00:00This week, Apple made some major announcements at its Worldwide Developer Conference
00:04that'll impact tech users across the globe.
00:06I'm Jordyn Hart, and I'm going to tell you the tea that happened at WWDC.
00:14Some of my tea water.
00:16Okay, let's start with iOS 18.
00:19Some of the most talked about features that iOS 18 will make possible
00:22are the changes to the messaging app.
00:24You can schedule messages, make them bold, italics, format them how you want.
00:29Another amazing feature is tap-to-cash.
00:31You can tap your phones to a friend to send them money or receive it
00:35without having to track them down after dinner and get them to send their part.
00:38A few other things coming along with iOS 18 include
00:41an updated map, a more customizable home screen,
00:45and a whole new photo library that's much more easy to search your photos.
00:50If you're like me, you have embarrassingly over 10,000 pictures
00:54in your photo library right now,
00:56and Apple is making it so much easier to search those photos,
00:59identify folks in your library, and find those pictures
01:03way faster than just scrolling and scrolling and scrolling and scrolling some more.
01:08Next up, we have Apple Intelligence,
01:10which is Apple's official entrance into the AI arms race.
01:14Apple Intelligence will make using your device so much easier
01:17with new features like custom emojis called Genmojis,
01:20an image generator, email summarization in the Mail app,
01:24a math notes feature that will allow you to use your Apple Pencil
01:27to write out math equations and quickly get an answer,
01:30and an all-new AI-powered Siri.
01:32A lot of these features will be available on-device,
01:35and for more complex requests, Apple has Private Cloud Compute,
01:38a way to send your questions to a larger AI model without risking your privacy.
01:43Apple promises that your personal data was not used to train Apple Intelligence.
01:48This will set a new privacy standard in AI,
01:50which has been a big concern for users
01:52who wonder if AI models are using their personal data to train.
01:55All these new features are great,
01:57but to have the full capabilities of Apple Intelligence,
02:00you'll need to have an iPhone 15 Pro or later.
02:03So if you're like me and just upgraded your phone last year,
02:05you're probably going to miss out on the cool new AI phone stuff.
02:09Next up is Siri, who's getting some AI superpowers.
02:12She'll be able to add something to your Notes app,
02:14update a friend's contact card,
02:16navigate through apps, handle more complex requests,
02:19or find a photo in your photo library for you.
02:22It's because she has on-screen awareness,
02:24so she'll be able to handle much more complex tasks.
02:26But be warned, Siri will look a little bit different in iOS 18.
02:30Instead of popping up as a bubble on your screen,
02:32she'll highlight the whole frame in a ring of light.
02:35I've been an iPhone owner since Siri was first introduced,
02:37and I have to be honest, I don't really use it for that much.
02:40It's much easier for me to go to Safari and look something up myself.
02:43But with an AI-powered Siri,
02:45I think I would reach for her a lot more to help me with my day-to-day tasks on my phone.
02:49And that brings us to our last topic,
02:51OpenAI and Apple's partnership.
02:53Apple didn't get too much into it at the WWDC keynote,
02:56but details about the partnership are emerging.
02:58What we do know is, is that Apple has integrated Chat GPT into Mac and iOS devices
03:03to allow Siri to handle the harder questions.
03:06But Apple emphasized that you're in control.
03:08If you don't want Siri to tell Chat GPT your question, you don't have to.
03:12Sources say that neither Apple nor OpenAI are paying each other in this partnership.
03:17Instead, they say that since Siri is integrated with Chat GPT,
03:20more users will naturally start to use the chatbot.
03:23This deal has been teased for weeks,
03:24and personally, I was expecting a little bit more from OpenAI.
03:27But I'm excited that Siri is getting some high-powered backup from Chat GPT.
03:32So we've covered the highlights of WWDC,
03:34but Apple announced a plethora of cool updates,
03:37including iPadOS 18, Max Sequoia, and more.
03:40In fact, I live-logged the whole thing.
03:42Check out the recap on our website.
