Farnham D-Day 80 Commemoration event

A Civic party including Deputy Lieutenant Patrick Crowley MBE, the Mayor of Farnham Councillor Brodie Mauluka, Reverend Sandy Clark, Town Crier Michael Stephens, representatives of the Royal British Legion, Uniformed Personnel and Cadet Forces met at the Town Hall before heading to the War Memorial.

A small contingent of the British Legion, The Mayor of Farnham and Civic guests and representatives, formed up on the west side of South Street, marched to Gostrey Meadow from the Town Hall with the British Legion Standard and positioned around the War Memorial.



Representatives from Farnham Schools’ gathered around the War Memorial including All Hollows Catholic School, All Saints C of E Infant School, Badshot Lea Infant School, Farnham Heath End School, Highfield South Farnham, South Farnham, St Peter’s Primary School, The Ridgeway School, St Andrew’s Infant School and Potters Gate School.
The Mayor of Farnham Cllr Brodie Mauluka introduced the commemoration.
The Deputy Lieutenant read ‘D-Day Heroes’ written by Roy Palmer - Chelsea Pensioner and Herald, from Royal Hospital Chelsea.
Schoolchildren read poems written for the occasion.
The Last Post was played by Steve Burgess, Alder Valley Brass, and the Standard were lowered.
This was followed by a 2-minute silence at 11am.
