00:30 - So what's interesting about this fight TJ
00:31 is when speaking with Jose, Jose said
00:34 that he's actually sparred Jorge before.
00:37 He said he sparred him and doesn't remember the sparring
00:40 which tells him a lot that he wasn't that good.
00:44 And so he wants to come out and prove mostly to himself
00:48 that he can overcome and accomplish anything.
00:51 - You mentioned Maravillo's upbringing
00:53 with a single mother.
00:55 - Yes.
00:56 - He had a brother that he said he fought
00:58 a lot of rounds in the backyard.
00:59 Got him ready for this fight.
01:00 We got a co-main event later tonight.

01:03 He takes on Christian Robles.
01:05 And it all leads up to our main event.

01:14 - Maravillo comes out with fantastic footwork
01:16 throwing a beautiful triple jab here and just peppering
01:20 throwing a little salt and pepper in it TJ.
01:23 Jorge has had 25 amateur fights.
01:25 So he has, although he's young in his professional career
01:29 he does have a lot of experience in boxing.
01:32 - Maravillo said he started training at 11 years old
01:34 and that doesn't again include the fights he had
01:37 in the backyard with his brother.
01:39 Gomez very tough.
01:43 He's got a 500 record
01:44 but he nearly won a very close split decision earlier
01:48 this year at Hollywood Fight Nights.
01:51 And he's very confident.
01:53 And you know, a lot of that probably has to do
01:55 with the amount of time he's put in
01:56 with Nate Diaz and company in Stockton.
01:59 - Absolutely.
02:00 I mean, that's what he prides himself on
02:02 is being a hard worker and being resilient.
02:05 And so that plays right into training at the Nate Diaz camp.
02:08 They're all tough guys over there
02:11 and they pride themselves in being tough and real fighters.
02:15 And so, yeah, that's a perfect environment
02:18 I believe for Jose.
02:22 But both gentlemen right now are getting their jab off
02:24 in this first round here, both finding homes.
02:28 As you see, Jorge is starting to kind of utilize his movement
02:31 and maneuver around some of these punches.
02:33 And he's looking good.
02:35 He's got some class to him, TJ.
02:37 - Maravillo coming off a fight
02:39 where he went the distance for the first time in his career.
02:41 He talked a lot about, you know, controlled aggression
02:43 and making sure that he, you know,
02:44 keeps the pace fast and furious.
02:47 But he said he was really confident going the distance
02:49 for the first time, picked up a lot of information
02:52 and plans on using that moving forward.

05:49 And your thoughts on what you've seen here at Jumash?
05:54 - Thus far is correct.
05:57 This has been a great fight night.
06:00 And as far as what I see now,
06:02 either whichever guy right now start doubling up
06:05 and be more consistent,
06:06 it's going to be the guy who take over this fight.
06:08 - Absolutely. Halfway point of round number two.
06:11 You've worked with some of the great fighters, you know,
06:14 of this generation, Vladimir Klitschko, Triple G,
06:17 and you're very familiar with Tom Laughlin.
06:20 You know, what Tom is doing with Hollywood Fight Nights,
06:22 it's really different in the boxing world,
06:24 which is why I think it's landed here on UFC Fight Pass.
06:26 Tom has really competitive fights, no real gimme fights,
06:30 and that always makes for a great show.
06:32 - I think that's the beauty of it, is no gimme fights.
06:35 Everyone comes out with a competitive fight.
06:37 I don't care if a guy's all one versus a guy all one,
06:39 they both are competitive fights.
06:41 No one has to match one before it already starts,
06:45 and I think that's the beauty of it.
06:48 - Inside the final minute of round number two.
06:50 Pearl, you think there's a front runner
06:53 in this round as well?
06:54 - You know, it's interesting,
06:55 because both men are kind of neck and neck, none,
06:58 neither one is willing to take the gas pedal,
07:01 to step on it and take this fight to the next level.
07:04 And that's what needs to be done.
07:05 They're both landing good shots here,
07:07 but no one is kind of willing to step in
07:10 and take over this fight in this moment.
07:12 - Jonathan, what would you do
07:16 if you were in the corner of Maravillo,
07:18 the man in the yellow and black?
07:19 What advice would you be giving him here in between rounds?
07:22 - To both fighters, I'd say whoever double up
07:24 and be more consistent is gonna take over this fight.
07:27 Everybody going tick for tack.
07:28 Start doubling up, be more consistent,
07:30 and you take over the fight.
07:32 - Doubling up on the jab to the body is Gomez.
07:34 - As you see, he keep coming forward,
07:38 he doubling up, now he's taking over.
07:40 - Gomez, he's gonna be headstrong
07:41 and to that second round.
07:43 (crowd cheering)
07:45 Gomez got it right, stopped throwing when the bell sounded,
07:47 which was an improvement after the first round.
07:49 But, you know, even training with the Diaz camp,
07:52 those guys are mental fighters,
07:53 mental warfare kind of being their specialty.
07:56 You know he's gonna be headstrong.
07:57 And, you know, I think the momentum,
07:59 like you mentioned, Jonathan,
08:00 it might be in his corner a little bit,
08:02 at least the way that the second round ended.
08:04 - Yes, if he can start off the way the round ended,
08:09 the way the last round ended,
08:10 I think he'll be in, we'll be in for a good treat.

08:16 - And I believe that Jose Gomez is stepping up.
08:20 - Flex Lewis in the crowd,
08:21 a big supporter of Callum Walsh,
08:23 the undefeated seven time Mr. Olympia.
08:26 - That's amazing.
08:28 Jose Gomez, I do believe,
08:30 as towards the end of that round,
08:31 was starting to put the pressure on,
08:33 was starting to step forward.
08:34 And, you know, people,
08:36 there's this unspoken language between two fighters
08:39 inside of here that is kind of hard to describe.
08:42 It's kind of hard to even read.
08:43 It's the presence and who has the stronger presence.
08:46 And I do believe at this moment,
08:48 Jose Manuel Gomez is trying to impose his will
08:52 in this moment here and impose his experience.
08:57 Because he is the older fighter,
08:58 he has more experience.
08:59 And Madavia has to show him
09:03 that I am not at all intimidated
09:04 and I will not back down.
09:05 I am the future.
09:08 - Madavia, we mentioned in his last fight, guys,
09:09 he went the distance for the first time.
09:11 And, you know, he's gonna call upon that experience
09:13 in this fight.
09:14 'Cause as you mentioned,
09:15 he's got a very tough experienced guy in there with him
09:17 and Jose Manuel Gomez,
09:18 who's not gonna go away easily.
09:20 And Madavia, he's better for having that experience,
09:23 going the distance for the first time
09:25 and measuring that aggression, the output, Jonathan.
09:28 It's something that you have to make sure
09:30 you don't overdo early and fade down the stretch.
09:33 - Well, that's the whole purpose
09:35 of being in training camp and being in shape.
09:36 You can start off,
09:38 the each guy right now,
09:40 how they start off the round
09:41 is not how they finish the round.
09:43 You know, and that's the whole key to victory.
09:46 For the younger fighter,
09:47 how you start the round means a lot,
09:50 but how you finish it means even more to your opponent.
09:54 - You know, I think a lot of people
09:55 that maybe don't understand combat sports
09:57 and the scoring system is,
09:58 the way the 10 point must system works
10:00 is every round is like a different fight in its own.
10:03 And you have to make sure that you make those statements
10:05 if you wanna earn a judge's decision.
10:07 Nice left hand find to home there from Maravio.
10:10 But you know, you have to go into every round
10:13 knowing that even if momentum is on your side,
10:15 you guys really have to make a statement
10:17 to play to those judges.
10:19 - I agree 100%.
10:20 Every round is almost like the first round.
10:22 Every round should be like the first round,
10:24 start all over again.
10:26 Build on everything you did the previous round
10:29 and continue to build
10:30 until you either get a knockout or to the end of the fight.
10:33 - And Maravio expressed that he wanted pure domination.
10:37 That's not happening right now.
10:39 And if that's what he wanted,
10:40 he really needs to enforce and impose his will
10:45 because Manuel is landing some big, excuse me,
10:49 Jose is landing some big shots in here
10:51 in between getting caught with big shots.
10:53 But he's stepping forward.
10:55 He's showing Maravio that I'm here
10:58 and Maravio has to take that from him.
11:00 He has every skill needed to do so.
11:02 - Catch and shoot!
11:03 That catch and shoot out there!
11:04 - And Gomez, he liked the idea of being the underdog.
11:07 He's been the underdog before.
11:08 He doesn't mind playing spoiler.
11:10 And you know, despite being the underdog on paper,
11:13 very confident and he's bringing the fight here
11:15 to Maravio as much as he can.
11:16 - 100%, I agree.
11:17 He's the underdog and he's loving every bit of it.
11:20 - Maravio has the better footwork,
11:23 has the better movement.
11:24 And he's not utilizing that.
11:26 When you're going punch for punch
11:27 and you're going against an athlete
11:29 who's as strong, if not stronger,
11:31 utilize your skills.
11:32 And he has the ability to move this fight
11:34 wherever he wants to, to pull him, to push him.
11:37 And he's not utilizing his skill right now
11:39 that he has and that's his footwork.
11:41 - I think Maravio, he has the pressure movement.
11:44 I wouldn't say better, but it's pressure.
11:46 - Pressure, I like that.
11:47 - And since it is pressure,
11:48 he needs to continue to do it
11:50 because what his opponent is actually doing
11:53 is he's seeing that he's slowing down
11:55 and he's picking up where he's slowing down.
11:57 So all he's doing is capitalizing
11:59 on where he's slowing down.

12:05 As you see Gomez putting the pressure on,
12:08 coming in and landing these big, short combinations
12:12 and found much success in this.
12:14 Maravio though has this fantastic footwork
12:17 and is the lengthier fighter.
12:19 And this is what I'm talking about
12:21 where he needs to try to adjust a little bit here
12:24 and see if he can pull,
12:25 see if he can frustrate with footwork
12:27 or movement.

13:20 but what Gomez is doing, Gomez is not playing chess.
13:23 Gomez is playing dice.
13:24 He's trying to see what he can come up with.
13:27 Whatever he wants to, whatever Maravio does,
13:30 he's trying to see what can he come up with,
13:32 'cause he's not really sure.
13:33 It's obvious that Maravio is the better fighter,
13:36 but Gomez is trying to see, he's rolling the dice,
13:38 see what can I come up with,
13:40 what mistakes is he gonna make.
13:41 - Don't go straight back, Junior.
13:44 - Maravio's been utilizing that jab here
13:46 in this fourth round.
13:48 - Gomez's success, I found, is in his pressure
13:53 here and in his willingness to step inside the pocket,
13:57 to take the shots, to land his.
14:00 And he's just imposing his will here.
14:03 And he's doing a fantastic job.
14:05 And you have to believe that coming from a Diaz camp,
14:08 you have to believe he's gonna step forward
14:10 and step forward and step forward.

17:07 but coming and following the back with the right hand.
17:09 'Cause as long as he come in and out
17:11 with the jab leading first,
17:12 he's always gonna be a step ahead of Gomez.
17:17 - And for Gomez, what does he need to do
17:18 to try to turn the tide in his favor?
17:20 - You gotta put pressure on this kid.
17:21 He can't stand on the outside.
17:22 The key to this pressure,
17:23 his pressure legs, pressure movement.
17:25 If Gomez wanted a chance to win in this fight,
17:27 he need to come forward and put more pressure.
17:30 Similar to that.
17:33 - Exactly, I think even some feints
17:35 would help him in here.
17:36 Feints is just step in a little bit
17:38 and then get that combination out to get inside.
17:41 But you're right, the pressure has been Gomez's game tonight
17:44 and has been very successful thus far.
17:47 But Maravillo, I believe as this fight goes on,
17:51 is starting to find his confidence
17:53 and starting to find his stride,
17:54 find his pace, find his range.
17:56 And that's the beautiful thing.
18:00 This is the beauty of these fights
18:02 is that you can find yourself as a fighter
18:04 and you learn in the moment.
18:06 And we see that as we speak.

21:09 You want to see this challenge in front of you.
21:10 And you want to see your young fighter make adjustments
21:12 and learn and grow in the moment.

21:15 - That moment might be right now for Jorge Maravillo.
21:18 Gomez forced to initiate a clinch.
21:22 - And you want to see Maravillo not trade
21:24 in the middle of the ring, but go back to his jab.
21:26 Keep the footwork, keep the bases going.

21:31 with just using your jab alone and your footwork.

22:07 he would be, but he's adjusting very well in this fight.

22:13 in Maravillo to go out there and continue his evolution
22:17 and, you know, get that experience.
22:19 So you get bigger and better fights,
22:20 but also get better yourself in that journey.
