00:13The Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Metro Manila Development Authority or MMDA are all here.

00:20They are carrying out a clean-up drive to maintain the cleanliness of Pasig River, other tributaries of Pasig River and other low-lying areas like Marikina.

00:33Every Friday, they are carrying out a clean-up drive, especially in preparation for the upcoming rains and floods.

00:43Earlier this morning, the MMDA, PCG, and DNR started carrying out a clean-up drive.

00:53At this point, we will talk to Coast Guard Lieutenant Mizar Cumbe.

01:08Good morning to all of you.

01:10As we can see, you have already collected a lot of trash.

01:15What do you use to collect the trash?

01:18Do you have machines to collect the trash faster?

01:23Do you have water hyacinths?

01:24Yes, our DNR has trash boats to collect the trash.

01:32As for the Philippine Coast Guard, we have improvised scoops to scoop the trash and put it in a bag.

01:40We put the trash in a bag and throw it in the right place.

01:47How much trash do you collect and where do you put it?

01:54We collect trash in 200 sacks or equivalent to 5,000 kilos of assorted garbage.

02:06Especially the plastics that are hazardous to our river.

02:14How important are the tributaries, estuaries, and rivers?

02:20How can they be kept clean especially now that it is raining?

02:25The river is very important.

02:28It needs to be cleaned so that when it rains, the water won't get stuck.

02:34If the water gets stuck because of the trash, there will be flooding.

02:38We continuously rehabilitate the Pasig River.

02:42Our local government units, DNR, and MMDA are there.

02:49How many tributaries do you have?

02:52Do you have people coming every Friday to collect the water hyacinths and trash?

02:59Yes, ma'am.

03:00We have a schedule.

03:01For example, this Friday, the LGU of Manila will be in Toka.

03:06They will be there.

03:08MMDA, DNR, and the Coast Guard will be there.

03:13Next Friday is Taguig.

03:17We have Toka-Toka for each local government unit.

03:20What are the things that our countrymen should remember so that they can help with the cleanup drive

03:27even if they are not personally here, they can still help.

03:32Especially, even if you do the cleanup every Friday, you still collect a lot of trash.

03:38So, our call to our countrymen is not to throw trash in our river or any other coastal areas.
