00:00Hello, I'm Neil from the Evening News. Today we visited Lannan Bakery in Stockbridge, which
00:06was recently voted one of the best new bakeries at the World Pastry Awards.
00:11Since it opened in July last year, there's been a lot of hype about the small bakery
00:14on Hamilton Place, with people reported to have queued for up to two hours to get a pastry.
00:20And after visiting this morning, it was clear to see Lannan Bakery is still extremely popular.
00:25There was already a queue of about 30 people at quarter to eight, which probably increased
00:29to around 80 by the time it opened at 8am.
00:33So we've got a selection of pastries here, let's see what all the fuss is about.
00:38So first up we have arguably one of the most famous pastries, the croissant. Like many
00:43watching this, I've had hundreds of croissants, but this one really is a work of art. I'm
00:48not sure if that's coming through on camera, but there's some really beautiful textures
00:53on the top there. Let's have a try.
01:02So I'm not going to eat the full thing, because I've got a few to get through here, but yeah,
01:06very nice, very fresh, it's got a beautiful glaze on the top, and a really good crunch.
01:11So up next, quite a creative one, we have the Nduja Honey Bun. This isn't one I was
01:16expecting to find this morning, I wouldn't normally associate a spicy sausage paste to
01:21be infused with honey in a pastry, but here we go. I've also decided I'm not going to
01:26eat every single one on camera.
01:28So that was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommending the Nduja Honey Bun. The spicy and sweet flavours
01:36work really well together, just really beautiful aftertaste as well. I've cut it in half so
01:43you can have a look inside. Yeah, so far we've only done two, but this is winning. Nduja
01:50Honey Bun, highly recommend.
01:53Sticking with savoury, now we have a smoked ham and cheddar pastry. So this was very nice,
02:01very filling, but also very light at the same time. Everything so far has had a really nice
02:07crunch to it, but it's also very soft inside, so very good combo there.
02:13Last but not least is the cinnamon croissant. This one didn't travel so well in the car,
02:18so I'll cut to a picture of it now as it looked in the bakery. And the cinnamon croissant
02:23has a sheep's yoghurt and white chocolate cremeux on the top. So this one really is
02:30a work of art. The yoghurt and white chocolate cremeux on the top is absolutely incredible
02:37and it really completes the cinnamon bun. That's probably one of the best sweet pastries
02:43I've had in a very long time.
02:45So that concludes our taste test for Lannan Bakery in Edinburgh, which was recently crowned
02:50one of the best new bakeries at the World Pastry Awards. When you go to Lannan you'll
02:54find an extraordinary selection of sweet and sour pastries, so definitely worth checking
02:59out. My top tips would be get there early because there more than likely will be a queue
03:04and they are known to sell out a range of pastries during the day, and grab yourself
03:09a Nduja Honey Bun. You will not regret it.
