00:00 Are you all ready to make history?
00:02 [cheering]
00:05 Can we hear it for this incredible historic cast?
00:08 Comedy is the one thing.
00:10 Getting in there saying, we can all laugh at this.
00:14 I'm snoring now.
00:15 How do I know?
00:17 Because my wife records it.
00:19 [laughter]
00:20 [music playing]
00:24 All kinds of comedy is accepted now.
00:26 I never thought it would be possible in my lifetime.
00:29 I love being in a room full of 50 people
00:31 and somebody just beelines past 49 people and is like,
00:34 hey, what are your pronouns?
00:36 [laughter]
00:39 When I was a young comic, you had
00:41 to be careful what you did and who you talked to and who knew.
00:45 It wasn't accepted to say you were gay on stage.
00:50 There was a time where comedy was
00:52 very accepting of homophobia.
00:57 When I first started doing comedy,
00:59 I thought that I might be a stand-up,
01:01 but I discovered very early on that that was not possible.
01:06 Many of the other comics would tell me
01:07 to stop talking about gay stuff.
01:09 Next time someone says to you, you choose to be a lesbian,
01:12 say, no, no, no.
01:13 I was chosen.
01:14 Every word is a bullet.
01:19 You are a loaded weapon, and everything you say
01:22 can find a target that doesn't really want to hear that.
01:26 It was scary for people.
01:29 They had to be in the closet to protect their career
01:31 and then had to make that difficult decision.
01:34 I'm going to be out.
01:35 I'm not hiding it anymore.
01:36 It was like enough already.
01:37 Things have got to change.
01:38 Things have got to evolve.
01:40 [heartbeat]
01:42 We will be free!
01:43 We shall be free!
01:45 Because we are everywhere!
01:48 Humor was an important part of the movement.
01:50 I was like, am I gay?
01:53 Am I straight?
01:55 And I realized I'm just slutty.
01:57 [laughter]
01:58 [music playing]
02:00 Hello, my queers!
02:03 Queer people taught America to stop being scared of us
02:06 by making jokes.
02:08 It's been such a journey.
02:10 There's a lot of people who've come before us.
02:13 Queer comics, queer history, that all
02:18 deserves to be talked about.
02:22 Now is the time where people can.
