00:00Yeah tough match for me as always she played at a tough level and it was I
00:09think I made a lot of errors but you know overall I am happy well I don't
00:14know about happy but I'm proud of the the run and I hope to go further next
00:18time you proved you can beat her on hardcore but how can you explain how
00:30difficult it is to player on clay what the difference is um I mean I don't know
00:37if it's a big difference in our particular head-to-head I've lost to her
00:41on clay and hard so yeah I don't know if it plays much of a role but I mean
00:48she is tougher on clay I don't I think she's just more comfortable moving in
00:53the ball slows down so she's able to you know dictate the point how she wants
00:59okay there was obviously quite a frustrating moment for you in the second
01:02set with the serve that was then over rule can you just talk us through that
01:06moment and the frustrations going through your mind at that point yeah I
01:10think it was just a overwhelming of everything obviously I'm losing the
01:15match and then you know when you're playing against her like every every
01:19point matters against anybody but especially against her so I think it was
01:23just a one of those moments but I overcame it I obviously won that game so
01:28I usually don't get too frustrated with like decisions like that but I think it
01:35was just like a combination of everything going on in the moment hi Coco
01:42just following up on that do you think that that's an area that tennis could
01:46bring in some kind of a replay appeal system like Hawkeye where it could you
01:52know the umpire or someone could look at that look at a replay of that and then
01:56make a judgment based on that rather than having to do it in the moment 100%
02:01I think it's you know tennis is the only sport where not only we don't have the
02:06VR system but a lot of times the decisions are you know made by one
02:12person and other sports there's usually a multiple refs and and making a
02:17decision and I know us open I think brought some of it last year believe and
02:22I know we use it in our doubles at one point so yeah I definitely think that at
02:28this point it's almost ridiculous that we don't have it not also just speaking
02:33because that happened to me but I just think you know every sport has it and
02:36also there's so many decisions that are made and it sucks as a player to like go
02:41back or online and you see that you were completely right and it's like you know
02:46what what does that give you in that moment and also you know in situations
02:51you can call for the supervisor but there's not much they can do from that
02:55standpoint so I definitely think as a sport we have to evolve and we have the
03:00technology they're showing it on TV so I don't get why the player can't see it
03:05hi Coco I'm curious how you would describe your game plan going into
03:11today's match and and whether you think the issue is the plan or the execution
03:15is it a plan that you would maybe try and implement again yeah I think it was
03:19the execution that I you know didn't do well on I had a lot a couple break
03:24points in the early in the first set to break back and I made errors a lot of
03:30short ball errors and I think you know for the most part I do think it I had
03:35the right idea but I think I just made too many errors a lot of I feel like I
03:40wasn't always like BAM like hit off the court today I just felt like I made too
03:46many errors especially on shorter balls
03:58thanks so when you're playing you good do you feel that you come on the court
04:05and you know you're going for smaller targets than you are and you you're
04:10trying to be even a higher level of perfect is that something or are you
04:15able to just sort of play and I'm just sort of curious like that dynamic of
04:20what's going through your head when you're going to play this person who's
04:23you know I think on Monday just one spot ahead of you in the rankings yes so
04:28seemingly close but also you know you mentioned the head-to-head thing I mean
04:33I mean if you're playing against anybody on I would say the top like ten I feel
04:40like the margins are smaller even against on I felt like my margins were
04:45smaller and that's just when you play higher ranked players you know that some
04:50mistakes that you make aren't gonna you know when you're playing somebody who
04:54maybe isn't X is experienced or it's just you know Lord not as talented maybe
04:59you know that eventually you're gonna get back some of the mistakes and when
05:04you're playing anybody honestly in the top ten at this point you know that you
05:09can't give anybody free points so yeah I feel like against her and against any
05:13top player you do feel like your margins are smaller because you know they're not
05:19probably not going to give that back to you and if they do it's not maybe at a
05:23scale of somebody who's less experienced
05:28matchup like some players are best or worst matchup compared to others I wonder
05:33if do you feel like a guy is just a bad matchup for you and it's just extreme
05:37bad luck that happens to be the world number one oh I mean she's a tough
05:42matchup for me obviously I'm not gonna like I think the numbers answer that
05:47question you obviously came out I'm trying to be really aggressive you've
05:55talked a lot about one thing to play a more attacking tennis I'm curious how
05:59comfortable in a big match does that just feel you know playing that way yeah
06:05I actually you know I actually didn't feel like uncomfortable today and I did
06:11make more errors than I'm used to but I mean I feel like I have to know that I'm
06:17developing and I'm changing the way that I played and you know when I started on
06:23tour is a lot I guess weaker I guess and everybody younger and so I had to play a
06:30certain way to win and and now if I want to transcend to the next level there's a
06:34different way to play not that I can't play defense and I can't you know play
06:38not passive but you know making them work for the point but also know that if
06:44I want to win more and be can stay at the top then I have to you know be
06:49aggressive in certain moments and especially against her and a lot of
06:53times I got the ball that I wanted I just made mistakes congrats Coco in a
07:02good tournament and you rise in the rankings kind of a tough question but
07:06can you talk about the rivalry and in the near future do you think it's
07:11something that you'll be able to turn around pretty soon do you think it's
07:14going to be tough for a while what what are ideas yeah I think long term I feel
07:20like it's definitely something I mean I can't sit here and say it's something I'm
07:23not gonna want to turn around I have to be positive and believe in myself and
07:28today I felt very confident going into the match and I know that there's things
07:33that I can improve to make this a closer scoreline like first serve percentage
07:37was pretty low I think and you know from Rome to like this week I improved a lot
07:43on my serve and even though it's not where I wanted to be but going from like
07:4915 double faults and maybe three or four today I don't know you know it's a big
07:54improvement so I don't feel like my game is all the way developed yet so I I feel
08:01like when I I guess feel like I reached my peak then I can maybe answer the
08:05question but I definitely don't think I'm there yet
08:14how long do you think you'll think about this maybe be disappointed in it or how
08:22until you are ready to turn the page and move forward and think about what's
08:28next look ahead to Wimbledon etc um I don't think not long because I have
08:35doubles tomorrow and I have a good a great partner and I feel like we have a
08:40good shot to win so I really want to win a double slam just so I can you know I
08:47don't know what I don't want to like say close that chapter of my career but it's
08:51something that I feel like once I do it I don't know if all I will continue to
08:56chase more not saying I won't play doubles but so I'm focused on that like
09:00I don't want to let one thing I learned from the final two years ago is that I
09:05had to play doubles final the next day and I think I let the negativity of my
09:09loss the previous day take over into another grand slam final so same
09:15scenario basically semi-final semi-final so I just want to you know start on a
09:19clean state try my best to do what I can do to help you know my teammate and
09:25then probably after this tournament is over I will think about it but I'm gonna
09:30give myself amnesia and just like think about it later because I still have a
09:35chance at a trophy thanks
