The two key questions that remain after Labour's manifesto launch
Transcript
00:00So it was a Labour's manifesto today and Sir Keir Starmer had a few core messages
00:06stability
00:08Economic growth and wealth creation. There were no fireworks today in his speech in Manchester
00:13Instead he stuck very much to his core messages on the NHS, on education, on tackling illegal immigration
00:21Antisocial behavior and trying to get people's energy bills down
00:24So it was very very much a steady as you go announcement
00:28But there are two big questions that remain so the whole economic plan that he announced is based on getting a healthy
00:36Economic growth and now in recent years that hasn't happened partly due to the Covid pandemic
00:43Partly due to Putin's war in Ukraine and also the economic and political turmoil in recent years particularly under Liz Trutter's
00:51Administration so that question remains and if you can't get economic growth, then do you need tax rises now?
00:58Sir Keir has ruled out several tax rises including to income tax
01:03National insurance and VAT, but there are others that he hasn't ruled out. Overall though Keir Starmer
01:09Didn't need a game changer today according to the polls. He is heading into number 10 unless something dramatic happens this election
