00:00Today is Father's Day. On this special day, we join Fathers at The Guardian Nigeria as
00:15they speak on true fatherhood.
00:18Fatherhood is an experience. It takes more than being a sperm donor to be a father. If
00:30I have to sum it up with qualities at the top of my head, I would say sacrifice. Everything
00:38flows from there. To be the man, the head of the home, the provider, the breadwinner,
00:46and everything society expects of you. You can be everything, you can provide everything,
00:51but if you are not the role model, then you are not a good father to your kids.
01:01Fatherhood comes with a lot of responsibilities. A good father, therefore, is one who is able
01:12to meet those responsibilities. Number one, you have to be loving. You must show affection
01:21to your wife.
01:28I believe that a good father is one that is able to take care of the family, is there
01:33for the children growing up, guide them to become better citizens, and provide security
01:40for that family.
01:41Every other thing comes under security, in terms of finance, in terms of education, in
01:50terms of every other thing. Even the Bible made us understand that a man that cannot
01:55provide for his family is worse than an infidel.
02:02You must be a good listener, to understand your children's needs. You have to turn yourself
02:15to a kind of psychologist, to know the differences between your children, and know how to take
02:23care of their needs.
02:31A good father, really, his life is about his family, really. He thinks every time, he plans
02:41every time for the children, for the family, for guests that are going to come. He must
02:47provide for everybody, really, and look for the future of the children, and be ready to
02:57hand over legacies to them, as a good father.
03:00You must also be disciplined, in the sense that there are so many other things that will
03:05come, and you need to make decisions. And decision entails being disciplined in some
03:13aspect of things that we do.
03:17You must be intentional about bringing children into the world, and part of that being intentional
03:25is that you prepare for their coming, together with their mothers.
03:30If you are responsible for bringing people into this world, you should be responsible
03:37for training them, and being able to achieve much more than you yourself, because we hope
03:49that the world is a much better place than when we ourselves got here.
03:59When they want to count men, they count you. It gives joy. And today, as we are going to
04:06celebrate Father's Day too, be proud to join other men to celebrate Father's Day.
04:11Oh, to all fathers, I say, Happy Father's Day.
04:16Happy Father's Day.
04:19Happy Father's Day.
