you, Linus, this boy should be drummed out of the family.
00:53:19What have I done now, Father?
00:53:21I'm not saying that all Larrabees have been saints.
00:53:24There was a Thomas Larrabee who was hung for piracy,
00:53:26and there was a Benjamin Larrabee who was a slave trader,
00:53:28and there was my great-great-uncle Joshua Larrabee
00:53:30who was shot in Indiana while attempting to rob a train.
00:53:32But there never was a Larrabee who behaved as David Larrabee has behaved here tonight.
00:53:36Exactly what have I done?
00:53:37What have you done?
00:53:39Father, remember your basal metabolism.
00:53:41No gentleman makes love to a servant in his mother's house.
00:53:44She is not a servant.
00:53:45She's a servant's daughter, and in behaving as you have,
00:53:47you've embarrassed not only your mother, but also our chauffeur.
00:53:50I have too much respect for Fairchild ever to intrude on his personal life,
00:53:53and I expect you to have the same respect for his daughter.
00:53:56I have so much respect for his daughter, I invited her to the party.
00:53:59That's overdoing it. I love her.
00:54:02He loves her.
00:54:03Next thing we know, he'll lean the ladder up against a garage wall
00:54:06and elope with a girl in the middle of the night.
00:54:08Maybe.
00:54:09I'll overlook for the moment the fact that you're an engaged man
00:54:12and merely remind you of your marital record to date.
00:54:15I know, Father. I've made three mistakes.
00:54:17First, that Hungarian countess,
00:54:20who only married you to bring her family over,
00:54:22a mother, a father, and five brothers,
00:54:24all of them badly in need of costly dental repairs.
00:54:28Do we have to go through that again?
00:54:29Then that Twyman girl.
00:54:31Her family 50 years on the social register,
00:54:33and she has the audacity to wear on her wedding dress
00:54:36not a corsage, but the Stevenson button.
00:54:38Father, you promised not to swear.
00:54:40Then that great actress.
00:54:42Turns out all she does is commercials on television
00:54:45for an underarm deodorant.
00:54:47Poof, poof, poof, poof.
00:54:49And now, our chauffeur's daughter.
00:54:51Father, are you through because there's someone waiting?
00:54:53I'm not through,
00:54:54and I'm sure that your brother Linus has a few words to say.
00:54:57Yes, I do, but I'm not so sure you're going to like them, Father.
00:54:59I think you're being a little unfair to David.
00:55:01I'm what?
00:55:02Well, I think David's old enough to live his own life
00:55:04if he decides Sabrina's the girl for him.
00:55:06Nonsense.
00:55:07Linus, you really mean that?
00:55:08Of course I mean it.
00:55:09But it would knock your plans for a loop.
00:55:11What plans? The plastics merger?
00:55:13Forget it.
00:55:14If you love her, take her.
00:55:15This is the 20th century.
00:55:16The 20th century?
00:55:17I could pick a century out of a hat,
00:55:19blindfold it, and get a better one.
00:55:21You'll get rid of that girl immediately, do you understand?
00:55:23And you'll apologize to your fiancée.
00:55:25Now, Father, don't push him.
00:55:27Let's discuss this like civilized people.
00:55:30Sit down, David.
00:55:31Thank you, Linus.
00:55:35Look, I really have to go.
00:55:36Suppose you two work it out.
00:55:37Do you want me to help you or don't you?
00:55:38Of course, Linus.
00:55:39I appreciate what you're doing.
00:55:40Sit down.
00:55:41Linus, you're the only one in this family who understands.
00:55:45Ow!
00:55:46No, no, no.
00:55:48What is it?
00:55:49What happened?
00:55:50Champagne glasses.
00:55:51I sat on them.
00:55:52On the chair?
00:55:53No, in my pocket.
00:55:55Oh.

01:05:11Oh.
01:05:12Oh.
01:05:13Oh.
01:05:14Oh.
01:05:15Oh.
01:05:16How's my poor darling?
01:05:17Oh, oh.
01:05:18I brought you six books, dear, and a game of Scrabble.
01:05:19Scrabble?
01:05:20I'm in no condition to play Scrabble.
01:05:21Oh, be silly.
01:05:22That's all you are in a condition to play.
01:05:23Well, I still don't understand what those glasses were doing in your pocket.
01:05:24I was taking them down the tennis court.
01:05:25There was somebody waiting.
01:05:26Oh, but I got.
01:05:27There was a game going on.
01:05:28In the dark?
01:05:29In the middle of the night?
01:05:30Yes, that's why he needed the glasses.
01:05:31Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
01:05:32Yes, that's why I needed the glasses.
01:05:44Shall we play three-handed?
01:05:46No, thanks. I've got to go sailing.
01:05:48Yes, he's got to go sailing.
01:05:49No more false move now. Not until those stitches are out.
01:05:52Yes, Linus.
01:05:53We don't want any complications to set in, do we?
01:05:56So long, Elizabeth.
01:05:58So long, Scarface.
01:06:02Good-bye.
01:06:21Oh, good afternoon, Father.
01:06:23I thought it was your mother.
01:06:25I don't mind your smoking in my room, but not in my clothes closet.
01:06:28It's good for the mouths.
01:06:30Now then, Linus, what about that girl over the garage?
01:06:33David wants to run off with her.
01:06:35That's nice, with the chauffeur's daughter.
01:06:37I don't care if he runs off with the gardener's grandmother.
01:06:39I just don't want him to run off with the plastic merger.
01:06:41I have a very simple solution. We'll fire Fairchild.
01:06:44Not after 25 years, Father.
01:06:46All right, then we'll write her a nice little check and tell her to forget about David.
01:06:50She doesn't want money. She wants love.
01:06:53I thought they discontinued that model.
01:06:55The last of the romantics. L'amour, toujours l'amour.
01:06:58Why does she have to pick on David?
01:07:00Why can't she be in love with someone else?
01:07:02We will do our best.
01:07:04Oh, is that the idea?
01:07:06Yep.
01:07:07You've got someone in mind for her?
01:07:08Yep.
01:07:09Who?
01:07:10Boula, boula, boula, boula, boula.
01:07:14Oh, no!
01:07:16What's the matter?
01:07:18Not you, Linus.
01:07:20Look, do you think this is any fun for me?
01:07:24I've got a whole desk full of work I was planning to clean up over the weekend.
01:07:27I'm supposed to be in Texas on the sulfur deal.
01:07:29The whole Puerto Rican operation has to be set in motion in the next 48 hours.
01:07:32And here I am going off on a sailboat to make an ass out of myself with a girl 22.
01:07:37Look at me.
01:07:38Joe College with a touch of arthritis.
01:07:42Could you use this sailing into the sunset?
01:07:45I wish I were dead with my back broken.
01:07:48Just a thought.
01:07:50Music might help.
01:07:52Seems to me I had a portable phonograph from my freshman days.
01:07:57I only hope you remember what to do with a girl.
01:08:00It'll come back to me.
01:08:01It's like riding a bicycle.
01:08:22This is a very unusual song.
01:08:24Is it popular?
01:08:26Yes.
01:08:27I wonder why I never heard it before.
01:08:29You've been in Paris for two years.
01:08:31Yes.
01:08:40How did they ever think of those words?
01:08:42They are clever, aren't they?
01:08:44May I play another?
01:08:45Of course.
01:08:46Oh, you need dusting.
01:08:47I beg your pardon?
01:08:48I didn't mean you, Linus.
01:08:50Thank you.
01:08:51How's David?
01:08:52Well, he's been flat on his stomach, but he's feeling better, thank you.
01:08:55Now he's flat on his back.
01:08:56I miss him.
01:08:58Not that I'm not having a good time.
01:09:05Sabrina.
01:09:06Yes?
01:09:07Do you mind if we turn this off?
01:09:10Why?
01:09:11Because.
01:09:12Don't you like it?
01:09:14I used to like it.
01:09:23Certain songs bring back certain memories to me, too.
01:09:28Did you love her?
01:09:30I'd rather not talk about it.
01:09:32I'm sorry.
01:09:33That's all right.
01:09:36So strange to think of you being touched by a woman.
01:09:40I always thought you walked alone.
01:09:42No man walks alone from choice.
01:09:47As a child, I used to watch you from the window over the garage.
01:09:51Running and going.
01:09:52Always wearing your black Homburg and carrying a briefcase and an umbrella.
01:09:58I thought you could never belong to anyone.
01:10:01Never care for anyone.
01:10:03Oh, yes.
01:10:04The coal businessman behind his marble desk way up in his executive suite.
01:10:08No emotion, just ice water in his veins and ticker tape coming from his heart.
01:10:14And yet, one day, that same coal businessman,
01:10:18high up in a skyscraper, opens a window, steps out on a ledge,
01:10:23stands there for three hours wondering if he should jump.
01:10:28Because of her?
01:10:29No.
01:10:30No, that was another woman.
01:10:32Sabrina, do you find it hard to believe that someone might want to blot out everything for sentimental reasons?
01:10:39Oh, I believe it.
01:10:40You know what I almost did because of sentimental reasons?
01:10:43I...
01:10:45I went to Paris to blot it out.
01:10:48Maybe you should go to Paris, Linus.
01:10:50To Paris?
01:10:51It helped me. A lot of you ever been there?
01:10:53Oh, yes.
01:10:54Yes, once.
01:10:55I was there for 35 minutes.
01:10:5735 minutes?
01:10:58Changing planes.
01:10:59I was on my way to Iraq on an oil deal.
01:11:01Oh, but Paris isn't for changing planes.
01:11:04It's...
01:11:05It's for changing your outlook.
01:11:07For throwing open the windows and letting in...
01:11:11Letting in l'avions.
01:11:13Paris is for lovers.
01:11:15Maybe that's why I stayed only 35 minutes.
01:11:45Hi, David.
01:11:59Hello, father.
01:12:05Margaret has some dinner for you in the kitchen, Sabrina.
01:12:09Funny, I used to be so afraid of him.
01:12:12Aren't you hungry?
01:12:14Father, you've driven Linus for so many years.
01:12:19What do you know about him?
01:12:20The chauffeur's supposed to keep his eyes on the road, Sabrina.
01:12:23Only once in a while does he get a glimpse in the rear-view mirror, huh?
01:12:27If you looked a little longer, Father, you'd find him rather nice.
01:12:31And quite human.
01:12:33We have no bananas today
01:12:52Good morning, Mr. Cardell.
01:12:54First of all, to Hannigan, Fort Worth, Texas.
01:12:57Unable to attend Larrabee Sulphur board meeting...
01:13:01...because of slight hitch, Larrabee plastics merger. Got that?
01:13:06Next. Here's the itinerary for tonight.
01:13:09I want two tickets to the Seven Year Ridge.
01:13:11A table for two at the Colony before the show...
01:13:14...a table for two at the Persian Room after the show.
01:13:17Make it a corner table, a dark corner.
01:13:21I'm just passing LaGuardia Field. You can put the coffee out in ten minutes.
01:13:24Make it strong.
01:13:26Fairchild, I'll be needing you tonight.
01:13:28Yes, sir.
01:13:30I'm taking Sabrina out again.
01:13:32Yes, sir.
01:13:33Do you have her at my office at seven o'clock?
01:13:36Yes, sir.
01:13:38Anything wrong, Fairchild?
01:13:40I would very much prefer that you dispense with my services...
01:13:43...on these dates with my daughter, sir.
01:13:45It makes for a rather awkward situation.
01:13:48Oh, I see. Well, that never occurred to me. I'm sorry.
01:13:51It's just not right, sir. I like to think of life as a limousine.
01:13:55Though we're all driving together, we must remember our places.
01:13:58There's a front seat and a back seat and a window in between.
01:14:02Fairchild, I never realized it before, but you're a terrible snob.
01:14:06Yes, sir.
01:14:07All right. Have her take one of the other cars and drive in herself.
01:14:11Have her take David's car.
01:14:13Thank you, sir. It's all so distressing.
01:14:16First Mr. David, now you.
01:14:18I wish Sabrina would have stayed in Paris.
01:14:20So do I.
01:14:22May I ask, sir, what exactly are your intentions?
01:14:26My intentions? Unethical, reprehensible, but very practical.
01:14:30Big problem?
01:14:31With your permission, Fairchild, I'm shipping your daughter back to Paris.
01:14:35You are, sir?
01:14:36That is, I'm going to try to ship her back.
01:14:38May I ask how, sir?
01:14:40First class, of course. I don't want you to worry about money.
01:14:44It's not money I'm worried about, sir. It's Sabrina.
01:14:47I just don't want her to get hurt.
01:14:49I'll be as gentle as I can.
01:14:51I hope so, sir. She's just a displaced person, I'm afraid.
01:14:55She doesn't belong in a mansion.
01:14:57But then again, she doesn't belong above a garage either.
01:15:07All right.
01:15:10The meeting of the board of directors of the Larrabee Industries will now come to order.
01:15:15As the chairman of the board, I would like to say at the outset...
01:15:19The chairman is so dizzy.
01:15:25Meeting adjourned. Have a frozen daiquiri.
01:15:29I once saw an office like this in an old copy of Fortune magazine at my dentist's.
01:15:34Has David got an office like this?
01:15:36Something like this, only larger.
01:15:38Larger?
01:15:39Oh, yes. Instead of a desk, he has a putting green.
01:15:42Please, Sabrina, before my fingers get frostbitten.
01:15:52Is this the ledge?
01:15:54What ledge?
01:15:56You know, the ledge. That woman. When you almost...
01:16:02Oh, the ledge.
01:16:05Yes.
01:16:07Yes, that's the ledge, all right.
01:16:09What made you not do it?
01:16:12Some children playing hopscotch on the sidewalk.
01:16:15I'm very fond of those children.
01:16:17Look at all these gadgets.
01:16:19Just imagine.
01:16:21You press a button and factories go up.
01:16:23Or you pick up a telephone and a hundred tankers set out for Persia.
01:16:28Or you switch on the dictaphone and say...
01:16:30Buy all of Cleveland and move it to Pittsburgh.
01:16:33You must be awfully clever.
01:16:35It's nothing really. Just a small knack like juggling three oranges.
01:16:39It isn't oranges. It's millions.
01:16:41Suppose you dropped one.
01:16:43Suppose I did. What's at the end of a million?
01:16:45Zero, zero, zero. Nothing. Circle with a hole in it.
01:16:50Sabrina.
01:16:51Yes, Highness?
01:16:53Can you keep a secret?
01:16:54Secret?
01:16:55Yes, of course you can.
01:16:57I want you to look out there.
01:16:59Uptown.
01:17:03You see the French Line pier?
01:17:05Yes.
01:17:06You see the boat?
01:17:07Yes.
01:17:09That's the Liberty. It sails on Thursday.
01:17:12I'm going to be on it.
01:17:15You are?
01:17:16Yes, I am.
01:17:17I'm sick of pushing buttons, sick of secretaries, sick of this office.
01:17:20I'm breaking out of here, Sabrina. I'm running away.
01:17:23Good for you.
01:17:24I've been thinking about Paris ever since you mentioned it.
01:17:26It's all your fault, Sabrina.
01:17:28It'll make a new person out of you, I guarantee.
01:17:30I'll double your money back.
01:17:32Oh, Linus, I'm so glad you're going.
01:17:36Or am I?
01:17:44It's 7.35, Mr. Larrabee.
01:17:46You have a dinner reservation at the Colony.
01:17:48Thank you.
01:17:51You ready, Sabrina?
01:17:53Too sweet. As they say in Paris, curtain is at 8.40.
01:17:57I used your brother's name at the Colony.
01:17:59I got you the darkest corner.
01:18:03I'm sorry, Mr. Larrabee.
01:18:16This is what you do on your very first day in Paris.
01:18:20You get yourself some rain,
01:18:22not just a drizzle, but honest-to-goodness rain.
01:18:26Then you find yourself someone really nice
01:18:28and drive her through the Bois de Boulogne in a taxi.
01:18:31The rain's very important
01:18:33because that's when Paris smells its sweetest.
01:18:37It's the damp chestnut trees, you see.
01:18:39I see.
01:18:41You're very clever, Linus, and very rich.
01:18:44You can order yourself some rain.
01:18:46Oh, sure.
01:18:48I can order myself some rain.
01:18:50I can get myself a taxi. That's easy.
01:18:54But can I find myself someone really nice?
01:18:57That's not so easy, Sabrina.
01:19:19How do you say in French,
01:19:21my sister has a yellow pencil?
01:19:25Ma soeur a un crayon jaune.
01:19:29How do you say, my brother has a lovely girl?
01:19:34Mon frère a une gentille petite amie.
01:19:38And how do you say,
01:19:40I wish my brother had a lovely girl?
01:19:44Mon frère a une gentille petite amie.
01:19:48I wish I were my brother.
01:20:19Il est entré dans mon coeur
01:20:24une part de bonheur.
01:20:27Why are you looking at me that way?
01:20:29All night long I've had the most terrible impulse to do something.
01:20:33Never resist an impulse, Sabrina,
01:20:35especially if it's terrible.
01:20:37I'm going to do it.
01:20:40There.
01:20:41What's that for?
01:20:42We can't have you walking up and down the Champs-Élysées
01:20:45looking like a tourist undertaker.
01:20:47It's the same thing.
01:20:48Never a briefcase in Paris and never an umbrella.
01:20:51There's a law.
01:20:53How am I ever going to get along in Paris without someone like you?
01:20:57Who will be there to help me with my French?
01:21:00To turn down the brim of my hat?
01:21:04Suppose you meet someone on the boat the very first day out.
01:21:07A perfect stranger.
01:21:09I have a better suppose, Sabrina.
01:21:12Suppose I were ten years younger.
01:21:15Suppose you weren't in love with David.
01:21:18Suppose I asked you to.
01:21:23I suppose I'm just talking nonsense.
01:21:29I suppose so.
01:21:33Suppose you sing that song again.
01:21:37Slowly.
01:21:39When he takes me in his arms
01:21:45And speaks to me from the bottom
01:21:49I see life in pink
01:21:55He tells me words of love
01:22:00Words of love every day
01:22:09He has entered my heart
01:22:14A part of happiness
01:22:26Hi. I thought you two were alone.
01:22:28I wouldn't mind, but not in my car.
01:22:30Hello, David.
01:22:31Did you have a good time?
01:22:32So-so.
01:22:33Where did you go?
01:22:34So-so.
01:22:35Where did you go?
01:22:36He saw the seven-year itch and I went on to the Persian room.
01:22:39Lousy dancer, isn't he?
01:22:40So-so.
01:22:41I bet he slept through half the show and then bent your ears back the rest of the evening
01:22:44with Dow Jones averages, corporate structures, excess profits taxes.
01:22:48We talked about a lot of things.
01:22:50How's your little mishap?
01:22:52Oh, shaping up beautifully.
01:22:54Dr. Calloway's so proud of the job, he wants to show it to his class at Columbia Medical School.
01:22:59Oh, I'm sorry, Sabrina.
01:23:01It's very funny.
01:23:02Oh, say, Linus, while I was lying in that hammock, I got a great idea.
01:23:06He thinks I'm an idiot.
01:23:08How does this strike you?
01:23:09Champagne glasses out of plastic, just in case.
01:23:12Oh, brilliant.
01:23:13What else did Dr. Calloway have to say?
01:23:15Stitches come out Thursday.
01:23:17Thursday?
01:23:18I'm a fast healer.
01:23:19You sure are.
01:23:20So if you two have any long-range plans.
01:23:22Oh, no, nothing long-range.
01:23:24I just thought Sabrina'd like to see the stock exchange and plant in Jersey.
01:23:28Oh, I don't think so.
01:23:30Well, then we'll just have dinner in town and go to a show.
01:23:32But that's all, brother, because come Thursday, the first team takes over.
01:23:36Hey, what's with the homburg?
01:23:42Well, I guess the undertaker better turn in.
01:23:46And you better crawl back into that hole in your hammock.
01:23:50Au revoir, Sabrina.
01:23:52Good night, Linus.
01:24:01He's a little on the dull side, isn't he?
01:24:03But you can't help liking him.
01:24:07Kiss me, David.
01:24:09I'd love to, Sabrina.
01:24:14Again?
01:24:21That's better.
01:24:22What's the matter, darling?
01:24:23You're not worried about us, are you?
01:24:24Because I'm not.
01:24:25So there'll be a big stink in the family, so who cares?
01:24:27David, I don't think I'm going to have dinner with Linus.
01:24:30I don't want to go out with him.
01:24:32Why not?
01:24:33I want to be near you.
01:24:35Oh, I know how you feel, Sabrina.
01:24:37It must be an awful bore.
01:24:38But if Linus wants to take you out, let's be nice about it.
01:24:41It's very important.
01:24:42He's our only ally.
01:24:43Don't you see, Father will try to cut off my allowance
01:24:46and send me off to Larrabee Copper and Butte, Montana.
01:24:49And we don't want to go to Butte, Montana, do we?
01:24:51Hold me close, David.
01:24:53We'll have a wonderful time, darling.
01:24:55We'll build ourselves a raft and drift across the Pacific,
01:24:58like Contiki.
01:24:59We'll climb the highest mountain, like Annapurna.
01:25:02Just the two of us.
01:25:04Keep talking, David.
01:25:06Keep talking.
01:25:14We thought of pink roses for the cherubs
01:25:16and white gardenias for the fairies.
01:25:19We thought of pink roses for the cherubs
01:25:21and white gardenias for the names.
01:25:23It'll take about 2,000 gardenias.
01:25:25We'll float the whole thing in our pool.
01:25:27Indoor or outdoor?
01:25:29Oh, outdoor, of course.
01:25:30We drained the water from the indoor pool
01:25:32to make room for the wedding presents.
01:25:33Where's the provision determining the ratio
01:25:35of invested capital to controlling interest?
01:25:37Page 62, paragraph 6, subdivision B.
01:25:40Well, Father, where's the list?
01:25:42Oh, here you are, darling.
01:25:44Would you like to see the invitation list?
01:25:49...
01:25:53...
01:25:58...
01:26:03...
01:26:08...
01:26:13This should be full of that and change it to $560,740.
01:26:18Under trust of Illinois, $500,000.
01:26:32Who are your lawyers, Linus?
01:26:33The way this merge has worked out,
01:26:35I have all the titles and you have all the controls.
01:26:37I always make it a point to have controls.
01:26:40Yeah, it's just a good luck we kids are so fond of each other.
01:26:43I always make it a point to be lucky, too.
01:26:45Come along, father.
01:26:46Oh, Linus, you won't forget the gardenias now, will you?
01:26:49Tony Lennox has the sweetest idea.
01:26:51He's gonna fly over the chapel and throw rice at us from his plane.
01:26:54With David the Bridegroom, maybe you'd better use wild rice.
01:27:11All I can say is David better show up at this wedding.
01:27:15I have a horrible vision of Elizabeth waiting at the altar
01:27:18and 2,000 gardenias floating in the pool, spelling disaster.
01:27:23A memo to Miss McArdle.
01:27:25First call Brunson and Larrabee Shipping.
01:27:27We'll be needing 2,000 gardenias.
01:27:29Tell them to start cornering the market.
01:27:31Next, I want...
01:27:32You're not having any trouble with that, that, that...
01:27:34I'm never gonna remember what I said.
01:27:36I'm not gonna remember what I said.
01:27:38You're not having any trouble with that, that, that...
01:27:39I'm never gonna remember that garage girl's name.
01:27:42Sabrina.
01:27:42Sabrina.
01:27:43What right has a chauffeur got to call his daughter Sabrina?
01:27:46What would you suggest?
01:27:47Ethel?
01:27:48You've been taking her out now three nights in a row.
01:27:50Is that situation in hand?
01:27:52Oh, I think so.
01:27:52It's resolving itself into a straight export deal.
01:27:55Next, Miss McArdle, I want two accommodations on the Liberté.
01:27:58One in the name of Miss Sabrina Fairchild.
01:28:01One in my name.
01:28:02What's this? What's this?
01:28:03You and that girl going off on a boat together?
01:28:05Spawned two idiot sons?
01:28:08Who said I was going?
01:28:09She is going because she'll think that I'm going,
01:28:11but I'm not really going.
01:28:12Is that clear?
01:28:13It is not.
01:28:15I'm going to tell Sabrina that I'll meet her on the boat.
01:28:17When the boat is ten miles out at sea,
01:28:19she'll find out that I'm not on the boat.
01:28:22My cabin will be empty, just a note of apology
01:28:24and a few presents to soften the blow.
01:28:26Excellent.
01:28:27Yes, I thought you'd like it.
01:28:29Next, Miss McArdle, I want flowers in Miss Fairchild's cabin.
01:28:33Candy, fruit, and the usual what-have-yous.
01:28:36Next, cable Michaud to get her a car in Paris, also an apartment.
01:28:40Next, a letter of credit on our Paris bank.
01:28:42She can draw up to 50,000.
01:28:44Easy now.
01:28:45Next, transfer to Thomas Fairchild 1,000 shares Larrabee Commons.
01:28:501,000 shares?
01:28:52Make it 1,500 shares, Larrabee Preferred.
01:28:55Seems to me there ought to be a less extravagant way
01:28:57of getting a shoofer's daughter out of one's hair.
01:28:59How would you do it?
01:29:00You can't even get a little olive out of a jar.
01:29:03Eat it.
01:29:34Going up?
01:29:37No, thank you.
01:30:04Yes?
01:30:05It's Fairchild for you, Mr. Larrabee.
01:30:07Send her in.
01:30:08She's on the phone.
01:30:09Take it on five.
01:30:14Sabrina?
01:30:15What happened to you?
01:30:16It's 20 past eight.
01:30:17Good evening, Linus.
01:30:19I know I'm late.
01:30:20I guess maybe I should have called you earlier.
01:30:23I can't see you.
01:30:24I can't see you.
01:30:25I can't see you.
01:30:26I can't see you.
01:30:27I can't see you.
01:30:28I can't see you.
01:30:29I can't see you.
01:30:30I can't see you.
01:30:31I can't see you.
01:30:32I can't see you tonight.
01:30:34I'm very sorry.
01:30:35I just can't make it.
01:30:36I tried, but I'm all tied up.
01:30:39No, I'm not in Long Island.
01:30:40I'm in New York.
01:30:43Downtown in a phone booth.
01:30:45In a building.
01:30:48What difference does it make what building, Linus?
01:30:51I can't see you tonight.
01:30:54Oh, all right.
01:30:55It's the Larrabee building, but I'm not coming up.
01:30:58Now, look, Sabrina.
01:31:00Suppose you tell me exactly what's on your mind.
01:31:03Slowly and clearly.
01:31:05You talk, and I'll listen.
01:31:10Well, you see, it was really David's idea I go out with you
01:31:12because he wants you to help him.
01:31:14But the trouble is, it's not helping me any.
01:31:16I shouldn't have been seeing you, Linus.
01:31:18I shouldn't even be talking to you on the phone.
01:31:21In fact, I'm really only calling to say goodbye
01:31:23because tomorrow you'll be on the boat to Paris.
01:31:27In a way, I'm glad you're going.
01:31:30You do know what I mean, don't you, Linus?
01:31:32Linus?
01:31:34Hello, Linus?
01:31:36Where are you, Linus?
01:31:40Your three minutes are up.
01:31:42Oh, hello.
01:31:44Isn't it silly?
01:31:46I was talking to myself.
01:31:48You wasted a dime, too.
01:31:50Come on.
01:31:53You're not angry with me, are you?
01:31:55Of course not.
01:31:56I have a perfectly good reason why I shouldn't see you tonight.
01:31:58Not here, Sabrina.
01:32:01Not here.
01:32:14All right, Sabrina.
01:32:17What is that perfectly good reason why you shouldn't see me?
01:32:30What is it?
01:32:32What's bothering you?
01:32:34It's me that's bothering me.
01:32:41Please don't.
01:32:44I'm sorry.
01:32:49I know I'm not making much sense, Linus.
01:32:52Would you like a drink?
01:32:54I don't think I want a drink.
01:32:56I think I do.
01:33:01Why don't you sit down?
01:33:03I can only stay a minute.
01:33:05Mind if I turn on just this little one?
01:33:07If you want.
01:33:13I'd hate to fix myself a martini with creme de menthe.
01:33:22Yes?
01:33:23I've canceled your dinner reservation, Mr. Larrabee.
01:33:25What about the theater tickets?
01:33:27Oh, I couldn't possibly go anywhere.
01:33:31They're all yours, Miss McArdle.
01:33:33Good night.
01:33:39You sure you won't have even one?
01:33:41No, thanks.
01:33:43You must be hungry.
01:33:45I hadn't thought about it.
01:33:47I'm starved.
01:33:49I was sort of saving myself for 21 tonight.
01:33:53I've spoiled your evening, haven't I?
01:33:55No, you haven't.
01:33:56We can have dinner right here.
01:33:58Let's see what Miss McArdle is hoarding.
01:34:00Probably maraschino cherries and stale crackers.
01:34:05Tomato juice.
01:34:07Puffed rice, sardines.
01:34:09Tomato juice, tomato juice, tomato juice.
01:34:11That's an awful lot of tomato juice.
01:34:13You suppose you can fix something out of all this?
01:34:15I suppose so.
01:34:16I'm a graduate cook, you know.
01:34:18I have a diploma.
01:34:19Oh, it'll take a diploma.
01:34:22I wanted to be so sure I couldn't go out with you tonight.
01:34:27And here I am cooking for you.
01:34:30I guess maybe I should have worn an apron.
01:34:33One apron coming up.
01:34:36Pots, pans, can opener.
01:34:40I suppose so.
01:34:42I suppose so.
01:34:44I suppose so.
01:34:46I suppose so.
01:34:48Pots, pans, can opener.
01:34:51Stove.
01:34:53All the comforts of home.
01:34:55You know, Miss McArdle once cooked dinner here for the board of directors.
01:34:59After the first course, there was a move to adjourn.
01:35:01It was passed unanimously.
01:35:10What do we start with?
01:35:13I haven't decided yet.
01:35:18Now, Sabrina.
01:35:20Let's have none of those.
01:35:26I'm so ashamed, Linus.
01:35:28You have no reason to be.
01:35:31I've known you only a few days.
01:35:33Just a few days, really.
01:35:35And I've been in love with David all my life.
01:35:40I can't understand what's the matter with me.
01:35:44I went away to grow up and I thought I had grown up.
01:35:47I guess I haven't, really.
01:35:50Just got myself a new hairdo, that's all.
01:35:56Please say something.
01:35:58Like what?
01:36:00I don't know.
01:36:02Tell me I'm imagining things.
01:36:05Tell me you never even thought of taking me on the boat to Paris with you.
01:36:09Tell me to put on my coat and go home before I make a complete fool of myself.
01:36:17But don't let me go home.
01:36:18I couldn't bear it.
01:36:21This is the last time we're going to see each other.
01:36:27Well, behave, Linus. I'm all right now.
01:36:29That's good.
01:36:30Now, how about dinner?
01:36:32I just remembered I didn't have any lunch today.
01:36:34You didn't?
01:36:35Or any breakfast, either.
01:36:37I may account for a lot of things.
01:36:40Would you like a souffle for dessert?
01:36:42Out of tomato juice?
01:36:44Out of crackers, of course.
01:36:46Not too soggy, huh?
01:36:48You'd better get out of the kitchen.
01:37:08Which one is the Liberté?
01:37:11Oh, the one on the right.
01:37:12Are you sure?
01:37:14You mustn't take the wrong boat.
01:37:16I'll try not to.
01:37:18You haven't forgotten my instructions, have you?
01:37:21Never an umbrella in Paris,
01:37:23and under all circumstances,
01:37:25never to be seen again.
01:37:28I'm sorry.
01:37:29I'm sorry.
01:37:30I'm sorry.
01:37:31I'm sorry.
01:37:32I'm sorry.
01:37:33I'm sorry.
01:37:34I'm sorry.
01:37:35Never an umbrella in Paris,
01:37:37and under all circumstances,
01:37:38rain the very first day.
01:37:40I haven't forgotten a word, Sabrina.
01:37:43My sister has a yellow pencil.
01:37:45Ma soeur a un crayon jaune.
01:37:48Very good.
01:37:49Très bien.
01:37:51Watch.
01:37:52One, two, three.
01:37:54Crack.
01:37:56New egg.
01:37:57It's all in the wrist.
01:38:06There must be an egg beater somewhere.
01:38:31Linus.
01:38:35Linus.
01:38:48Linus, why didn't you tell me?
01:38:50You do want to take me with you, don't you?
01:39:00These don't mean what you think they mean.
01:39:02I know why you didn't tell me,
01:39:03because you think it's wrong.
01:39:04They'll say I'm too young for you.
01:39:05There'll be an awful scandal,
01:39:06and the market will go down.
01:39:09Linus Larrabee Esquire is taking me to Paris.
01:39:15Sabrina.
01:39:17I...
01:39:18I wasn't going to take you to Paris.
01:39:21I was going to send you.
01:39:26Alone?
01:39:27Yes.
01:39:28All alone.
01:39:34But there's a ticket for you.
01:39:36For an empty cabin.
01:39:39You were joining me in Paris, is that it?
01:39:41I'm afraid not.
01:39:50I think I understand.
01:39:52I'm sorry.
01:39:55But why?
01:39:57Why did you do it, Linus?
01:39:59High finance, expansion, a marriage, a merger,
01:40:02a new plaque on the Larrabee building, you got in the way.
01:40:05David.
01:40:06That's right.
01:40:11How inconsiderate of me.
01:40:14And how inconvenient for you.
01:40:17Such a busy man having to waste so much time
01:40:19just to get me on a boat.
01:40:22I'm ashamed to say I enjoyed every minute of it.
01:40:27And I suppose in your empty cabin
01:40:29there would have been a farewell note
01:40:31dictated to and typed by Miss McArdle.
01:40:36Perhaps a few flowers.
01:40:38A little more than that.
01:40:50A letter of credit, apartment in Paris, a car.
01:40:54Fifteen hundred shares of Larrabee preferred for your father.
01:40:57You're very generous.
01:40:59We regard it as a necessary business expense.
01:41:04I'll just take one of those tickets.
01:41:10I was happy in Paris.
01:41:14I think you would have been too.
01:41:27Good night, Mr. Larrabee.
01:41:31I'm sorry I can't stay to do the dishes.
01:41:33Good morning.
01:41:34Good morning.
01:41:35Good morning.
01:41:36Good morning.
01:41:37Good morning.
01:41:38Good morning.
01:41:42Good morning.
01:41:43Good morning.
01:41:44Good morning.
01:41:45Good morning.
01:41:46Good morning.
01:41:47Good morning.
01:41:48Good morning.
01:41:49Good morning.
01:41:50Good morning.
01:41:51Good morning.
01:41:52Good morning.
01:41:53Good morning.
01:41:54Good morning.
01:41:55Good morning.
01:41:56Good morning.
01:41:57Good morning.
01:41:58Good morning.
01:41:59Good morning.
01:42:00Good morning.
01:42:03Good morning.
01:42:17Mr. Larrabee?
01:42:19Come in, Miss McArdle.
01:42:21Good morning.
01:42:22Good morning.
01:42:23You're late.
01:42:24I had to make my own coffee.
01:42:25Worst ever.
01:42:26I'm sorry.
01:42:27I had a very bad night last night.
01:42:28I know exactly how you feel.
01:42:30But you better get that pad.
01:42:33I've got things to do.
01:42:34I used your theater tickets and took my mother.
01:42:36You ready?
01:42:37Yes.
01:42:38First, call Larrabee Shipping.
01:42:39Tell them to radio all our tankers bound for Puerto Rico to turn back.
01:42:42Next, call Larrabee Construction.
01:42:44Tell them to stop work on the new plant.
01:42:46We're canceling the Larrabee Plastics merger.
01:42:49We are?
01:42:50Next, I want Mr. Larrabee Sr., Mr. Tyson, Miss Elizabeth Tyson here in this office as soon as possible.
01:42:56You better have a large bottle of smelling sauce around.
01:42:58We're calling off the wedding.
01:43:00We are?
01:43:01When's your mother's birthday?
01:43:02Why?
01:43:03I'm sending her 2,000 gardenias.
01:43:05Here's a ticket for the Liberté.
01:43:06Have it transferred to the name of Mr. David Larrabee.
01:43:09You better get his passport out and make sure it's in order.
01:43:12Next, see if you can locate David.
01:43:13The boat sails at noon.
01:43:15I've been calling the house for an hour and he isn't there.
01:43:18Try Dr. Calloway.
01:43:19Try everywhere, but get him.
01:43:21Do you still want me to send all those presents to Miss Fairchild's cabin?
01:43:24No, we're sending David instead.
01:43:27Good morning.
01:43:29You'll be happy to hear the stitches are out.
01:43:31It's as good as new.
01:43:32Congratulations.
01:43:33I've been looking for you.
01:43:35And I've been looking for you.
01:43:37You're leaving for Paris today.
01:43:38It's all arranged.
01:43:39No kidding.
01:43:41With Sabrina.
01:43:42She's going to be on the boat.
01:43:44Uh-huh.
01:43:47She have to be in here?
01:43:48All right, Mr. McCartley, you've got a lot of work to do.
01:43:51Aren't you pleased with the news?
01:43:53What's the matter with you?
01:43:54I saw Sabrina when she came home last night.
01:43:56Oh?
01:43:57Mm-hmm. Found her packing.
01:43:59What'd she say?
01:44:00Nothing. She just kissed me.
01:44:02What's wrong with that?
01:44:03Well, I may know nothing about Dow Jones averages, but I do know something about kisses.
01:44:07Yes, you could lecture on that at Vassar.
01:44:10This one tasted like a goodbye kiss.
01:44:12Ah, you're just imagining things.
01:44:14No, had a few tears in it.
01:44:19I'm not very bright.
01:44:20Took me until this morning to add two and two together,
01:44:22like two champagne glasses and the plastic steel and Sabrina.
01:44:26You know what I got?
01:44:27What?
01:44:31Sorry to do it to a tired businessman.
01:44:33Well, that's all right.
01:44:36Well, now we're even.
01:44:40Suppose you go on home and start packing. I'll take care of Elizabeth.
01:44:43I'm calling off the merger at the board meeting.
01:44:45Miss McCartley will have your passport and your ticket.
01:44:47Let her know if you need any money.
01:44:49I want you and Sabrina to have a good time in Paris.
01:44:52Goodbye.
01:44:53What makes you so sure Sabrina still wants me?
01:44:56Of course she wants you. She's wanted you all her life.
01:44:58Until you came along in that silly Hamburg.
01:45:00Well, suppose you straighten that silly straw hat and on your way, you'll miss the boat.
01:45:05Don't worry. I won't miss the boat.
01:45:07I'm going.
01:45:10Funniest thing.
01:45:12Linus Larrabee, the man who doesn't burn, doesn't scorch, doesn't melt,
01:45:15suddenly throws a $20 million deal out the window.
01:45:18Are you sure you don't want to go with her?
01:45:20Why should I want to go with her?
01:45:23Because you're in love with her.
01:45:34You won't be annoyed if I cry at the boat, will you, Sabrina?
01:45:37I'll be disappointed if you don't, father.
01:45:40I'd feel so much better if only you'd be angry with me for allowing all this to happen.
01:45:44It wasn't your fault.
01:45:47I should have believed you.
01:45:49There's a front seat and a back seat.
01:45:51And a window in between.
01:45:55If there's any consolation, one good thing's come out of it anyway.
01:45:58You did get over David, didn't you?
01:46:01Dear David, yes, I did get over that.
01:46:04I'm cured.
01:46:07Now, how to get over that?
01:46:09I'll tell you how.
01:46:11I did get over that. I'm cured.
01:46:15Now, how to get over the cure?
01:46:19It wouldn't have worked out really, darling.
01:46:22The papers and everybody else would have said how fine and democratic for a Larabee to marry the chauffeur's daughter.
01:46:27But would they praise the chauffeur's daughter? No.
01:46:31Democracy can be a wickedly unfair thing, Sabrina.
01:46:35Nobody poor was ever called democratic for marrying somebody rich.
01:46:42¶¶
01:47:04Why don't we stop this meeting and sign the papers?
01:47:07We're waiting for David, of course.
01:47:09Yes, we're waiting for David. That boy has no sense of time, no sense of direction.
01:47:13As a matter of fact, he has no sense.
01:47:15Where is he, Linus?
01:47:16We'll get to that in a minute.
01:47:19Here are the smelling salts, Mr. Larabee. I got you the largest size.
01:47:23¶¶
01:47:27Linus, look what I brought him for Waikiki Beach.
01:47:30I hope they're loud enough.
01:47:33I hope they're returnable.
01:47:35¶¶
01:47:44Well, gentlemen, I see no need for any further delay.
01:47:47Suppose we get down to business.
01:47:48But what about David?
01:47:49Yes, what about David?
01:47:50That's a very good question.
01:47:52Not yet.
01:47:54Mr. Tyson, members of the board.
01:47:56Are you with us, Father?
01:47:59Present.
01:48:00Present.
01:48:03As you know, gentlemen, we are here today to put our signatures to the Larabee-Tyson merger.
01:48:08Much effort has gone into making this union possible.
01:48:11Long hours.
01:48:12Many obstacles to overcome.
01:48:15Nobody knows better than I.
01:48:17However...
01:48:19Not yet.
01:48:21However, sometimes even the most conscientious of businessmen can botch up a deal.
01:48:26For one reason or another.
01:48:28Understand, I...
01:48:29I don't mean to say that our merger has hit a snag.
01:48:33Or failed to gel.
01:48:35Or gone up in smoke.
01:48:36Or fallen through.
01:48:38Let me put it this way, gentlemen.
01:48:41It has sailed away.
01:48:42¶¶
01:48:46I seem to have missed something here.
01:48:48Would you mind starting all over again?
01:48:50No, Mr. McArdle.
01:48:53Elizabeth, I hate to have to break the news to you.
01:48:55But at this very moment, your fiancé, Mr. David Larabee...
01:48:57Is late as usual.
01:49:04Hello, everybody.
01:49:05Hello, darling.
01:49:07Hello, Linus. How are you?
01:49:08What are you doing here?
01:49:11I heard there was a board meeting going on.
01:49:13Where are the contracts? Where do I sign?
01:49:15Where's Sabrina?
01:49:16Sabrina? Who's Sabrina?
01:49:18That name. That name.
01:49:20She's on the boat, I guess.
01:49:21But the boat has sailed.
01:49:24And there she goes.
01:49:25Who goes?
01:49:26Sabrina.
01:49:27Who is Sabrina?
01:49:28Why did you do it?
01:49:30Do what?
01:49:31She's all alone out there.
01:49:33Not according to the afternoon papers.
01:49:36It says here that Linus Larabee...
01:49:37That's you, isn't it?
01:49:38And Sabrina Fairchild...
01:49:39That's she, isn't it?
01:49:40Have quietly reserved adjacent deck chairs...
01:49:43On the Liberté sailing today.
01:49:45All colonists should be beaten to a pulp...
01:49:47And converted back into paper.
01:49:49Did you plant this?
01:49:50Me?
01:49:51I thought it was common knowledge about you and Sabrina.
01:49:54Who is Sabrina?
01:49:56Our chauffeur's daughter.
01:49:58That's who she is.
01:49:59Now, how about that, gentlemen?
01:50:01Linus Larabee.
01:50:02Wizard of finance.
01:50:03Man of distinction.
01:50:04Chairman of the board of Larabee Industries.
01:50:06Getting mixed up with his chauffeur's daughter.
01:50:08That's enough, David.
01:50:10She went after me for a while...
01:50:11But then she switched to Linus.
01:50:13I guess it's because he's got more money.
01:50:16Now, we all know about those kind of girls.
01:50:18And believe me, gentlemen...
01:50:19This one is no different.
01:50:20Just seems to be.
01:50:21I said that's enough.
01:50:23Maybe you got smart, Linus.
01:50:25Or maybe you just got lucky.
01:50:27Because you're here...
01:50:28And she's out there.
01:50:30Brother, she would have taken you for plenty.
01:50:37I was just helping you make up your mind.
01:50:40You are in love with her.
01:50:45Well, what are you waiting for?
01:50:47There's an elevator outside...
01:50:48A police escort downstairs...
01:50:49And a tugboat standing by at the Larabee pier.
01:50:53Get moving!
01:50:55Well, if you'll excuse me, gentlemen...
01:50:57It appears I have a previous engagement.
01:51:00That's the 20th century for you!
01:51:02Automobiles! Garages!
01:51:04Chauffeurs! Chauffeurs! Daughters!
01:51:12Inasmuch as I seem to be the only man...
01:51:14Inasmuch as I seem to be the only member of the Larabee family...
01:51:18Who is not completely out of his mind...
01:51:20I will take it upon myself to call this meeting back to order...
01:51:23As soon as David Larabee removes his carcass from this table.
01:51:28Sit down, father.
01:51:33The olives!
01:51:44The olives!
01:52:14The olives!
01:52:25Mr. Charles, there is a gentleman on the boat...
01:52:28Who would like you to arrange his hat.
01:52:31Here you are.
01:52:43Thank you very much.
