00:00Three of our overseas Filipino workers were burned in Kuwait.
00:06After the incident, we will talk to Arnel Ignacio,
00:12the Administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
00:17Sir Arnel, good afternoon.
00:20Good afternoon. I'm sorry, I'm in Japan.
00:25Sir, it's saddening what happened in Kuwait.
00:28We asked for an update on our three OFWs
00:31who were on their way to the burned building in Kuwait.
00:36Yes, our three OFWs were Jesus Lopez, Edwin Petilla, and Jeffrey Katubay.
00:43The first thing we did was to call our regional directors.
00:51From the very start of this crisis, our welfare officer was assigned to Kuwait.
01:02There were 11 Filipinos in that building.
01:08Five were safe, one was hospitalized but was released, and two were in the ICU.
01:18Sir, how is the situation of the other affected OFWs?
01:24Some of our unaffected OFWs were transferred to another accommodation.
01:33Two of them, Michael Dizon and Julio Montemayor, were in the ICU.
01:40One of them, Mario, was discharged from the hospital.
01:44What is the assistance of the government to the affected OFWs, especially to the children of the affected?
01:52As I've said earlier, before the families went there,
01:57only two of the affected are not active OWA members.
02:01The other one is active.
02:03So the full benefits that they will receive, the OWA will take care of that.
02:08For the others, we accompanied their needs in Kuwait.
02:13What they can expect is that we will not save anything when it comes to helping our countrymen in this situation.
02:25We're very, very quick on acting on the needs of our OFWs.
02:31The repatriation remains in the process.
02:37In another discussion, we have a question from Maricel Halili of TV5.
02:43What is the government doing to ensure the safety of Filipinos in MV Tutor,
02:50the ship that was attacked by the Houthi rebels in the Red Sea?
02:55When it comes to this, we defer to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
03:00But the last thing I heard is that our countrymen are safe,
03:05but it would be better if the DFA is in charge when it comes to this.
03:10Okay.
03:11Just a follow-up question.
03:13When do you expect the Philippines to bring back the victims of the attacks of our countrymen, sir?
03:19We haven't been able to give an exact date since what happened was only yesterday.
03:27So what we can promise is that we will be able to do this quickly.
03:32We are focusing on this.
03:34According to our record, I don't think we have any news that we will be delayed in delivering services.
03:41So our countrymen are hopeful that this will be resolved immediately.
03:47Let me go back to the hospital.
03:49How many more victims are in the hospital?
03:53Two.
03:54Are they still in critical condition?
03:58They are in the ICU.
04:01So we're just waiting for updates on the two of them.
04:07Okay. Thank you very much.
04:09Do you have any reminders for our countrymen, especially for our OFWs?
04:16To our countrymen,
04:19as you know, OWA, DMW and DFA are helping each other to meet the needs of our OFWs as quickly as possible,
04:30just like what happened here.
04:33This happened at 4.30 p.m. on the same day that we were there.
04:37Our countrymen are monitoring our needs.
04:42We are asking you to trust us.
04:46You can join our institutions in place to meet your needs.
04:54That's what you can count on.
04:57Thank you very much for your time, Sir Arnel Ignacio,
05:00the Administrator of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration or OWA.
