00:00The Pakistan players stunned, and India would believe they've gone out of a corner.
00:06Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at the T20 World Cup matches that have stood the test of time.
00:12Since the World 2020 shares the same history before its rebranding as the Men's T20 World Cup,
00:18every match since its 2007 edition has been considered.
00:21Here's the first ball, it's a miss hit, it's a miss hit!
00:25Playing on home turf and with momentum on their side, the Indian team's spot in the final was all but secured.
00:40However, they ran into a mercurial West Indian lineup that blew them away.
00:46But not good enough. Dwayne Bravo has snatched it on the boundary edge.
00:52The home team's batting couldn't have gone any better.
00:55In contrast, the West Indies' innings couldn't have been worse,
00:58as heavy hitters like Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels were dismissed cheaply.
01:02Unfortunately for the crowd, this was as far as they would celebrate.
01:07Nicely played, and that's 50 for Charles.
01:11Rallying in ways India could never anticipate, the West Indian batsmen proceeded to clobber the ball all around the ground.
01:18It didn't matter what the field setting was,
01:20as Lendl Simmons and company shell-shocked the hosts out of the tournament and landed straight into the finals.
01:26Game over! Game over!
01:29Andre Russell has launched it into the stands!
01:34And the West Indies have upset India!
01:44Much like India in the previous entry,
01:46their arch-rivals Pakistan suffered an astonishing defeat in 2010.
01:50Defying expectations, Pakistan racked up a huge target against much fancied Australia.
02:05At the time, no team had ever chased a larger target against the Pakistanis,
02:10and a third consecutive final was in sight.
02:12With most of their team in the dugout, the Australians seemed done and dusted.
02:16And just then, Michael Hussey decided to unleash his fury.
02:29No matter which delivery he faced, Hussey found the boundary time and again.
02:33Pakistan never recovered from the shift in momentum, particularly in the last over.
02:38Try as he might, bowler Syed Ajmal had no answer for Hussey,
02:42who scored an incredible 23 off 5 deliveries to see his side home.
03:00Matches that go down the wire are always exciting,
03:03even more so when a spot in the semis is on the line.
03:09Another good over, shaping up here for India.
03:12This is a very good partnership, great foundation here laid down for India in a critical game.
03:17Both teams needed a win to remain in contention, bringing all they had to go the distance.
03:23India put up a respectable total with the bat, which their bowlers were geared up to defend.
03:28The target seemed all too big for the Lankans after losing early wickets.
03:33Well, the Indians cock a hoop at this stage, both the openers dismissed.
03:37But cricket isn't a see-saw game for nothing, and the team came roaring back in the last 5 overs.
03:43Thanks to a spectacular partnership between Angelo Matthews and Chamara Kapogedra,
03:48Sri Lanka seized control out of nowhere.
03:51The wild scenes in the match's final overs are still memorable,
03:54as the Lankans simultaneously entered the semis and sent India packing.
03:59Magnificently finished, what a hit this, he can run all the way to the dressing room.
04:07Have a look at the Sri Lankan players as they come out.
04:11What a finish to this contest, what a shot.
04:20In arguably the biggest David vs Goliath match in T20 World Cup history,
04:25the Netherlands proved that anything is possible.
04:33No one gave the Dutch a shot, yet they ran away with the most professional of chases the tournament has seen.
04:39The English innings began as expected, with the openers setting a solid platform.
04:44Although the team lost its way a bit to score 162, it looked well past the Netherlands grasp.
04:56Good finish, and so 20 overs gone, England got 162 for 5.
05:00However, the latter made their bid for victory without ever being intimidated.
05:05Rather than employing a do-or-die model, the Dutch batsmen cut away at the target by rotating the strike.
05:11It didn't seem possible until it was, as the Netherlands created history at the expense of their European neighbors.
05:17Seward Broad stops it, doesn't get the direct hit, he's coming back for the second.
05:21Would you believe it? Overthrow gives Netherlands a win!
05:32On their day, Pakistan can bring down any team in the world.
05:36Fortunately for them, they brought their world-beating mentality in the 2009 semifinal.
05:41Facing undefeated South Africa, Pakistan tapped into their bowling ability to stifle the opposition out of the tournament.
05:48With their varied pace and spin attack, Pakistan denied South Africa any chance to get the run rate going.
05:54Halfway through, the target began looking like an insurmountable climb.
05:58Still, the battle between the Proteus' solid lineup and Pakistan's unpredictability went into the final over.
06:05Although South Africa briefly threatened to flip the script, their opponents rode too high on their winning momentum.
06:11Another semifinal, another South Africa defeat.
06:14Yet they became part of one of the most memorable knockout matches in the tournament's history.
06:25During the 2010s, Bangladesh and India engaged in multiple classics.
06:30This match is arguably the best of the bunch.
06:33Having come close to beating their rivals before, it looked like Bangladesh was finally going to win.
06:38Until the last three deliveries.
06:40The topsy-turvy affair swung in both teams' favor several times, leaving no clear victor in sight.
06:51In the last over though, Bangladesh unsettled India with consecutive boundaries that put them in the draw.
06:58Too bad this is when the wheels came off.
07:00With Batsman looking for the glory shot, and because of MS Dhoni's impeccable field setting,
07:04the Bangladeshis fell agonizingly short by one run.
07:17Neither the winners nor the losers could believe it.
07:19But it was the Indians who went home happy.
07:28There's nothing quite like a low-scoring thriller.
07:34With little to separate the teams, New Zealand and West Indies delivered just that.
07:43The Windies' innings never got going, with none of the Batsmen converting their starts.
07:47For New Zealand, Ross Taylor was the lone wolf who nearly saw things through.
07:52But you can never write the West Indians off, especially during moments of pressure.
07:57Despite wickets in the bag, the Kiwis succumbed to Sunil Narine and company, as the match went into a super over.
08:12Despite racking up 17 runs, the Kiwis couldn't handle the Windies' ruthless aggression,
08:17as Darren Sammysman steamrolled through the target and finished the match in raptures.
08:27They take the spoils. Chris Gayle's got a smile on his face.
08:30In retrospect, the win hinted at the title run that the Windies would eventually complete.
08:43India has famously dominated Pakistan in World Cups.
08:46However, the latter side has come within inches of success.
08:50In this Super 12s match, Pakistan were in the driver's seat.
08:57After putting up an impressive total, the Bullers dismantled India's top order with ease.
09:03A surprisingly clinical Pakistan win was on the cards, but Virat Kohli had other plans.
09:13The champion Batsman kept his cool while his teammates fell, before going on the attack in the final overs.
09:19Even so, Pakistan remained in the game, as either side could have stolen the win.
09:24It came down to the team that held its nerve,
09:26and India's winning runs put the finishing touches to an absolute thriller.
09:48The West Indies might not usually reach the finals,
09:50but they're an absolute force when they do.
09:57In a match that England clawed their way back multiple times,
10:00the Windies had an answer for everything.
10:03After braving through some tight bowling,
10:05England managed to turn the tables on their opponents.
10:14Marlon Samuel's one-man show guided the Windies into the last over.
10:19But if there's one player who completely changed the game,
10:22it was Carlos Brathwaite.
10:24With clean hitting that delivered the knockout punch to England,
10:27Brathwaite pummeled each ball for a six.
10:30Fittingly, a match that turned up one surprise after another
10:34had the biggest one waiting for fans' entertainment.
10:38Carlos Brathwaite! Carlos Brathwaite!
10:42Remember the name! History for the West Indies!

11:08The T20 game would never have reached the heights it has without this match.
11:12After crashing out of the 50-over World Cup,
11:15India and Pakistan made the inaugural World 2020 one for the ages.
11:26After starting with a burst,
11:27the Indian team was subdued to an average total by Pakistan's bowlers.
11:31In response, the Pakistanis capitulated to MS Dhoni's tactics,
11:35which instigated a spectacular collapse.
11:42Batsman Misbahul Haque nearly plucked victory from the jaws of defeat,
11:46single-handedly leading Pakistan within inches of the target.
11:50Unfortunately, his mistimed scoop spelled doom for his team
11:54as the final wicket fell to crown India the first-ever T20 champions.
12:00There may have been one official winner,
12:03but a match of this quality ensured that the T20 format was here to stay.
