00:00 I'll do that when we talk.
00:07 We talk over each other otherwise.
00:08 Yes, we have to poke each other.
00:10 Hi, I'm Cathy Roe.
00:15 And I'm Patricia Sell.
00:17 And we are the winners from Race Across the World Series 3.
00:21 Yeah, we're here at Gatwick and there's a new flight that Gatwick are running.
00:26 And it's directly to St. John's in Newfoundland, which just happens to be the finish line of our race.
00:34 And it's only a 5, 5 and a half hour flight.
00:37 So it's not a long haul, it's a short haul journey.
00:40 It's so amazing.
00:42 Well it means that you could do potentially shorter trips to Canada.
00:45 You could have a weekend in Canada.
00:47 Maybe a long weekend.
00:48 But it came about because we had met with some travel industry executives.
00:58 And they were interested in following up on our Canada journey.
01:03 I think at one point I just said to somebody, "God, I'd love to do Trish and Cathy, Canada revisited."
01:11 Or something like that.
01:13 And then suddenly we were contacted and we were asked, "Well, would you like to go back to Newfoundland?"
01:19 And we were like, "Think about it. Yes!"
01:23 I think it took all of about 2 milliseconds to say yes.
01:27 It's that, yes.
01:28 So it's been a few months in the organising.
01:31 But as soon as this flight opened up, then it was perfect.
01:36 It was meant to be.
01:37 The fact that it's going to St. John's is amazing.
01:39 It's amazing that St. John's is closer to the UK than it is to where you started.
01:43 Exactly.
01:44 I was amazed when I heard that.
01:46 Yeah, that's right.
01:47 But the time difference went from 7 hours down to 4 hours, down to 3 hours.
01:51 And so the time difference is really, really small as well.
01:54 I think it's only 2 and a half hours.
01:56 Or maybe 3 and a half hours per hour British, when we move our clocks.
02:00 So I think it's only 3 and a half hours at the moment.
02:03 So it does make it more manageable for a short hop, rather than thinking, "God, I've got to take 2 weeks and go."
02:11 And there's so much to do in Newfoundland.
02:14 So what are you going to be getting up to?
02:16 So we're going on a whale watching tour.
02:18 And we're going to see the Iceberg Alley.
02:22 So all the icebergs are on their way down.
02:24 So we're going to go see some icebergs.
02:26 We're doing a zip-lining adventure.
02:29 Yes!
02:30 We're going to see quite a few historical sites.
02:34 Oh, the Flying Boat Museum.
02:36 Flying Boat Museum.
02:37 Oh, looking forward to that.
02:38 And we're travelling, basically we're staying in kind of central east.
02:43 It's still a big place, even though it's an island.
02:47 And unfortunately, we're not able to go across to Labrador, because the province is Newfoundland and Labrador.
02:54 And just because of the sheer size of the place and the time it takes to get places.
03:01 We are just staying on the island of Newfoundland.
03:04 But we're also going to meet with the guys that gave us a lift right at the very end, Dean and Terry Lynn.
03:10 So we've got to go and meet them, and we've got some little presents for them to say thank you.
03:14 Just so we can say, well we just felt really bad.
03:17 Yeah, because it was very much, "Hi, can we go and have a bite?"
03:20 It was very much big hugs and then liked it.
03:22 So we feel like it would be lovely to go back and say a proper thank you to them.
03:26 So did you contact them?
03:27 Yes.
03:28 So we've had contact with them since we left Canada.
03:33 We contacted everybody that gave us a hand and gave us a lift and stuff.
03:37 And we've been in contact with them, because we wanted to come back.
03:40 They've become really good friends.
03:43 Yeah, I think so.
03:44 So yeah, they're really excited to see us, and we're really excited to see them.
03:48 So we're going to take that from here.
03:50 It would just be lovely to spend some proper time with them that isn't stressed or anxious.
03:56 You seem quite relaxed during the whole series.
03:59 Yeah, especially going up the cable car and getting through Stanley Park.
04:05 That was really easy.
04:06 I was going to say, you're not going back there, are you?
04:08 I thought we weren't talking about Stanley Park.
04:10 No, Stanley Park, no.
04:11 We're not talking about Stanley Park.
04:12 No, we don't do Stanley Park.
04:13 So, being best friends, what would you say to anyone who's thinking about travelling with you?
04:17 Just do it.
04:18 I think we've been best friends for a long, long time.
04:22 So, any kind of...
04:25 sort of our foibles, our ways.
04:30 We're old enough that we accept each other for who we are.
04:33 We don't try and change each other, do we?
04:35 You accept my snoring and go downstairs as we've got a sofa.
04:39 Basically.
04:40 Yeah, yeah.
04:41 And I accept her timing, because her timing's not...
04:46 Not busy.
04:47 I think friendships...
04:52 Friendships, they have to be looked after.
04:56 Yeah, nurture.
04:57 Yeah, you've got to look after your friendships.
04:59 They're important things.
05:01 And I think that you're always going to have disagreements.
05:04 There's always going to be something that the other one does that you think,
05:07 "Why are you doing that?"
05:08 But actually, will it really matter in ten minutes?
05:12 Will it really matter in an hour?
05:14 And you can agree to disagree.
05:15 Of course you can.
05:16 Because everybody's got different opinions.
05:18 But it's fine to have those different opinions.
05:21 Yeah.
05:22 And we talk about things all the time, you know.
05:24 We do.
05:25 And even if I've got a different opinion to you, we discuss it.
05:29 We don't argue about it.
05:30 No, not at all.
05:31 No.
05:32 Because it's...
05:33 And we allow ourselves to be a bit silly sometimes.
05:39 You've got...
05:40 A bit silly?
05:41 A bit, well, okay, a lot in your case.
05:44 Rude!
05:45 But the banter, you've got to have banter with each other.
05:47 And see it that it is banter.
05:49 You're not actually insulting that person.
05:52 It's just, life's so busy, life is stressful.
05:56 And I think a really good friendship is a massive thing.
06:01 It's a massive antidote.
06:03 So how long are you going for?
06:04 A week.
06:05 You're going for a week?
06:06 Yes.
06:07 Lovely. Like I say, it's just your journey, isn't it?
06:08 Yeah, exactly.
06:09 So you're waiting for the right time to take it apart.
06:11 Yeah, exactly.
06:12 We're going to get so much done and see so much.
06:14 I'm so excited.
06:16 I'm like giddy, like a little child.
06:18 I know.
06:19 I do a seagull dance when I get really excited, which is...
06:21 What do you do?
06:22 Seagull dance!
06:23 Honestly, it's like the seagulls when they get in the worms.
06:28 It's like, "Ahh!"
06:29 And we've been doing that for a couple of weeks, haven't we?
06:31 Yes, I did actually do it yesterday.
06:33 Yes, you did.
06:34 To my shame.
06:35 Yes, I've got to do the seagull dance!
06:40 And what would you say to anyone who's thinking about going to Canada as well?
06:43 I mean, it looks amazing.
06:44 It's such a beautiful country.
06:46 The people are beautiful, the country is beautiful, and so diverse.
06:50 So diverse.
06:51 It really is.
06:52 Every province is like its own country.
06:55 But you have this sort of, at the heart of it, are the Canadian people.
07:01 And they're just genuinely lovely, kind, chilled out people.
07:08 Genuinely.
07:10 Nothing to problem, is it?
07:11 No, and they're keen to help you.
07:14 And they're very proud of their country, and so they should be.
07:18 And that's so lovely to see.
07:20 And we want to give them a little heart.
07:22 A little heart.
07:23 Brilliant. Well, thank you very much. Have a wonderful time.
07:27 Thank you. I'm so sorry to have kept you waiting.
07:29 Thank you for being here.
07:31 No problem. No, it's great.
07:32 You can email me or call me.
07:34 Oh, brilliant.
07:35 If I can get a quick...
