00:00According to data from the Office for National Statistics, in April 2020, around 46.6%
00:07of employees in the UK did at least part of their job from home. Following the COVID pandemic,
00:12working from home seems partially ingrained into Britain's culture, but does it continue
00:17to serve employees in the way we'd expect? Well, in Microsoft's 2022 New Future of Work report,
00:23researchers found that whilst remote working may improve job flexibility and satisfaction,
00:28it can lead to employees feeling socially isolated, guilty and trying to overcompensate.
00:34This comes as the research found that remote workers put in longer hours at their desk.
00:40Almost 80% of UK workers said that working from home has negatively impacted their mental health.
00:46Further, it seems as though working from home can also impact future job prospects,
00:51as it was reported in post-COVID research that people who work from home are less likely to
00:55get pay rises and promotions. So, with that in mind, does working from home continue to
01:00benefit us as a nation, or does it harbour our wellbeing more than we realise?
