00:19Bridgerton has always relied on classic tropes.
00:22We started strong with Daphne and Simon's fake courtship,
00:25but then went to a whole new level with Kate and Anthony's enemies-to-lovers story.

00:33I'm convinced that deer prefer the edge of the forest.
00:37This is much too open out here.
00:38Enemies-to-lovers can be a tricky trope to get right,
00:41since you don't want to make the character so adversarial
00:44that we can't believe they're going to fall in love.
00:47But Anthony's take on this trope was perfect,
00:49and it guided the story from the beginning
00:51all the way through to their bickering in their Season 3 scenes.

01:47as opposed to Canthony's high drama.

02:02Colin had two seasons to build up their relationship,

02:40Hearts across the globe began to beat a little faster
02:42when the first promotional images for Bridgerton Season 3 came out.

02:48We were all surprised by Luke Newton's makeover,
02:50as the boyish Bridgerton was left behind
02:52in favor of a more rugged, world-weary Colin.
02:56Newton grew out his sideburns and ditched the quiff for a more mature vibe.
03:00Like Simon before him, Colin often abandons the Regency's lavish scarves
03:04for a rebellious open-collar look that sends the taun wild.

03:10He changes so much that his siblings barely recognize him
03:13when he arrives at the beginning, charming everybody he meets.

03:21Anthony, on the other hand, didn't have the same transformation.
03:25In fact, Jonathan Bailey cut his hair and sideburns between Season 1 and Season 2,
03:30making him look maybe a little too modern.
03:32His wardrobe certainly improved though,
03:35with the show putting him in even darker colors
03:37to fit with his reputation as London's most notorious rake.
03:40Other than that though, Anthony's appearance changed very little.
03:44Though personality-wise, we love a man who learns to connect with his feelings.

03:52After all, this is the season the Viscount intends to find a wife.

03:59And we also can't blame him for changing his hair
04:01after that devastating breakup with Sienna.

04:12Colin easily puts Anthony to shame here, and we hope that in Season 4,
04:16Anthony takes a few fashion tips from his younger brother
04:18to break out of that stuffy Regency mold.

04:23Round 3. Heroism.
04:30Anthony was the picture of gallant when, in Season 2's penultimate episode,
04:35he rode through the rain to ask Kate to marry him,
04:37only for her to fall and hit her head.
04:43Anthony carried her through the storm and got her to safety,
04:46and it's not clear whether she'd have survived if he hadn't been there.
04:55This is undeniably the most heroic thing to have happened in Bridgerton thus far,
05:00and we're glad Netflix didn't make us wait to see whether Kate would be okay.
05:03Anthony also put his life on the line to duel Simon for Daphne's honor.
05:07While dueling is completely ridiculous,
05:10Anthony was still trying to be a gentleman, however misguided.
05:14Colin got his own heroic moment in Season 3 Part 1, though,
05:18when the Ton all goes to see a hot air balloon.
05:20While the Dankwerts are attempting to liaise behind a tent,
05:24a rope tying the balloon comes loose on an extraordinarily windy afternoon.

05:35As the balloon comes undone, Colin is first to seize the ropes.
05:39Penelope's life is saved when Colin just barely manages to hold back the basket,
05:43though it's hard to say that this entire scene wasn't extremely contrived.
05:54It's also difficult to say whether Penelope was in any real danger,
05:58even if the basket had hit her.
06:00It was a poor replacement compared to Kate's fall,
06:03and the wind is never as romantic as it was in the first season.
06:09Well done, Bridgerton.
06:11We have to give it to Anthony this time.
06:13Rescuing someone from a head injury is much more serious than rescuing them from a balloon.

06:23Season 3 has leaned into rom-com tropes more than the previous two,
06:27though much of Simon and Daphne's fake dating shenanigans definitely fit.

07:05And while Eloise may be the funniest Bridgerton of all,

07:42This isn't surprising,
07:43considering a huge part of Anthony's character
07:45is his trauma over his father's death.
07:48But who can honestly say they don't want a partner who makes them laugh?
07:51We're usually laughing at Anthony for how ridiculous he's being,
07:55rather than with him,
07:56and it's not a character trait that can be overlooked.

08:03Luckily, Kate has enough humor for both of them.

09:28Who knew that a bangle falling to the floor could cause so much drama?
