00:00Just before 4am this morning Fire Rescue NSW responded to reports of a unit on fire here
00:06at Lethbridge Park. Initial reports also indicated that there was someone inside the building
00:11sleeping or in the unit asleep. Firefighters arrived a short time later. Forced entry,
00:16self-evacuations from all the adjoining units had commenced. Firefighters forced entry into the unit
00:23and extinguished that fire. It took about 20 minutes. They did a search of the unit.
00:27Fortunately no occupant was there. They were actually having a sleepover or away for the night
00:32but they did locate a dog hiding under a bed or taking a safe refuge under a bed buddy
00:38and they got him out quickly. After our investigations we've identified the cause
00:42of this fire and it has been a failed lithium battery that belongs to a knee bike. Always look
00:48after them. Buy them from a reputable retailer outlet. Always be careful if you're buying
00:52secondhand. Never ever modify them to try and make them last longer or go faster. Always make
00:58sure you've got that working smoke alarm. Don't charge them where you're sleeping or in your
01:03bedroom or in the egress path or the exit path on the way out of the unit. Look after yourselves.
01:10Make sure you have working smoke alarms and if you do have a fire call 000 straight away,
01:15get up, get out so the firefighters can get there quickly and contain that fire.
