Inside Ryhope's Grand Cinema as it's recreated at Beamish Museum
Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Rhiannon Hiles and I'm the Chief Executive of Beamish and it's wonderful to see you here outside our cinema, which will be opening soon.
00:08It's a beautiful, beautiful space brought here from Ryop in terms of how it looks.
00:13Painstakingly taking detail from inside the building, making sure that it really, really feels like Ryop Cinema did back where it originally stood.
00:21Working with the community this morning was absolutely fantastic. Schoolchildren from Ryop have been in to have a look.
00:26Brilliant to see them here and we've had other activities going on as well.
00:29We've got Bill here who is one of the productionists and he talks about this as being the palace of his dreams and it was one of the first places that he'd ever worked.
00:36He remembered things like the smells in here, talks about there being an orange smell.
00:40So we've been thinking, how can we replicate that orange smell? Because I think it was probably quite, I'm not sure what went into that orange smell.
00:46I think it was a spray that they put in there because back in the day, there would have been smoking in there, the ash trees would have been overflowing
00:52and of course it's going to be a little bit different now it's here at Beamish.
00:55But this has been quite a journey to get to this point, over 10 years worth of time, thinking about what this might look like, how we would work with communities
01:03and making sure that it was the icing on the cake of our renegade Beamish project, which it absolutely is.
01:08Very excited to get this opened early July.
