00:00Today I'm announcing we are opening the state's Emergency Operations Center, which is a statewide
00:04hub to monitor conditions and share resources.
00:08This includes constant communication with our county leaders.
00:12I have been in contact with major principals across this corridor yesterday, letting them
00:17know that we are ready to help them.
00:19They had a call with their emergency team and my emergency team just yesterday as well.
00:23So we want to make sure that they're ready to be able to staff all their cooling centers,
00:28have the water they need.
00:29Yesterday I activated the National Guard, with 50 guardsmen stationed now in Syracuse
00:34and Albany, ready to assist and be deployed wherever they are needed.
00:38And as I said, we reached out to the emergency management personnel in all 62 counties, reminding
00:43them to have direct communication with their constituents as well.
00:47It's going to be extremely hot and uncomfortable.
00:50In fact, it'll be dangerously hot.
00:53That is something I want everyone to keep in their minds when they're thinking about
00:55their families, their friends, their neighbors, and their pets.
00:58The real feel feels like temperature is going to be over 100 degrees, even starting today
01:04in upstate New York.
01:05This event is largely focused, as you can see from the screens behind me, that purple.
01:10Purple means extremely dangerous.
01:12That is along the I-90 through a corridor from Buffalo all the way to Albany and points
01:16in between.
01:17Department of Environmental Conservation and the Health Department are also monitoring
01:21the air quality and will continue to give air quality health alerts as we have this
01:25confluence of the heat, but also extreme humidity, which can compromise the air quality.
01:31So today we're announcing that we'll be issuing an alert for ozone in New York City, Lower
01:35Hudson, and Western New York regions from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
01:38We'll be continuing to update that.
01:40Stay indoors.
01:42Stay with your air conditioning.
01:43If you don't have A.C., go to a library, a government building, or a cooling center
01:47near you.
01:48Go to our website and find a cooling center.
01:50Make a plan so you're ready no matter what happens.
01:52This is a time of significant risk, and we're doing our best to make sure that all lives
01:57are protected.
