00:00 So we are preparing for the Euros 2024 which is starting next Friday the 14th of June with
00:04 Scotland kicking off the competition with a match against Germany. Scotland's hospitality sector has
00:09 been buzzing with venues getting merch out, installing screens, all in preparation for the
00:13 games. To get us in the mood we've been exploring the food cultures of some of the countries playing
00:18 which may offer some inspiration to you if you're looking for a means to celebrate the teams.
00:22 Here we visited Turkey Efe's in the Merchant City. Turkish cuisine is extremely colourful,
00:27 vibrant and hearty, utilising lots of vegetables, legumes, meats and yogurt. It takes influence from
00:32 Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Central Asian and Eastern European cultures. That's why you may
00:37 recognise some of the dishes or associate them with another place. Every table gets some Turkish
00:42 balloon bread to start with and some homemade butter. Sprinkled with sesame seeds is a delicious
00:47 and really fair portion. Then I tried the falafel and hummus dish, all freshly made, I really enjoyed
00:52 this. Then there was a vegetable pie, so this is a Turkish flatbread, you can also get some meats as
00:57 a topping. It's very similar to a pizza, the main difference being it doesn't include sauce. I would
01:02 definitely have this again. This is a great gem just outside the centre of Glasgow and right
01:07 beside the Merchant Square fan zone, so maybe you can go there pre or post Turkey matches.
