00:00Let's get to this, that Woj Bomb yesterday, which wasn't really a Woj Bomb, and did we
00:07anticipate this maybe a month ago?
00:09J.J.
00:10Reddick four-year contract to coach the Los Angeles Lakers.
00:13When this news finally, Coach, came down yesterday, what was your thought process with the Lakers
00:18and J.J.
00:19Reddick?
00:20First thing was the size of the years of the contract.
00:24I mean, last week they offered Dan Hurley six years.
00:27They offered J.J. four years, which let's be honest, folks, it's really a three-year
00:32deal because at the end of the day, you're never going to be a lame duck coach.
00:36You either get extended or you get fired.
00:38It's really a three-year deal.
00:40To me, when you look at it, it's kind of ironic that what happened in Detroit with Monty and
00:46Monty being let go, and there's rumors that maybe Detroit was going to think about coming
00:50in and swooping in on Reddick, and that people like Udonis Haslam went on, get up and said
00:55they should be calling Monty to maybe coach the Lakers, and then all of a sudden, as soon
00:59as it happened, there was a deal done.
01:01Like literally like that minute.
01:03So maybe it pushed the Lakers to finally make this decision.
01:07Is it the right decision?
01:08To me, it's going to be about Donnie, the staff that you surrounded on J.J. Reddick,
01:12folks.
01:13You got to simply put, J.J.
01:15Reddick has never sat on the bench as even an assistant coach in the NBA.
01:20Now, listen, I get it.
01:23When he talks on ESPN, he's by far the most articulate guy on the network talking basketball.
01:29He understands the modern game, right?
01:31He's got great relationships with the players, which will help him not only with LeBron,
01:37but maybe in getting in free agents, so on and so forth.
01:40But to me, you're going to have to surround him, Donnie, with an all-star staff.
01:45You got to get guys that have head coaching experience, right, to sit on the bench with
01:50him.
01:51And then you got to get guys that also are high-level assistants.
01:54So you've already saw names.
01:56Jared Dudley.
01:57You know, you looked at Sam Cassell, is someone that's already been mentioned.
02:02So you're going to try and get the best staff possible for J.J. to help him with all the
02:08X's and O's and all the extra stuff that he may not be ready for.
02:13Because I'll tell you this much, it doesn't matter how long you've been on a bench, it
02:17is a huge jump to go to the head coaching job.
02:21Now imagine doing it, Donnie, and never even being an assistant first.
