00:12Pope Francis joins world leaders on the second day of the G7 summit.
00:22Nigel Farage's Reform Party gains traction among former conservative voters.
00:30Russian President Vladimir Putin said a ceasefire could be brokered with Ukraine if Kiev renounces its plans to join NATO and withdraws troops from areas annexed by Moscow.
00:49Ukrainian troops should be completely withdrawn from Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
01:00I am referring to the entire territory of these regions within their administrative borders that existed at the time of their entry into Ukraine.
01:10As soon as Kiev declares that it is ready to make such a decision and begins a real withdrawal of troops from these regions,
01:17and also officially announces its refusal to join NATO,
01:22we will immediately, literally in the same minute, follow the order to cease fire and start negotiations.
01:29Putin delivered the comments during a speech at the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow.
01:35Ukrainian and NATO officials have rejected the proposal, saying it is not a real offer for peace.
01:44Pope Francis was welcomed by Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Maloney in southern Italy where the annual G7 summit is taking place.
01:54In a first for the Pope, Francis will address the leaders of the G7.
02:00He is expected to call for more safeguards on AI following a boom in generative artificial intelligence.
02:07The second day of the summit was devoted to Africa, China and AI.
02:12Right-wing leader Giorgio Maloney is known for her hard-line stance on migration
02:18and is keen to increase investment and funding for African nations in order to reduce migration pressure on Europe.
02:26At the opening of the summit, the leaders also announced a $50 billion loan to Ukraine
02:33and an agreement on the use of frozen Russian assets to help Kiev.
02:38The summit hosts leaders of leading industrialized nations and will last three days in the Italian region of Puglia.
02:49Hundreds of Cubans and tourists lined up to board a Russian warship on Thursday.
02:55The ship was part of a fleet that carried out military maneuvers in the Atlantic.
03:00Cuban and Russian authorities agreed to allow citizens access to the flagship which arrived the day before,
03:06accompanied by a nuclear-powered submarine.
03:09Children, women and men of all ages awaited their turn.
03:13I've always been a lover of all these things.
03:16I like to see military marches, all these events. I like to see them and I like to be well informed.
03:21The chance to board ships of different nationalities arriving in the Bay of Havana is quite usual.
03:27It's just a visit. I don't think it's a threat to the United States.
03:32As for the Russian fleet, Cuban authorities confirmed that it would be docked in Havana until June 17.
03:39U.S. officials downplayed the danger of the visit but said they would closely follow every move of the Russian military vessels.
03:50Like many English coastal communities, Skegness is a seaside resort where the economy continues to struggle.
04:00Immigration remains a key issue.
04:03But many are now turning to the Labour Party for answers, while others shift further right.
04:11Nigel Farage's Reform Party is gaining traction among former Conservative voters.
04:25I think that Reform will take a lot of votes off the Tories, which will probably result in a Labour victory.
04:32And how will you be voting?
04:34Conservative.
04:35In terms of Nigel Farage, does he appeal to you at all?
04:38Mr. Farage? I think he's a bit of a... I don't know.
04:41He's a clown.
04:42A clown? I think he's just... Oh, yes. There's a bit of bravado with him. I'd beat my chest and stuff like that.
04:50Skegness is a typical eastern coastal community and it mirrors a trend across England's coastline.
04:55Once 77% Tory at the last election, it's now leaning Labour.
05:00Right-wingers here are handing the seat to Labour by splitting the vote between the Conservatives and Nigel Farage's Reform Party.
05:08The most recent poll shows Labour at 45%, the Tories at 22% and Reform at 13%.
05:15So is this likely to push the Conservative Party further right beyond the general election?
05:22The future could rest on the success of a now likely Labour government.
05:27When economies don't do very well, it becomes really tempting to make lump sum blame or to find a scapegoat.
05:34Dr. Veronica Lamarche is a social psychologist at the University of Essex who's studied British right-wing populism.
05:41I think Nigel Farage can present a really simplistic picture of what the future of Britain could look like.
05:47Fundamental to Reform's ideology, people coming into the UK and blaming them for all the troubles that we see in the country at the moment.
05:56A vote for the Reform Party could give Labour an enormous majority in early July.
06:01How the Conservative Party reacts is something Nigel Farage is already second-guessing.
06:10Luke Hanrahan, Euronews, Skegness.
06:18Yemen's Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for missile attacks on three ships in the Arabian and Red Seas.
06:26The attacks were carried out using ballistic missiles and drones and all successfully hit their targets.
06:33A spokesperson for the group said the first attack in the Arabian Sea caused the ship to catch fire.
06:40The Houthis launched attacks on Red Sea shipping they believe is linked to Israel in November in solidarity with Palestine.
06:54A fire has broken out in the Bru cargo freight zone at Brussels airport.
06:59Firefighters say the blaze started at around 4pm local time.
07:04The cause of the fire and what was in the building where it started are still unknown.
07:09People living near the airport have been advised to remain indoors and keep their windows closed.
07:15But officials said it hadn't affected airport operations and passenger flights were departing and arriving normally.
07:28Spain's civil guard says it smashed one of Europe's biggest cocaine smuggling rings.
07:34Agents working on information from forces across Europe and South America launched a sting on Wednesday,
07:40seizing houses, cash and making several arrests.
07:44According to Europol, the arrests have disrupted a network behind a multi-tonne cocaine trafficking operation from South America to the EU.
07:52The suspects reportedly exploited maritime shipping routes through hubs in West Africa and the Canary Islands.
08:00The pilgrimage to Mecca, which every Muslim must perform at least once in their life as long as they have the physical and financial abilities to do so, began this Friday in Saudi Arabia.
08:13One of the five pillars of Islam, the Hajj is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, this year overshadowed by the war in Gaza.
08:22But it is also a thriving economic opportunity in Saudi Arabia.
08:27Hotels, restaurants and shops around the Great Mosque are full.
08:31The trade is excellent, the markets are excellent, the pilgrims receive gifts from the most honoured place on earth.
08:47They buy from here for the blessings.
08:52More than a million and a half pilgrims had arrived in the country on Tuesday.
08:56This year the pilgrimage is expected to bring between 10 and 15 million euro to the country.
09:09A street in The Hague has been painted orange as fans prepare for a month of football with the 2024 euros.
09:17Marktveg is one of several streets in the Netherlands that get an all-encompassing orange facelift during European Championships and World Cups.
09:26A team of 10 volunteers spent two months painting the neighbourhood.
09:31The Netherlands national team is known as Oranje, the name of the Dutch royal family and the colour of their strips.
09:39The Tartan army is out in force in Munich as Scotland faces Germany in the opening match of the 2024 euros.
09:47It's the start of a month of football that will take place in 10 cities across Germany.
09:53Head coach Steve Clarke said he was confident his side would deliver the goods as Scotland looks to qualify for the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time.
10:04We believe we can get a result every time we go to the pitch, otherwise what's the point of going to the pitch?
10:10So we've prepared well, we think we're ready and hopefully you see that tomorrow night.
10:16Scotland showed during the qualifying campaign it can surprise beating Spain and Norway.
10:22But they've only won one of their last 13 matches against Germany and that was more than 25 years ago.
10:30One nil in a friendly in 1999.
10:35Things were more muted in the Germany camp, possibly due to a series of recent defeats.
10:42Germany went out at the group stages of both the previous World Cups and were eliminated by England at Euro 2020.
10:51I think they're going to be very uncomfortable, but they're also going to play well.
10:56So it's important not to underestimate them.
11:00I have a lot of respect for them, but we know what we can do, that we have a lot of qualities.
11:08If we manage to reach our potential, I'm confident we'll win the game tomorrow.
11:16And someone else who's confident of a win for the German side is Bubi, an African elephant who lives in a reserve in Thuringia.
11:24She hoofed a ball upfield into a goal marked with the German flag, confidently predicting victory for Germany against Scotland.
11:3224 teams from across Europe will play in a total of 51 matches before the final in Berlin on July 14th.
