00:00President made two weeks ago. Yes, Catholic bishops are urging the president to reverse course on that. They say quote
00:07imposing arbitrary limits on asylum access and curtailing due process
00:11Will only empower and embolden those who seek to exploit the most vulnerable and quote your response to that
00:18Like, you know, I'm Catholic. I
00:21Listen to the bishops on many issues and this is one that I do agree with a lot
00:26But today we're not here to talk about asylum we're talking here to talk about
00:31Kids getting their fair shot and being able to reach the american dream keeping families together
00:36I think that that's one issue that we can continue to work on and I think the questions will be open to doing that
00:42And remember there's transfers involved too. It's uh, uh, we can keep watching
00:49I have a question for you about the problem. I'm, sorry. Go ahead. Thank you. Um a question about the politics of this president
00:55Biden is struggling with progressives, especially young progressives. Do you think this will help?
01:00Well, I think that this is going to help people across the country to see that we are making the fixes to the
01:06Immigration system that the president is able to make that's within his power
01:10Let's not forget what veronica said that it's our colleagues across the aisle that have been clearly stopping us from
01:17Any progress on humane immigration reform that president introduced a bill on day one
01:22And so yes, I think today
01:24There are people across the country half a million people across the country who are going to see president
01:29Joe, biden keep their families together. It gives us hope
01:33I know I had tears in my eyes when I was listening to javier speak because there are 500 000 javier's across this country who
01:40Today have hope because of what president joe biden did so I think it absolutely helps every little piece helps as we're putting together
01:48The winning coalition that will re-elect joe biden to the white house
01:52We'll put house democrats back in power in the house and we'll make sure that we keep the senate and that we ultimately pass humane
02:01Reforms that modernize our immigration system that contribute to our economy and that keep families together
02:10I have
02:18I heard you last week talked about families. Of course, we have a large number of
02:24Immigrants who are in the military. I wonder if you can since you can have your hands in multiple things concerning these topics
02:32I wonder if you can um express a tie-in
02:35between families
02:37I I heard a story years ago about for example a woman who was sent back to her native country
02:42She was married to a man in the military. So is there can you just do a tie-in on the impact?
02:48those folks in the military for this change
02:51Yeah, absolutely
02:52So we know that u.s that there are u.s citizens who have married undocumented spouses
03:00Who are unable to adjust their status because of draconian policies that were passed in the 1990s
03:07And and those policies that prevented even a judge from adjudicating the case
03:14Even the opportunity for these families to fight their case on a case-by-case basis those draconian changes
03:21Basically are keeping families apart
03:24Making some families live in the shadows and we know that some of these families even are members of the united states military
03:32It is a fundamental value in the united states
03:36I believe we believe the president believes to keep our families together and we know that many of
03:43These individuals are incredibly patriotic
03:46And want to just fight for a shot for their family members whether they are a member of the u.s
03:52Military or not and they deserve that shot. They deserve to be able to adjudicate their case
03:57They deserve to be able to plead their case and be given an opportunity on a case-by-case basis
04:04We invest tremendously in the united states military. You mentioned my work on armed services and the ntaa
04:11We know for a fact that many immigrants are members of the united states military
04:17So this is why it's important for congress to do the right thing and get to work and rectify these injustices
04:24We are all applauding the president's executive order. It should not take executive action
04:31Because we have a legislative body known as the united states congress
04:35We need to do our job
04:36But in with republican obstruction in the absence of having a functioning congress
04:43The president has no other choice but to work on addressing these injustices through executive order
04:50And we're all very proud of him and bring over him. I think that's it. Thank you guys
04:55We're going to bring out some stakeholders next
