00:00:30Let's try this one more time
00:00:32Mother's Day is a national holiday
00:00:35Can the brothers get some love up in here?
00:00:38Happy Father's Day
00:00:40Look at five minutes a happy Father's Day. Happy Father's Day
00:00:44Look at a brother who might be a father wanna be father gonna be father
00:00:52Who's glad to be in the service one more time
00:01:00To be here God is good. Amen y'all ready for a word today. I
00:01:06Got up today and was I normally wear a suit on Father's Day, and I just happen to see my favorite shirt. I
00:01:14Said baby is Father's Day. I normally get a little live and put a suit on but uh, this is the name being Jesus child
00:01:22Victory rolls husband. The third best thing in my life is when my children call me dad
00:01:27And so thank you to all five of my beautiful children for loving me
00:01:31They all call me dad exception that she called me daddy. Praise God, and I think I've heard from most of them
00:01:38Today Ralph went on a senior trip
00:01:41Into Chicago. So a Ralph if you're watching it is Father's Day and of anybody
00:01:47Any of my viewers in Chicago will see Ralph on the Magnificent Mile with his shirt off telling his father
00:01:53Last time I seen he's at a concert with his shirt off
00:01:55So if you could tell him that his father is looking for him, hello, just Raphael Vernon looked something like me
00:02:01If you could tell him his Father's Day, amen praise God
00:02:04but I love my baby because my baby boy is himself clap for my baby boy and praise God and
00:02:11all of my children
00:02:13And to all of my spiritual sons across the nation who call me dad. I love you all
00:02:19I want to give kudos and props one more time. Let's tag this text. It's Father's Day
00:02:23The restaurants gonna be packed. And so I want to let you go 1st Corinthians 15 if your legs work stand on them
00:02:311st Corinthians 15 verse 10 1st Corinthians 15 verse 10
00:02:38Okay, this is oh my favorite verse in the Bible
00:02:42That should make all my members sit up with your spidey senses pastor who preaches from the Bible lives by the Bible
00:02:48You know and he said this is his favorite scripture
00:02:50So sit up because this is my favorite scripture, but whatever I am now it is all because God poured out his special favor on me
00:02:58And not without results
00:03:02For I have worked harder than any of the other Apostles
00:03:06Yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace
00:03:11Yeah, I grew up on the King James
00:03:13And memorized this at 15 years old
00:03:16But I am the least of the Apostles to be called an apostle because I persecuted the Church of God
00:03:20But by the grace of God, I am what I am, but his grace was not in vain
00:03:24But I labored more abundantly
00:03:26Than they are but I am the least of the Apostles to be called an apostle because I persecuted the Church of God
00:03:32but by the grace of God, I am what I am and
00:03:36His grace was not in vain toward me, but I labored more abundantly than all of them
00:03:42First Corinthians 15 verse 10 do me a favor. I'm in a teaching called strike while it's hot
00:03:48Do me a favor look at five brothers point at him and tell him man on fire. Go ahead, man
00:03:55Man on fire man on fire go ahead and take your seats in God's Church man on fire
00:04:03All right, if you would ask
00:04:05My beautiful wife to my right
00:04:08What's a few things that irritate her about me? I'm sure she has a good list
00:04:14But at the top she's going to tell you I hate the fact that he watches the same movies over and over again
00:04:22New movies come out, but for whatever reason he's watching castaway
00:04:26Like he doesn't know what happens at the end Tom Hanks always get rescued at the end. I'm sick of the Godfather
00:04:32I'm sick of Scarface. I'm sick of gangster movies on my television. That's what my wife would tell you. He won't watch any new movies
00:04:40One of those ancient movies that I love that came out two decades ago ironically in
00:04:452004 is a movie by Denzel Washington called man on fire
00:04:50If you're not a movie watcher, maybe you've never seen it
00:04:53But man on fire to describe it succinctly is simply this Denzel Washington is an alcoholic but yet he's a former CIA agent
00:05:00So he got skills in terms of rescuing people watching people, but he's an alcoholic. He's really sort of burnt out
00:05:06He gets this job watching this little wealthy white girl
00:05:09his job is to watch this little wealthy girl so that no one kidnaps her because in that country they were taking wealthy children and
00:05:16Selling them trying to get paid for them by keeping them as hostage
00:05:20And so Denzel is watching this girl. They shoot Denzel
00:05:24They take the girl and the rest of the movie is about him being on fire to get her back
00:05:29Come here man on fire is about mental note mental
00:05:33Note man on fire is about a girl in trouble who needs to be rescued
00:05:38Man on fire take a mental note is about a girl in trouble
00:05:42Who needs to be rescued by somebody bigger than her one last time take a mental note man on fire if you miss this mental
00:05:49Note, you'll miss my sermon in 30 minutes
00:05:51So please catch this man on fire is about a girl who's kidnapped who needs to be rescued
00:05:58Remember that as I go
00:06:01And speaking of man on fire
00:06:03Is there anybody more on fire in biblical text than the Apostle Paul you hear me call them all the time the talented?
00:06:11Tit-maker from Tarsus and the talented tit-maker from Tarsus the Apostle Paul is on fire for Jesus
00:06:17Most of you who grew up in Sunday school know why he's on fire. Most of you know like
00:06:23Josephus the historian that Paul was known for his egregious acts toward Christians
00:06:30Christianity was in its infancy
00:06:33So people thought it was a cult
00:06:36He's one of those cats who thinks it's his job to wipe all the Christians out
00:06:40He really thinks he's doing God a favor. He thinks Christianity is a cult. Remember they were steeped in
00:06:48Judaism you can have Christianity without Judaism, but you cannot have Christianity Judaism. You can have Christianity
00:06:55Forget it. I missed that point. Hey, man, let me get to this point. Here's the big point. I didn't mess that up completely
00:06:59Here's the point. I'm trying to make to you. They were steeped in Judaism. Everybody believed in traditional Orthodox Judaism
00:07:05Here's this new thing called Christianity that Jesus is Lord people think it's a cult
00:07:10So Paul is trying to kill all these so-called Christians
00:07:13They call Christianity the way at the beginning. They call it the way at the beginning and so
00:07:20You all know this from Sunday school God knocks him down
00:07:24Yeah, God knocks him down. Don't say off a horse. There's no horse in the Bible. He just got knocked down
00:07:29I don't know what he was riding whether he was walking big wheel motorcycle for well
00:07:33All I know he got knocked down and when God knocked him down, he was blind for three days
00:07:38I've been telling you for 20 years
00:07:39He saw more in three days with his eyes closed that he had ever seen with his eyes open
00:07:44Some of you ought to praise God that he knocks you down
00:07:47Go lean on somebody say I'm glad he knocked me down. Go ahead. That's one of my favorite sermons. I've ever preached
00:07:53I'm glad he knocked me down. He was blinded for three days, but yet he got illumination in his blindness
00:08:00Sometime God got to take your sight to give it to you
00:08:04So sometime God has as it were blinds you in order to give you the vision
00:08:09He wants you to have for your life
00:08:12And so I want you to catch this because I'm jaywalking
00:08:15Straight to verse 8 because the Bible says he was seen by the 12 Paul says watch this when he got up from the grave
00:08:21He was seen by the 12 then he was seen by the 500 then he was seen by
00:08:27Innumerable amounts of persons and then last of all this on the screens he was seen by me
00:08:35Last of all though I have been born at the wrong time
00:08:39He was seen by me born at the wrong time the Greek there
00:08:44The Greek there is a classic blesses my life. It is it is a class
00:08:49It is the idea and people wonder what it means in the Greek because he says he was seen by me
00:08:54I was born at the wrong time. I was born almost one version says as an aborted fetus
00:09:03I was born wrong
00:09:04And so people argue scholars argue was Paul talking about he was born at the wrong time
00:09:11Because he wasn't there when Jesus was walking the earth like the other 12 apostles
00:09:16So he was late to the game or is he saying the wrong time because of how many Christians he killed?
00:09:22Or is he saying the wrong time because of something personal?
00:09:28It is conjecture at best
00:09:31I said Jesus at worst because I don't know the text don't tell me but can I bring this text from antiquity to modernity and
00:09:38Situated geographically right here in the word church at 12 o 6 p.m
00:09:42On Father's Day 2024 and tell you some of you brothers because of what you went through may feel like you was born at the wrong
00:09:48time
00:09:50Can I tell some women who have some father pain and mama pain that sometime you feel like he was born at the wrong time?
00:09:57In the wrong place and the devil wants to mess with your mind. The devil wants to
00:10:03Attenuate two dollar word which means to lessen or take
00:10:07Attenuate if not eradicate he wants to attenuate
00:10:10Eradicate your faith and make you think you're not supposed to be here
00:10:13Let me tell you for the 200th time there is no such thing as an illegitimate child
00:10:18Every child has a legitimate reason for being here
00:10:21And so I speak over your life particularly men this morning that you are here because God wants you here and even the stuff
00:10:29You went through was necessary for your humility and for your testimony. You missed that
00:10:34I know many of you got three things you would change about your life
00:10:38But the older you get the more you gonna stop and say I'm just glad I made it over
00:10:42Can I get 50 people to give God some praise up in here and thank God that out of all the stuff
00:10:49I've been through I still got joy
00:10:51Can I get 80 people sitting in some section to look back over your life and say the devil tried to kill me
00:10:57But I'm still here. Is there anybody that would praise God that you made it?
00:11:02He
00:11:07Says I was born at the wrong time and then
00:11:11Verse 9 is what I fell in love with at 15 years old. He says for I am the least of the Apostles
00:11:17In fact, I'm not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God's church
00:11:23Did I tell you guys at 15 years old? I fell in love with this scripture
00:11:27It became my favorite scripture because he says out of all the stuff that I did wrong
00:11:32I'm the least of the Apostles. I'm the least of the Apostles. I'm the least of the Apostles. No
00:11:39That's not a low esteem. That's high humility
00:11:45No, that's not low self-esteem. That's high sovereign humility. Y'all missed y'all shout you need to believe that you somebody
00:11:52In order to make it as a man. You need some of that dog in you
00:11:56You need a father that speaks into your life and tells you that you are somebody
00:12:00You need to start believing that as a young lady. I've been telling my kids. They're blessed my baby girl
00:12:05I promised her I kissed her 1 million times before she turned 18
00:12:08I don't know where I'm at right now
00:12:10But I got to be close because I want to tell her she's somebody so long that when the first no good Negro come talking
00:12:15Stuff she gonna be like stop
00:12:18You ain't got enough of nothing to tell me that I wish I had ten fathers that would speak over your daughter's life
00:12:25So she don't fall in love with love
00:12:34And so he says I'm the least of the Apostles great crowd by the way, he he doesn't have low self-esteem
00:12:40Low self-esteem. He has high humility
00:12:43You see you should believe you somebody in Christ at the same time in the presence of God when you look at you and contrast
00:12:50And juxtaposition to Jesus you should humble yourself
00:12:53Okay, let me go grandma style you should say if it had not been
00:12:57For the Lord who was on my side
00:12:59Can I get 50 people that will humble yourself and know I got a degree because of Jesus
00:13:05I got a place to live because of Jesus
00:13:08I'm a decent daddy at best because of Jesus if it wasn't for Jesus, I wouldn't have anything
00:13:13I'm sorry, look down your roll pointed six people say nobody but Jesus
00:13:23He
00:13:24Says I'm the least of the Apostles. I'm building my case. I gotta go fast. It's Father's Day. I feel chicken in my spirit. Amen
00:13:33But then he says something that blew me away, here's my absolute favorite verse
00:13:37I am the least of the Apostles to be called an apostle because I persecuted the Church of God
00:13:41But but by the grace of God
00:13:45But by the grace of God I
00:13:48am
00:13:50What I am we try this one more time by the grace of God I am what I am and
00:13:57His grace toward me was not in vain
00:14:04The message version says it wasn't wasted grace next verse. I'm not about to let his grace go to waste
00:14:13I'm not about to let his grace
00:14:17Go to waste let me come to this side. I'm not about come here young people to let his grace go to waste
00:14:24I told this story about two times here the word church just as recent as two Wednesdays ago
00:14:29Don't think pastor got to mention. I don't have to mention
00:14:32I know I just told this story, but there are thousands who did not hear it
00:14:35So maybe for the last time in a long time, I'll tell this same story about private Ryan one of the 15 movies
00:14:41I have on loop
00:14:42The lady Vernon's tired of watching private Ryan I watch like every Tuesday pray for me. Amen
00:14:48Here's the succinct story. Sorry spoiler alert. It's been out 20 years if you ain't seen it yet
00:14:52I'm telling it today
00:14:54but I want y'all to catch this a private Ryan is about in essence a
00:14:58Woman who has five sons in the army in the middle of a war four sons get killed
00:15:06During the militaristic conflict the president finds out that there's a woman who got four dead sons in his army and only
00:15:13One son is still alive. The president sends a letter to the general and says whatever y'all do go find
00:15:20private Ryan
00:15:22Send him home with an honorable discharge because I'm not sending that woman no five caskets
00:15:28We already got a sender force. I don't care where he yet
00:15:30I don't care who you got a sin go find private Ryan and get him home
00:15:36And so captain Tom Hanks, who is the captain of this particular battalion?
00:15:41They're going all over the war looking for private Ryan. Finally, they find private Ryan
00:15:46They're trying to get him home, but they get attacked they get attacked and everybody in the battalion gets killed including
00:15:53captain Tom Hanks
00:15:56While captain Tom Hanks is taking his last breath. He looks at private Ryan and says
00:16:02earnest
00:16:05In other words, he was saying don't go home and be a crackhead
00:16:10Don't go home and have a bunch of side chicks
00:16:13Don't go home and be a missing daddy
00:16:16After all that was given for you after everybody who died so you could be here after all the sacrifice
00:16:23To get you to this moment
00:16:24Don't you go home and not accomplish nothing be the son that your mama gonna need you to be since your daddy's
00:16:32Since your brothers can never become it's gonna be on you go home and at the end of the movie most people slip this
00:16:41Private Ryan is 80 years old having raised his children and he's standing at the gravesite of Tom Hanks
00:16:47And he looks at his wife and says
00:16:50Was I a good man?
00:16:52In other words, did I live up?
00:16:55To the graces on my life. I got to go y'all looking at me funny
00:16:59Can I talk to 80 people they can look back over your life and know you shouldn't even be here because you got friends your
00:17:06Age to look twice as old as you you've done some nasty stuff and you still alive
00:17:10You should have AIDS herpes and cancer mixed together, but God spared you and even if you got it
00:17:15He's keeping you in the midst of your affliction. It was good that I was afflicted
00:17:20Oh
00:17:21Y'all still sitting there if you don't say a man
00:17:23I'm gonna call out your name and put your sins on the screen because you sit there like you've got it every hour and crossed
00:17:29Every tea, but if they anybody like me 23 people say nothing, but a cheap thing, baby
00:17:34Go ahead nothing, but the grace of God has me standing here right now
00:17:38I need a hundred men on Father's Day to open up your mouth and praise God that his grace was not
00:17:46wasted on you
00:17:49Too
00:17:54Many of you brothers should be dead but you here
00:17:58Too many of you brothers shouldn't even be alive
00:18:01But you made it
00:18:03Too many brothers in spite of what your father did not do for you. Look at you
00:18:07Don't don't let his grace be in vain. I don't know why I'm standing here. I promise you. This is not false humility
00:18:13It's absolute honesty a boy from the projects not the most handsome
00:18:16Wasn't the best athlete like basketball got a little sneaky left, but I never made the team pray for me
00:18:22Just fell in love with my Bible and fell in love with it
00:18:24It's fed me is what I live my life by and I don't know how I'm standing here the grace of God
00:18:29And so I promise God pastor Vernon this pastor Vernon that I heard this
00:18:33I heard he got that and every day I told my children since they were born people can talk all they want
00:18:38We gonna wake up every day and earn this I
00:18:41I
00:18:43Don't lose no sleep about haters because they don't know how hard I work
00:18:47They don't know the work I put in to be where I'm at and I'll lose no sleep over people who don't know my story
00:18:53They just see my glory and don't you let nobody put you down because they don't know God's been good to you
00:18:58And every day you wake up you tell yourself
00:19:01I gotta earn this life cuz I was a crazy chick and I got a degree. I was no good. I own a home
00:19:07I got a baby. That's healthy. I got a husband who loves me with all of my brokenness
00:19:21And I make you young people sit on the front every Sunday so I can then cocaine to your hearts
00:19:28earn this
00:19:31Live your life
00:19:33strike while it's hot
00:19:35maximize your moment
00:19:37Don't waste your life
00:19:39Don't have a million regrets when you're 60
00:19:43Earn this life
00:19:46Some of your friends are strung out
00:19:49Some of them are miserable
00:19:51Half of you a college degree if not, most of you already in your mid-twenties. God has been kind to you
00:19:59Earn this life every man hear me
00:20:02his grace
00:20:04Was not in vain. Oh
00:20:06I gotta go. Yeah, I gotta go. I'm not gonna let his grace
00:20:09Go to waste. Can I tell you guys something? Let me give you a few reasons
00:20:12I'm on fire and then I'm in my seat. I think preaching short is better on Father's Day than preaching too long
00:20:18So, let me give you a few reasons. I'm on fire and I'm in my seat first and foremost. I'm on fire for my family
00:20:25I'm on fire
00:20:27I'm on fire. Don't go to heaven. They say if you want to keep something from a black man put it in the book
00:20:34Because black man don't read but I want to read something to you and that is this
00:20:39The father factor everybody with daddy pain male or female
00:20:43Read it listen to it in the audio version
00:20:46But read it the father factor will help so many of you how your father's legacy impacts your career
00:20:51The father factor is the conscious understanding awareness and appreciation of the critical influence that your father had still has
00:20:58Or could have in your career development and future potential
00:21:02Noting that the father-son or father-daughter relationship is one of the least understood relationships about life. Dr
00:21:07Porter helps you become acutely aware of the immeasurable impact
00:21:11Negative or positive that your father has on you. Let me just give you a few things
00:21:17If you allow me to put some psychology in my theology
00:21:21because first and foremost first and foremost fathers and
00:21:25emotional development
00:21:27Fathers and emotional development fathers like mothers are pillars by the development of their child's emotional well-being
00:21:34Children look to their fathers to lay down the rules and enforce them
00:21:38They also look at their fathers for feelings of security
00:21:43number two fathers set the bar for
00:21:46Relationships all five of my children would tell you it is watching me
00:21:50I pray watching their mother too, but there's so much impact that daddy's have and don't know they have
00:21:54I taught them how to treat people. I taught them that every person you meet gets a a until their grade drops
00:22:03Yeah, don't have presuppositions about people the Lord broke the spirit of racism off of me
00:22:08He's watching now maintenance Mike who take care of this church
00:22:10I brought her from Florida years ago, and he saved our church millions and millions of dollars
00:22:15He's retiring at the end of the year that beautiful white man has been better to me than most black people. I know
00:22:20Better to my family better to this ministry. Not only him
00:22:24I've been pulled over by police where I live and they treated me with kindness
00:22:27And so God spoke the broke the spirit of racism off of me and told me treat everybody right until they show you something different
00:22:34So my kids have been taught you don't let nobody tell you who to like
00:22:38You don't let nobody tell you how to think I caught some heat on social media this week makes me no difference
00:22:45I told them when you believe something you don't cave in you don't kowtow
00:22:48You don't capitulate if you believe something stand on it and say it with your check
00:22:54If you don't believe it don't say it
00:22:56But be who you are you revert and act like it walk like it carry yourself like it
00:23:01That's what fathers do fathers teach their sons how to treat their wife and a good father
00:23:08Teaches their daughters what to look for in a man. There should be a comparison to you my brother everybody
00:23:14She meet should have to live up to your standard not be above it when she meets him
00:23:19Soon as she meets him. She should be checking him out to see if he acts like you
00:23:27Somebody clap in here for father impact
00:23:34Fathers and their daughters
00:23:36fathers and their daughters most women are looking for a man subconsciously something like their daddy and
00:23:42Then most sons fathers and sons want to be just like their father
00:23:48I want to read a few types of dads in my study in my study
00:23:52I came across something that I thought was interesting and
00:23:55When you've been preaching to the same people 25 years you got to come at a different angle every year. I've done
00:24:0023
00:24:01Father's Day sermons get your head around that
00:24:03So every year I got to challenge me to tell you something
00:24:05I haven't told you before and I want to give you a list of the kind of fathers
00:24:09That I think speak to who we are or maybe who we should not be first of all, there's the POW dad
00:24:15The POW dad this is the prisoner of war dad
00:24:19This dad is present and his children's life, but he's not positively engaged in it and he's not just disengaged
00:24:25He's enraged to his children. He always seems angry and because of the anger
00:24:31He hurts others with his words tone and action
00:24:34The family walks on proverbial eggshells around him because they don't know when or if the angry guy inside him
00:24:41Will rear his ugly head
00:24:43Then number two this there's the MIA dad the MIA dad
00:24:47This is the missing in action dad
00:24:49And this is you brothers if this is you you got to run home
00:24:52You got to make calls as soon as church is over this dad chooses not to be present and his children's lives
00:24:58He may have helped bring them into the world, but he doesn't want to have anything to do with him
00:25:02He's not engaged and his children may not even know him or who or where he is
00:25:08They probably wouldn't recognize him if they saw him on the streets
00:25:13He chooses to stay away because the pain and shame of returning are too great for him to face
00:25:20But then there is the AWOL dad. This is the absent without leave dad. Yes
00:25:26He's physically present in the home, but he's not
00:25:29Emotionally present when he's there the children see him, but the children can't seem to talk to him
00:25:34That's the father who doesn't know to ask his daughter about her sexuality
00:25:37How you feeling about brothers since you've hit puberty or when the last time you thought how you feeling emotionally?
00:25:43Has mom and I did anything to impact that you negatively should we consider some Christian therapy anything you need to say to me and
00:25:48Get it off you because everybody just can't come at me any kind of way
00:25:51But anything you need to say to me respectfully to get free. I'll listen for a minute
00:25:56Anything I could have done better you can get it off on me
00:25:58I trust you to be respectful, but say what you got to say because I want you free and whole
00:26:04Yeah, I wonder
00:26:06Were you there but not there emotionally? Okay, watch this. Then there's the reserve duty dad
00:26:11Reserve duty dad is the dad who treats fatherhood like a part-time job
00:26:15He's engaged with his children, but only occasionally maybe only on the weekends when it's most convenient for him
00:26:21He has good intentions
00:26:22But his children require more time that he's willing or able to give his children need him to be a full-time dad
00:26:29But he's content with giving them a part-time effort
00:26:33But then here's the dad that I believe most of you brothers are today, and I celebrate you active duty dad
00:26:40aka
00:26:42all pro dad
00:26:44active duty dad isn't a perfect dad, but he's a
00:26:47Consistently and emotionally present dad he's actively engaged
00:26:52Attentive available and accessible to his children
00:26:56He's intentional about learning and winning the hearts of his children even if he has to struggle to do it
00:27:01He loves protects serves provides for their physical emotional and spiritual needs
00:27:07He's not afraid to affirm his love for his children and whether in his presence. They feel emotionally and physically safe and secure
00:27:15I got a word for you, and this is the mic drop
00:27:19You may be either one of these dads
00:27:21But regardless of the type of dance we had growing up where the good bad average absent our dads may explain us
00:27:28But they don't excuse us
00:27:31Our dads may explain us, but they don't excuse us
00:27:35Oh, yeah, the reason I'm like that is because of this but that doesn't excuse me
00:27:39I see some of his temper in me. I see some of his ways in me our daddy may explain us
00:27:45But he does not excuse us because I don't care what you went through with your father
00:27:49You can be a better father than your father was to you
00:27:52Can I get a what what up in here and can I get about a thousand women to celebrate the fantastic fathers in this?
00:28:00Church and give them props
00:28:10And
00:28:12Speaking of fantastic fathers. I did this in the first service. I'm gonna do it again
00:28:16Okay, you wrestle as a pastor on what you want to say on holidays
00:28:20I mean
00:28:20Here's the unspoken truth that you may not know every pastor wants to hit it out the park on the three major four black major
00:28:26preaching holidays for black people Easter
00:28:30Christmas New Year's Mother's Day Father's Day. You want your best stuff ready?
00:28:33So we call each other on Saturday, which you preaching man
00:28:36Which you dealing with because we know it's more people than usual more guests than usual
00:28:40So I struggle we're rather not to talk about this
00:28:42But I have to because I'm in Brooklyn, New York this past Friday for the one-night stand things go. Well, it's a great night
00:28:50I wake up early Saturday morning first thing out
00:28:52I got to get to my babies get to my church for Father's Day while I'm on my way out of the hotel
00:28:58My phone rings and the phone number. I've never seen anybody ever called your phone and you didn't know who it was
00:29:06And you look at the phone like devil is alive
00:29:09You may be a bill collector. Praise God. Amen
00:29:12Praise God. I'll have none of them calling but I ain't taking no chances. Amen. Praise God. Maybe one I don't know about. Amen
00:29:18But I answer I said hello. She said hello pastor Vernon. She's crying and what do you guys say?
00:29:24Hello, and who's this and what you guys think the next question I asked how did you I?
00:29:31Said it nice. Hey, how did you get my number? I
00:29:35Said it like Jesus. How don't you get my number? Praise God?
00:29:39And she says two of your fraternal brothers gave me a number and they they said
00:29:45They would take a chance because they knew you would want to hear this. I said, okay, what's going on?
00:29:49I'm literally getting in the car headed to the airport. She says she gives me her name. She says I just graduated
00:29:55With my doctorate. I'm now a medical doctor and I was headed to Kansas City to start my regimen
00:30:02You know to start to start to practice as a doctor and I'm headed to Kansas City
00:30:06So my parents flew in to see me become a medical doctor and surgeon
00:30:09she said they flew in and so as they flew in and
00:30:12They flew in and they come to my graduation and she said the next day this this all happened guys the last 72 hours
00:30:19The next day we were headed to the U-Haul place. I'm dropping them off at the hotel next morning
00:30:25We're gonna get up go to the Utah U-Haul place
00:30:27Grab my stuff and they're gonna drive me to Kansas City to begin my residency and my parents flew in
00:30:33She says as we're all 71 headed to the hotel to drop them off a drunk driver came at us
00:30:39And we'll put their pictures on the screen right quick. It came at us and
00:30:43My mother got killed on the spot
00:30:46And my father's legs are messed up pastor and he has to have surgery
00:30:51And I don't know what to do
00:30:54Because my mother's in the morgue and my sister's 37 weeks pregnant in Seattle
00:31:00She can't come
00:31:02And I don't know I got to get my mother home and my daddy's going into surgery and I'm supposed to start my residency next week
00:31:09And I'm sorry to bother you pastor. I said no no no no no this this was Jesus
00:31:14I said I'm on a plane
00:31:15So I made all the calls I could
00:31:17From the plane to my people who know what to do and when I got off the plane Holy Spirit said my son Dominic picked
00:31:22Me up. I said straight to Metro straight to Metro straight to Metro
00:31:25So I get the Metro and she sees me and she starts to cry and we go into the visitors room
00:31:30And she tells me her situation she says pastor
00:31:32I don't know what to do because
00:31:33Do I get my mother out the morgue and then and then my daddy don't want the body to go home without him
00:31:38But he has to have surgery
00:31:39I don't know if he gonna be here two weeks or a month and I don't have any
00:31:42Money, and and and I don't know and I just thought maybe if I
00:31:46Call pastor Vernon. I said you've been coming. She says I've been coming the last three years
00:31:50While I've been working on my doctorate I came to church at 9 o'clock every Sunday it pays to go to church
00:31:57It pays to go to church while you're in college
00:32:00It pays to find you a church while you're in college and stay connected because what if she hadn't been coming here? I
00:32:07Said well, baby. I want to meet your daddy. I want to meet your daddy
00:32:12Take me in the room and so I walked in the room and I said hello, sir
00:32:15Your daughter told me everything his legs are all messed up and he has tears coming down his face
00:32:19And so I say sir, I just want you to tell you I want you know, I'm your daughter's pastor
00:32:23I'm pastor Vernon. I don't know if you know me or not
00:32:24I just landed but I'm here just to let you know and he says pastor. I want you to know something
00:32:28I've already forgiven the drunk driver that killed my wife
00:32:33He says and I want you to know I'm not mad at Jesus
00:32:36She says he said and I want you to know my wife is with the master and one day I'm gonna see her again
00:32:44He says but I'm so sad right now
00:32:46He says because for 40 years
00:32:49She took care everything
00:32:51I'm retired and all we wanted to do was come get our baby and drive her to Kansas City and I'm not gonna know what
00:32:56To do without her leg and body touching me and getting out the bed. That's all I know pastor, but I'm gonna be alright
00:33:02Because I know she's with the master. I thought I was there to encourage him
00:33:07Little did I know he was going to encourage me and brother Terrence, I know you're watching again
00:33:12I want to speak life over you that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and because you say
00:33:18You shall see her again because God's grace grabbed her
00:33:22Y'all missed the show
00:33:24That's a cute story, but it's Father's Day. I said
00:33:28What you what you don't know brother Terrence happy Father's Day is you the boss dad
00:33:33Happy Father's Day is you the boss dad is because while we were sitting in the visitors room your daughter said to me
00:33:40I thought I was going to start my residency. She says but I can't leave my daddy
00:33:44She says my daddy took care of me and my mama took care of my daddy and he's not gonna know what to do
00:33:49So pastor, I'm gonna stay and take care of my daddy. I said, oh, no, you're not
00:33:52I said he's the man I think he is he's gonna tell you behind get me back home
00:33:56Because your mother gave her life for you to finish this goal and you're the one that's gonna bring money to our house
00:34:01And you're gonna be the doctor and the surgeon because you've been in school all your life to finish your goal
00:34:07I don't know who I'm talking to but can the word nation celebrate brother Terrence who?
00:34:12Sacrificed everything and raised his daughter right and grace me over his life
00:34:25When you know Jesus
00:34:28When you know Jesus
00:34:30How long have I been telling you word nation ask God to give you enough power?
00:34:35Read your Bible enough have enough Holy Spirit that you can handle the worst day of your life
00:34:42Because you don't know when that day is coming the best day of her life became the worst day
00:34:47She's been trying to be a doctor all her life
00:34:49You graduate with your doctorate and your mother died the next day and yet God's grace can keep you on your worst
00:34:55I'm sorry look at somebody and say I'm crazy with Jesus. How you making it without him go ahead
00:35:01Can I get 50 people that would thank God for Jesus because he'll keep you in perfect peace if you're mine
00:35:08I feel like preaching here. Oh
00:35:11I
00:35:12Gotta get y'all gonna make me close up in here
00:35:14I wish I had 15 people that would thank God for Jesus that he kept you
00:35:18He never left you and on the worst day of your life
00:35:21You may be in but you won't break because his grace and mercy is sufficient. Oh
00:35:28I'm out of here. Y'all not only am I on fire. Thank you brothers
00:35:32Not only in my own fire for my family, but secondly, I'm on fire for my future
00:35:38Y'all didn't say nothing. My time is gone. God bless you. Happy Father's Day. I said I'm on fire for my future
00:35:44I'm gonna try one more time. I'm on fire
00:35:47For my future. I just got mad. I'm mad
00:35:50You know why I'm mad
00:35:52I'm mad because all the young people on the front row are shouting because they're thinking about their 30s and their 40s and who they
00:36:00Gonna marry and the money they gonna make and how they gonna be there for you know who I met it
00:36:04I'm mad at everybody over 50 because you didn't shout
00:36:08Because some of you you let the devil attenuate
00:36:12eradicate
00:36:13Take away your faith and your fire, but I got a word for you
00:36:18I've been saying it for the last year prophetically and not enough people over 50 have shouted. So I'm gonna try one more time
00:36:24What if I told you that the best thing God's gonna do through you he hasn't done yet
00:36:31I'm gone. I ain't got no people over 50 that believe the best is yet to come Oh
00:36:38Shout out
00:36:40to my mother-in-law
00:36:42Sitting in the back with her best friend. Trust me. You'll spot them. They got on church hats
00:36:47Look at
00:36:51Sister Houston turned 88 years old yesterday
00:36:56And she said I want to spend my birthday
00:36:59With my friend. That's her husband. He cute to 88 years old clap for brother Houston. Amen
00:37:05And can I tell you sister Houston? Can I tell you mother Williams?
00:37:08Can I tell everybody over 50 shot of you believe it that the best is yet to come?
00:37:13I'm sorry pointing somebody old and say you ain't dead yet
00:37:17If he woke you up this morning
00:37:20whoa
00:37:22Hey, you're right man. I
00:37:24Gotta get out of here. Not only all shoot. Let me just get it now. I'm on fire for my family number two
00:37:30I'm on fire for my future, but number three god bless you. I'm on fire for some more fire
00:37:36Did nobody shout I wish I had some Holy Ghost feel people that knows the Bible says in Ephesians 5 18 and be filled
00:37:44With the Holy Spirit and the Greek it means keep on being filled in the Greek
00:37:49It means Lord keep on filling me up and the Greek it means give me some more of your power
00:37:55Can I get some people that's on fire and you still want God to give you some more fire?
00:38:00God's not finished with you yet. So what you tripping so what you got a couple of bills so what you divorce
00:38:07So what's your daddy left? Don't you lose your fire? I need 50 people to open up wait mental
00:38:14I
00:38:16Sorry, I told you to take a mental note I
00:38:25Gotta start another church. I'm way too fast
00:38:28But the church I started 20 years ago y'all got old on me because y'all miss this stuff
00:38:33I told you 37 minutes ago to take a mental note matter of fact
00:38:36I said take a mental note then I said it two times take a mental note
00:38:40Slow people so I said take a mental note, then I figured there was some real slow people
00:38:44So for the fourth time I said take a mental note
00:38:47Prayerful that no one would forget to ask me about the mental note and the whole church was gonna let me close my sermon
00:38:53But I said, what about the mental note mental note?
00:38:56I said take a mental note and the mental note was
00:38:59that Denzel Washington
00:39:01was
00:39:03watching the girl a
00:39:05Kidnapper took the girl and the rest of the movie is about Denzel trying to rescue the girl from the kidnappers
00:39:13At the end of the movie spoiler alert is 20 years old y'all should have watched it by now
00:39:17At the end of the movie at the end of the movie Denzel finally contacts the kidnapper
00:39:22He says I got your brother. If you want your brother back, you better give me that little girl back
00:39:26The the kidnapper says no, I got some better
00:39:30your life for hers
00:39:32If you love her that much
00:39:35your life for hers
00:39:37Will give you her if you give up your life
00:39:42Come here, Jesus
00:39:45One day God, I wish I had a witness here
00:39:48Was having a conversation y'all not having church with me and says I need to rescue
00:39:53Some people that's in trouble on the front row some people that's in the back and God says I'll make a deal
00:39:59I'll give my life
00:40:01for their life
00:40:03That's called Christianity. That's called the gospel for God. So love the work
00:40:09That he gave is only I wished I had ten shouters up in here
00:40:13That would have a little church with me and thank God that Jesus gave his life
00:40:18So that you can have your life and because of that you ought to catch on fire
00:40:22Do me a favor hit six people. I'm in my seat. Look at a real tight and say I'm on fire. I
00:40:28I
00:40:30Said six people shake six people's hand and say I'm on fire
00:40:33I'm on fire
00:40:35The devil is alive
00:40:38I'm on fire
00:40:40the devil
00:40:42Tried to take my joy
00:40:44But shake another brother's hand. I said shake a brother's hand
00:40:49and say brother
00:40:51I'm a man on fire. I
00:40:54can't
00:40:56Let my fire go out
00:40:58The old folk used to say I wish somebody's soul
00:41:03With kept on fire
00:41:05If you on fire, I dare you to walk to somebody and it's a neighbor
00:41:11the devil tries
00:41:13to take my joy, but after all
00:41:18The things I've been through
00:41:20I'll sue
00:41:23God
00:41:24Can I get a witness here? Is there anybody here that wants the fire?
00:41:31Luke said in Acts on the day of Pentecost
00:41:35the spirit fell down like
00:41:38fire
00:41:39Now you can sit there and be cute on Father's Day or open your mouth
00:41:46And say I want the fire
00:41:51Is there anybody here on Father's Day that will say Lord
00:41:58Send the fire. I've been too apathetic
00:42:02I've been too indifferent. I've been too slothful
00:42:06I've been too lazy
00:42:08but my pastor
00:42:10Just preached and I feel
00:42:14My fire coming back
00:42:16This is my time
00:42:18To lose weight
00:42:20my time
00:42:22to get some more money
00:42:24my time
00:42:26To do better by my grandchildren
00:42:28my time
00:42:29I'm out of here. Can I get a hundred men?
00:42:33That's old fire to run to the altar
00:42:37Slap me a high five and run back to your seat
00:42:41Hey pastor
00:42:43I'm a man
00:42:45on fire
00:42:47The devil thought he had me but Jesus came and grabbed me
00:42:56I want to know is there anybody here on a Sunday morning that will say I'm on fire
00:43:03The devil is alive
00:43:05Jump on your feet turn around in your seat and say I'm on fire
00:43:11I'm not gonna sit here and die
00:43:152024 will be the best year of my life
00:43:20Can I get some women to shout in your seats? I'm a woman. Oh

00:44:07Like preaching in here. I'm out of here. Y'all you got 20 more seconds to open your mouth
00:44:14It's just
00:44:36I'll be 50 feet. I need 50 feet to throw your hands up
00:44:42Throw your head back and say fire
00:44:46ha
00:44:48on me
00:44:50Holy Spirit
00:44:52Have your way
00:45:04Yes

00:45:10Happy Father's Day
00:45:12My babies are waiting on me. Happy Father's Day. My grandson is in the back
00:45:18Happy Father's Day, but before I leave I'm gonna give you one more chance to invite
00:45:25the fire
00:45:27To fall from heaven. Can I get a thousand people and 20,000 watching to get on your feet?
00:45:35for the last time and
00:45:37Open up your mouth with everything you've got and tell the devil
00:45:50Do me a favor
00:45:52Bump your neighbor real fast. It's a warm hot. I'm hot. I'm hot
00:45:56You better get away from me

00:53:28Particularly if you have children or wife, so somebody will be wealthy at your death
00:53:33Insurance money is tax-free
00:53:36It is the easiest way to bless your family is selfish not to think past your death Abraham Isaac and Jacob
00:53:42The Bible is a generational book. I've been having insurance on my life. Like I was an old man since I was 31
00:53:48Something happens to me. This church is rich
00:53:50My family is all they need for the rest of their life because that's important to me. I speak fire over you

00:54:10And it is so as we go
00:54:15Patrice I know you watch and I told her to watch both services Patrice and brother Terrence Lamar
00:54:23She said pastor I ain't got no money
00:54:24I know I'm a doctor but
00:54:26All our money went toward me becoming a surgeon and she was getting ready to go make money start next week in Kansas City
00:54:32I don't know how I'm gonna get the body home her mother in the morgue right now. Her father may have to have surgery
00:54:37What do you do?
00:54:39Sister can't help her 37 weeks pregnant. She can't get on a plane baby coming any day
00:54:43Brother Terrence said my sixth grandchild is coming past it
00:54:46I don't even know what to do and I sat there and said all it's gonna be
00:54:50Okay burning foundation and the board of directors. I didn't get a chance, but they just hit me this morning and y'all
00:54:55Please forgive me work with me. We don't make sure that body gets home
00:55:00Come on y'all. Oh y'all didn't clap y'all hands that body getting home
00:55:07And
00:55:10We gonna give her some startup money to go to Kansas City
00:55:15And
00:55:19We gonna help daddy get back to Seattle, Washington and
00:55:23Do whatever we got to do now we gonna do this
00:55:27Between my foundation this church. We could do it right now. Don't nobody give a dollar
00:55:31I don't play no money games, but I want to ask somebody to get in on it
00:55:35If you like to the first service went crazy, what if it was your wife?
00:55:38What if it was your child if those of you that would say pastor?
00:55:42I got your back put it up on the screens
00:55:44And our team will watch this in terms of second offer anybody that can sew a $50 gift or $100 gift
00:55:50I don't know what it takes to put a body on a plane. I've never done it before
00:55:53Seattle, Washington, we got to get mama home and all that
00:55:57So those even young people who say on Father's Day every man should be running up here quick
00:56:01I hugged Lady Verna just a little tighter this morning because he said pastor. I feel like getting off the bed every morning for 40 years
00:56:08She took care of all the business. She was a stay-at-home mom. I don't know what I'm gonna do pastor
00:56:13because his wife took care of him and so
00:56:16This is real and then this happens two days before Father's Day
00:56:20So let's at least bring some joy every every grown member say pastor. I got you. It's on the screen
00:56:25You can give an extra $50 right now or 20 if you got a dime
00:56:29What would you want a church to do? I'm so glad she came to this church
00:56:32Because she could have stayed in the dorm and been having sex and acting crazy while she was in college
00:56:38But she came to the nine o'clock service while she was becoming a surgeon in another city
00:56:43Those who've been watching me when you go to school you go to church somewhere in that city
00:56:46Stay connected to Jesus because little did she know that the church
00:56:50She was coming to will be the church that would be there
00:56:54on the hardest moment of her life
00:56:56So people are running run run bring bring a gift if somebody got a thousand give it what you're scared of you blessed
00:57:03Vernon Foundation is getting in on this because that's what I started it for. She had no idea when she was talking
00:57:08I was already thinking we getting that body home
00:57:11We getting that body home in Jesus name. Y'all should give God praise for the word nation
00:57:15This is what we do y'all. This is what we do this. You better get in on this
00:57:21I don't care if you got a penny you better bring a penny up here
00:57:24Young people bring a quarter up here. Let God see what you would give
00:57:28You know how you get money you get money by giving when you don't have a lot
00:57:31Stop saying if I had a lot I would give no give why you got a little and God will multiply
00:57:37Get in on this
00:57:38This is good ground for the least of these when you did it to the least of these you did it for me
00:57:43When you did it for the least of these when you did it for the least of these somebody start giving somebody start giving
00:57:48Come on, if you got good money, give some good money right now. Give some good money right now
00:57:52Use your credit card use your card give give give use your phone right now those watching online
00:57:57Get in on this get in on this. Let's put their picture up. We'll leave it up there. That's okay
00:58:01I know people are giving now, but y'all pray for him and
00:58:04by the way
00:58:05YF is going to see we got it set up and y'all should clap for this where
00:58:12Somebody's going to sit with Patrice
00:58:15Every day this week
00:58:19She ain't got no family here her mother in the morgue
00:58:23Her daddy's gonna be in surgery. We're also taking food to them every day and
00:58:29We also put our counselor on top of it to help them work through the grief and the trauma
00:58:33And so we're doing everything a church could do. We are her family. We are her family. That's what church is about
00:58:40And so
00:58:44Even on this Father's Day somebody's gonna blast up there and check on them
00:58:48Because what a Father's Day this is for her and for him. So let's be pretty good people still give it
00:58:53That's why I love the word nation. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Use your phone
