00:00 I'm here at Menangal Park in Sydney's southwest where those two cars or two cars have been
00:07 submerged in the flooding behind me and you can't see them at the moment because the water
00:13 is meters deep and moving rapidly.
00:15 Now the incident with the cars happened this morning around 6.30am where two drivers tried
00:20 to cross what was once a road and became stuck in rising flood waters but luckily they escaped
00:28 injury free and the SES arrived to make sure everyone was safe but they say that this isn't
00:34 over.
00:35 While the rain might be set to start to ease, this flood water behind me will continue to
00:41 rise as it heads downstream collecting debris and large trees so the advice is really to
00:46 stay away from flood waters and also keep an eye out for any hazard and weather warnings
00:52 in your local area.
00:53 Yeah and we were just looking at some pictures there, just huge amounts of water there.
00:58 Joseph Hathaway-Wilson you're in Picton, how's it looking where you are?
01:04 That's right Ruby, well it's definitely looking interesting.
01:07 There was a warning issued earlier this morning at about a quarter to eight asking people
01:11 to prepare to evacuate.
01:13 Then at about eleven that was rescinded and then it was subsequently reinstated.
01:18 So that's the warning was issued, then it was taken back and now it's been issued again.
01:22 Despite that, shops are seemingly intent on staying open.
01:27 They were mostly closed up earlier this morning and you can see sandbags around doorways and
01:30 around windows but those have since been removed and people don't seem to have put them back
01:35 in place.
01:36 Everyone seems pretty intent on going about their daily lives.
01:39 The Stone Quarry Creek which you can see behind me was formerly at risk of overflowing but
01:44 that has since dropped down to a pretty easy level.
01:48 So would you say residents are sort of feeling a lot calmer now that things seem to be settling
01:52 down?
01:55 It definitely seems like it Ruby.
01:57 They're feeling a lot calmer but there's also a sense of frustration.
02:00 We spoke a little bit earlier with the mayor and we've also spoken with some local residents
02:04 who say that this is the sixth or seventh time this year that they've been issued with
02:08 a prepare to evacuate notice.
02:10 But not all of those notices have come before floods and sometimes they've just missed out
02:15 on a day of business or a day of being out in the town which has led to huge economic
02:20 downfall.
02:22 So yeah there's a little bit of frustration here and also people just wanting to get on
02:26 with their lives now that the fear of floods seems to have subsided just a bit.
02:32 It's always an ongoing process working with those warnings and how to make them more accurate.
02:37 Joseph Hathaway-Wilson in Picton and Tani Jash in Menanggal.
02:40 Thank you for the updates.
