An earlier investigation found that over 8,000 BMW Mini Coopers contained components made by the Chinese firm Sichuan Jingweida Technology Group, on a US list of entities using forced labor. The US passed the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act in 2021 to ban goods from China's Xinjiang region where over 1 million Uyghurs have allegedly been detained.
