00:00Eloise! Time for the modiste!
00:03Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:05A new season requires a new wardrobe, n'est-ce pas?
00:08And when dressing to impress London society,
00:10no detail is too small to overlook.
00:13So today, let's take a moment to appreciate the thought
00:15that went into crafting the fashionable world of Bridgerton Season 3.
00:19Take heed, dear viewer, this video contains a few spoilers.
00:23I understand your hesitation, but remember,
00:26the dawn feeds on a nouveau, and it gets ill-tempered when it is hungry.
00:33Number 10. Presentation Sparkle
00:36In Season 1, Daphne Bridgerton dazzled at her debut,
00:39instantly earning the moniker of the Diamond.
00:42Flawless, my dear.
00:47Though Francesca didn't make quite the same instant impression,
00:51she was always going to follow in her sister's footsteps.
00:54The proof was right there on her gown.
00:56Bridgerton guard your majesty, you have had good luck with Bridgertons.
01:00Francesca, like Daphne, makes her debut with understated
01:03but noticeable diamonds on her bodice.
01:06Meanwhile, Eloise's presentation gown featured more gold than glitter.
01:10Famously, Eloise never wanted to be a debutante at all,
01:14much less the Queen's favorite.
01:15So it's as if she was subconsciously dissuading Charlotte
01:18from that line of thought.
01:19Though I must admit, I'm more of an emerald person myself.
01:22While Francesca doesn't particularly want the title either,
01:26her eagerness to marry aligns her more with Daphne than Eloise.
01:30Interestingly, Francesca and Daphne also have the same diamond design
01:33on their skirts and sleeves,
01:35further cementing the similarities between them.
01:37Suppose entering society means I might meet someone.
01:41Would be pleasant to have my own house.
01:43Number 9. Gauze Gloves
01:46I should like to try something a little different tonight.
01:48Penelope's stunning,
01:50makeover spares no detail in the accessories department.
01:53Her daring dark gloves are especially unique,
01:55both for the color and the sheer gauzy fabric.
01:58Showing a glimpse of Penelope's arms,
02:00they give a hint of sex appeal while maintaining the standards of propriety.
02:05Appropriate for someone who wants to be better known in society,
02:08but still has a secret to hide, yes?
02:10Perhaps we should take our leave,
02:12lest we remain too long and give Lady Whistledown something to write about.
02:16While her social graces may not have impressed at the ball,
02:19her style clearly did.
02:21As the season goes on,
02:22more and more ladies appear with gloves that are darker,
02:25made of gauze, or both,
02:27until the sheer style starts to dominate the London ballrooms.
02:30Of course, the first ladies to adopt these gloves
02:32do so right after being seen at the modiste,
02:35so Penelope may have inspired her peers,
02:37but it's clear who really started this fad.
02:40There's no going back to the past.
02:41All one can do is be true to one's choices and look forward.
02:46Number 8. Penelope's Wicked Sisters
02:50Okay, it might be a stretch to call Prudence and Philippa Featherington wicked.
02:53They're shallow, spoiled, and clueless,
02:56but generally too self-centered to be truly belligerent.
02:59That said, the prospect of being mother to the Featherington heir
03:02brings out the worst in both of them.
03:04The first insisted we be ridding the house of the dusty books.
03:07Do not worry, I will let you keep your books in the cloakroom.
03:11It's no wonder the sisters call another unpleasant pair of siblings to mind,
03:15and it's certainly a deliberate choice.
03:17Of course.
03:18Why must I be punished? I will not have.
03:20Prudence and Philippa have worn the pink and green colors
03:22of Cinderella's Tremaine sisters before,
03:24but season three seems to feature them in variations of those colors
03:28more frequently than ever,
03:29and with their true colors,
03:31it's easy to see why they're so popular.
03:34And with their treatment of Penelope at an all-time low,
03:37it's no wonder.
03:38Is it a bit on the nose?
03:40Sure, but Subtle was never in the Featherington style guide.
03:43Everyone's staring at us.
03:45Jealousy, my love.
03:46At you, and now mine.
03:50This is my first week as Ficam Tess in my new home.
03:54Tonight is Lady Danbury's ball.
03:56I must make a good impression.
03:58Season two includes a lot of fun,
04:00Season two included some lovely references to the Sharma family's Indian culture,
04:06and season three continues celebrating Kate's heritage in some of her costuming.
04:11Not only is there a strong Indian reference in much of her jewelry,
04:14but her Danbury ball gown features a veil attached to the back,
04:18similar to a versatile Indian dupatta.
04:26Later in the season,
04:27Kate gets an elegant sari-inspired gown in Bridgerton blues.
04:30With the alternate history of the show,
04:32we get a chance to experience a Britain that embraced the diversity of its subjects.
04:36Characters raised outside of England provide so much room for creativity
04:40in reimagining the Regency.
04:42The spirit of reinvention is beautifully realized
04:44in the fusion of East and West at play in Kate's styling.
04:47You cannot imagine how charming our town in India is.
04:52This has been so long since I've ridden there.
04:54I should like to see it.
04:57Genevieve's forward-thinking fashion.
04:59Speaking of setting trends,
05:01if Genevieve's clients were paying attention,
05:03they'd realize that she may dress them for the moment,
05:05but she dresses them for the future.
05:15It's not always easy to see the details in her sensible black dress,
05:18but the sharp eye will notice a few things,
05:21like her slightly higher hem and the ruffle detailing on her skirt.
05:24She also sports a pair of very eye-catching sheer oversleeves.
05:34All of these elements would be on trend in the 1820s.
05:37For those keeping track,
05:38that's still five years off from when season three of Bridgerton takes place.
05:42Meaning Genevieve doesn't just have her finger on the pulse of fashion.
05:46She's clearly a flat-out visionary.
05:55I don't even hate you.
05:58We will make you the most beautiful dress.
06:04In the grand tradition of such things,
06:06Colin's transformation into society playboy brings an edgy new wardrobe.
06:11Mercifully, we are spared any attempt at a regency leather jacket,
06:15but his collar scheme in the early episodes of season three
06:18still evokes the classic bad boy staple.
06:20Apologies for my late arrival.
06:21I got stuck in presentation traffic.
06:25Do you not wish to greet me?
06:26When not in evening dress, Colin favors dark browns,
06:29very different from the traditional Bridgerton blues and grays.
06:33It's clear he's trying to differentiate himself from his large family
06:36as much as from his former self.
06:38Do you know what I discovered when I was abroad?
06:41No one knew me.
06:43No one knew who I was supposed to be.
06:45I was entirely freed of being the Colin Bridgerton that Tom knows me to be.
06:49However, brown is still a complementary color to blue,
06:52and we notice that his waistcoats and shirts are often in darker shades
06:56of his family's traditional colors.
06:58Colin may be trying to cover up his true self,
07:00but his clothes make it clear that at heart he remains unchanged.
07:04I do not blame you for putting on armor lately,
07:08but you must be careful that the armor does not rust
07:12and set so that you might never be able to take it off.
07:16Number four.
07:17Alice fits in and stands out.
07:19Such an unexpected new face amongst them.
07:21I believe it best to show the Tom that not everything has changed.
07:24The light tread with which Alice and Will Mondrich enter society
07:28suits them as well as Lady Kent's old dresses suit Alice.
07:31Thankfully, the pair are quick to throw out the status quo
07:34and forge their own path.
07:36Away with clothes.
07:42But I am keeping all the jewelry.
07:46There you go.
07:48Guided by Madame Delacroix's expert hand,
07:50Alice makes a splash in her stunning new wardrobe.
07:53Interestingly, in a season of costumes that stray more than ever
07:56from historical reality,
07:58Alice's are the most period accurate.
08:00I am grateful to you for keeping me company.
08:04I did not want to miss another ball,
08:06but I also was not looking forward to coming here alone.
08:09From her neoclassical inspired hair and jewelry
08:11to her clean silhouettes,
08:13she is Regency elegance personified.
08:16In short, Alice looks like she belongs in this world
08:18more than anyone else in Bridgerton society.
08:21It's a clever way to telegraph that nobility and grace
08:24are qualities that might not have anything at all to do with birth status.
08:28What have we done to earn this?
08:29Nothing.
08:30The same as every Viscount and Earl and Baron out there.
08:34Absolutely nothing.
08:36But it is ours, so let us enjoy it.
08:43Queen Charlotte has served up some jaw-dropping looks over the years,
08:46and her wigs are always works of art.
08:49But this season's swan wig sets a new standard.
09:02With its hand-painted backdrop and moving crystal swans,
09:05it could just be an incredible piece of artwork.
09:07Or it could have a deeper symbolic meaning.
09:10Perhaps this little love play will inspire my lovers tonight.
09:16The wig clearly references Swan Lake,
09:18which seems to relate to the ballet performed in the fourth episode.
09:21However, we notice two things.
09:24One, Swan Lake is famously a tale of doomed love.
09:27And two, the swan roll is being danced by a man.
09:30Is this all just reference to Charlotte's inevitably dashed hope
09:33for Francesca and the Marquis Amidani?
09:35Or perhaps foreshadowing for a different tragedy?
09:38We love an Easter egg,
09:39especially one that keeps us guessing.
09:41Step another pace backwards.
09:44You read me too well.
09:45Number 2.
09:46Cressida's Fashion Armor.
09:48Are you enjoying the evening, my lord?
09:52More than they are, to be sure.
09:54I would certainly rather be predator than prey.
09:58At last, we understand Cressida's style.
10:00In previous seasons, she stood out for her extravagant 1930s-inspired hairstyles.
10:05But this year, her entire wardrobe becomes increasingly outlandish,
10:09revealing a lot about her state of mind in the process.
10:12In the wild, certain animals will mimic flowers to draw in their prey.
10:16Cressida, in her aggressively floral-fashioned confections,
10:20appears to be doing the same.
10:22Especially when her target is such a nature enthusiast.
10:25It is only you do not seem to care for nature.
10:28Or for animals.
10:30Both of which are apparently his great passion.
10:31I care very dearly for animals.
10:34I love a good fur.
10:35Oh, I would not tell him that.
10:36The more desperate she becomes,
10:38the more bombastic her sleeves and mounds of tulle flowers.
10:41It feels like an attempt to both attract her target and hide her weakness.
10:45We see an attempt at self-protection in an interesting neckpiece,
10:48halfway between a corset and a suit of armor's gorget.
10:51The season is a battle for Cressida Kalper,
10:54and she's going in with the only shields society will allow her.
10:58Good.
11:02Your father was just ousted from his club because of all of this.
11:08He is withdrawing your dowry.
11:10Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
11:14Colin's cravat.
11:15Did the pale green shade inspire Penelope?
11:18Or is this another sign that they're meant to be?
11:20Why not both?
11:21That was all the rage in Paris.
11:24You look distinguished, but then again you always have.
11:27Penelope's earrings.
11:29With their quill-pen shape,
11:30Penelope carries a hint of her secret identity out in the open.
11:34And why do I have the feeling that you, in turn,
11:36know how to make one wither, if you so choose?
11:41Me?
11:42Francesca's gauze gloves.
11:43The only other person sporting the accessory at the Danbury Ball
11:46is also someone hoping to hide in plain sight.
11:49But with no dark secret, hers are light instead of black.
11:53I did not expect to be inspected as if I were some rare insect
11:57writhing under a microscope.
12:00You do not much like attracting notice, do you?
12:03Not really.
12:04No.
12:05Violet for Violet.
12:06Not only does the show hint at her asserting an independent identity
12:09with her own clothes, but John's toast to Violet is underscored
12:13by all the ladies wearing her namesake color.
12:15In this moment, when I feel so much gratitude for my new wife,
12:18I feel it in equal measure for the remarkable woman who raised her.
12:24I thank you.

12:41Number 1.
12:42Penelope's Color Story
12:44I do not wish to see a citrus color ever again.
12:48Sour colors indeed.
12:49Penelope's first step in reinvention is to ditch the loud Featherington color scheme
12:54in favor of soft greens and dreamy blues.
12:57Not only are they infinitely more flattering,
12:59but they fit in nicely with the aesthetic of a certain household.
13:03I mentioned you were comfortable at Bridgeton House,
13:06so we're going to practice here.
13:08I was comfortable at Bridgeton House previously.
13:10We needed a place to be alone.
13:12Here, your maid can wait outside, and we can pretend we're at a ball.
13:17While there may have been some subconscious choice in that on Penelope's part,
13:20another fashion moment reveals fate at work.
13:23Penelope's dramatic dark teal gown from the Danbury Ball
13:26stands out from her subsequent wardrobe.
13:28But when Colin brings her to visit their new home,
13:30the color of the walls seems too similar for mere coincidence.
13:34Clothes can tell us a lot about a person,
13:36and this seems like the show saying Penelope was always meant to be Colin's home,
13:40which is punctuated when she appears in a similar color in the final episode.
13:45My only purpose in life is to love a woman as great as you.
13:52And I will be a very fulfilled man indeed.
13:54Who gave us the season's most stunning fashion moment?
13:57Share your thoughts in the comments.
13:59It is Lady Whistledown!
