Netanyahu slams military plans for daily 'tactical pauses' to allow aid into Gaza

The UN has repeatedly reported that Gaza is experiencing a humanitarian crisis, with widespread hunger and hundreds of thousands of people on the brink of famine. Israel has come under increasing pressure to ease the humanitarian burden on Gaza.

00:00Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has criticized plans announced by the military

00:07to implement daily tactical pauses to facilitate deliveries of aid into Gaza.

00:16The army said the pauses, designed to allow trucks to reach the Kerem Shalom crossing,

00:21would take place every day until further notice.

00:25But one Israeli official said that Netanyahu had made it clear to his military secretary

00:29that the pauses were unacceptable to him.

00:36This dispute is the latest in a string of clashes between members of Netanyahu's coalition

00:40and the military over how the war is conducted.

00:45It comes a week after centrist former General Benny Gantz quit the government, saying Netanyahu

00:50had no effective strategy in Gaza.

00:56Netanyahu is also facing criticism from regular Israelis.

01:01They accuse his government of not doing enough to secure the release of the hostages being

01:05held by Hamas in Gaza.

01:08They have held weekly protests in Tel Aviv, demanding Netanyahu call fresh elections and

01:13step down.

01:15Meanwhile, at least nine people, including five children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike

01:20on the Berej camp in central Gaza on Sunday.

01:24That airstrike came as Muslims started marking the major Eid al-Adha holiday.

01:29The Israeli military operation in Gaza has so far killed over 37,000 Palestinians.

01:36But the Hamas-controlled health ministry doesn't differentiate between civilians and combatants

01:40in its count.
