00:00If an alien civilization came to Earth and found the everyday items of extinct humans,
00:08they would likely have difficulty figuring out the purpose of many of them.
00:11Well, the same goes for many items discovered in an archaeological context, even those discovered
00:16by the species who made them, like these stone balls from the Neolithic period found all
00:21over Scotland.
00:22They are believed to be upwards of 3,200 years old, with more than 425 of them having been
00:28found at burial sites and within towns.
00:30They are also all different in their detailed design, but no one has any idea what they
00:34were used for.
00:35Similarly, these dodecahedra that were crafted in the late Roman period, or between the years
00:4043 and 410 CE, have been found in great quantities in Britain, around 130 to date.
00:47Experts say they have never found any evidence of their use in ancient texts or art.
00:51These drums were also discovered in England, with five of them having been found so far.
00:55They appear to be drums made of chalk, however experts say they were not used as instruments
00:59as they show no typical wear from such activity.
01:02Several of them were found buried with the remains of children, and their markings are
01:05quite similar to the previously mentioned Neolithic stone balls, yet their purpose also
01:10remains unknown.
01:11Just like these Bronze Age lock rings, they have often been found in pairs and could have
01:15been jewelry, however archaeologists say they would have been very difficult and uncomfortable
01:20to wear.
