00:00 Joss, you've been desperate to get out and get this World Cup started for yourselves.
00:06 How short did you fall of what you expected today?
00:10 Not too far. I think we were outplayed by Australia. They fully deserved the win today.
00:16 I think there's a little bit of things we want to tidy up. But they played well with
00:20 intent right at the start, put us under a lot of pressure. I thought we fought back
00:24 relatively well. But I thought their bowling performance was excellent, I think, especially
00:29 those middle overs. I think we got off to a really good start. But the way they controlled
00:34 those middle overs made it tough to hit boundaries. I thought they bowled very well to defend
00:39 the score.
00:41 As far as power players go in this tournament so far, that was the highest yet. As you say,
00:46 you stuck them in and they really got after you and got the game off to a flying start.
00:50 Was there anything you would have done differently in retrospect to try and hold them back? Or
00:55 did they just get away from you?
00:56 Yes, in hindsight it's very easy to make different decisions. We talked a lot in the
01:01 build-up, potentially bowling two overs of spin straight away against the two left-handers.
01:05 Moeen bowled an excellent over first up. So, gut call to go with Jaxi there. But they hit
01:11 some good shots in quite extreme conditions with the short boundary and the wind. It was
01:17 a call that probably didn't come off today.
01:20 In the second innings, you and Phil were up with the rate for a reasonable amount of time.
01:25 Was it disappointing with that platform and the middle-order struggle to keep that momentum
01:29 going?
01:30 I think the middle-overs were always going to be the tough part of that. I think you
01:33 saw in Australia's innings, I think they were 74 maybe after the power play. You saw how
01:40 the wicket changed after that and how more difficult it became. So, we were really aware
01:45 of that. As I said earlier, I thought they bowled very well in those conditions. Guys
01:51 like Cummins and Hazelwood getting hit to that long side, very disciplined to stay away
01:57 from the stumps. They bowled well to the conditions and made it tough for us.
02:01 The group now is trickier than you would like it to be. Are you able to head to Antigua
02:06 now against Orman and Namibia and keep your chins up? Or are you fighting from the corner
02:10 a bit?
02:11 Yes, of course. The situation we find ourselves in is the situation we find ourselves in.
02:16 We've got to be confident, keep our heads up and look forward to the next one and keep
02:21 puffing our chest out and play some really good cricket, which we know we're capable
02:25 of.
02:26 Louis, George.
02:27 Josh, I was just wondering if you could explain what happened with the incident with Matty
02:31 Wade where he kind of pulled away midway through a ball?
02:37 I think he pulled away and then played it. So, I think the umpire was like, 'Well, you
02:43 sort of played it.' But he said he pulled away. And to be honest, I was thinking about
02:48 many other things at that point. So, yes, whether I should have said, 'I don't know
02:53 if he pulled away and let's just carry on.' But the umpire seemed to be like, 'Well, because
02:57 he played it, it's a dot ball.'
03:01 Did you get the sense he was upset you might have been setting a field or was there kind
03:05 of like music playing?
03:06 No, I think he, I don't know, I can't speak for him, but whether he looked up late or
03:11 not, but he seemed ready and then pulled out very late. And I think that's what the umpire
03:15 was saying.
03:16 George, one more question.
03:19 Thank you. First, can you talk us through the decision about the selection, I guess,
03:28 leaving out, I guess it's Woodford-Toppley, is it? And secondly, a bit more on, obviously
03:33 Will Jacks has a bowled a lot, has he, in T20 internationals. So, can you explain the
03:38 thinking around that, please?
03:39 Yeah, I think we've got really good squad selections, always difficult. We wanted to
03:45 use the extra pace of Wood today and yeah, Will Jacks' decision was that he's more than
03:52 an accomplished bowler. He's a very good option with off-spin, he's doing that role well in
03:58 the IPL and made a gut call today, having seen Moeen's first over, it looked difficult
04:03 for the left-handers. So, yeah, simple.
04:06 Was it that late in the season?
04:08 No, there's always an option that we talked about before the game and then having seen
04:14 how the first over played out, that's why I went with Will Jacks.
