'Roaring Kitty's' Livestream Announcement Sends GameStop Shares Soaring 47%

GameStop shares surged more than 47% on Thursday after Keith Gill, aka "Roaring Kitty," announced a scheduled live stream on his YouTube channel for Friday. Gill played a central role in the 2021 GameStop stock frenzy, which prompted congressional hearings on brokerage practices and trading gamification. The stock has more than doubled in value this week. Gill recently resurfaced online, posting screenshots of his E-trade portfolio holding five million shares of GameStop common shares and 120,000 call options, with a combined market value of at least $200 million.
