00:06at the age of 86. The Los Angeles Clippers, where he worked as an executive, confirms
00:11his death on Wednesday, June 12. It says the 14-time NBA All-Star passed away peacefully
00:17with his wife Karen by his side.
00:19West, who played as a shooting guard, led the Los Angeles Lakers to nine NBA Finals.
00:25He remains the only person named Most Valuable Player of the Championship Series despite
00:30playing for the losing team. He won the award in 1969. He was also the co-captain of the
00:351960 U.S. men's basketball team, which won the Olympic gold medal.
00:40After his playing career, West, whose other nickname was The Logo, went on to become one
00:45of the NBA's top executives.
00:47In 2019, West was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by U.S. President Donald
00:51Trump.
