00:00There's been mixed reactions from the community here in Victoria's East to the Federal Coalition's
00:06proposed plan to build a nuclear power site in the Latrobe Valley.
00:11Behind me are protesters from the group Voices of the Valley who say there's been not enough
00:15community consultation and that the Loy Yang site isn't suitable.
00:19Others on the street have been coming up saying that it's a great opportunity for new jobs
00:23and economic employment in the area and it's something they're really hoping to see happen
00:27soon.
00:28It's safe until there's an accident.
00:30If there's an accident with nuclear power, there is no opportunity to just move like
00:35we did in the Hazelwood mine fire.
00:37There is no opportunity that is lost the second a disaster happens.
00:43Others say that they're in favour of the proposition, saying it'll bring economic growth to the
00:47area, which is much needed.
00:49This is a great opportunity for our region to get an industry that we can develop from
00:56the beginning and become experts in and bring a level of prosperity back to us that we haven't
01:02seen for a while.
01:04The Latrobe Valley is one of the seven sites that the Federal Coalition has today proposed
01:08and they say it'll be done by 2035 to 2037, which the CSIRO says is not feasible.
01:15But for the community here, there's still a lot to iron out before that can happen.
