00:13The oil spilled into Singaporean waters after a Netherlands-flagged dredger struck a stationary
00:19Singapore-flagged bunker vessel on Friday afternoon in the southern port of Pasir Panjang.
00:26Authorities had said the vessel was no longer leaking oil, but added that due to the tidal
00:30current, the treated oil has landed along shorelines including Sentosa, Labrador Nature
00:36Reserve, Southern Islands, Marina South Pier, and East Coast Park.
00:41Despite the closures, some beachgoers were still visiting East Coast Park on Sunday morning.
00:46Are you worried about the environment at all, because it really smells awful?
00:50Yeah, it smells also, and it's not really good for the health, for, you know, there's
00:55elderly here, kids here, yeah.
00:58We planned to swim today, but since we knew what happened to the sea yesterday, then we
01:06decided not to waste our Sunday, just come and enjoy the wind.
01:10There's no wind, a bit of wind, but it's okay.
01:14The view is awesome actually.
01:16Singapore is a global shipping and fuel bunkering hub.
01:20The environmental impact of the oil spill remains unclear, but local newspaper The Straits
01:26Times reported that fishermen were on alert for a spike in the number of fish deaths over
01:30the next few days.
