00:00Slam 25. Mark Levin here at Blowback Headquarters in the heart of Manhattan. Hard to believe
00:14it was 25 years ago that we went out to Sundance with Slam and ended up winning the grand prize.
00:21And now, thanks to the Sundance Institute, the Academy of Motion Pictures, and UCLA,
00:28we are returning with a digitally restored version of Slam. The story of a young black
00:33poet who's busted on a small marijuana charge and thrown into the D.C. jail, where amazingly
00:41finds his voice and salvation through his rhymes. The story continues. Today, Saul Williams
00:52is just back from a world tour with his latest film, Neptune Frost. Sonia Sohn has teamed
00:58up with Blowback on two HBO documentaries, the latest, The Slow Hustle. Lisa Jessie Peterson
01:06just completed Angola. Can you hear us? She's up for Academy consideration for a short film.
01:13Bones Malone and I are working together on bringing a low-life story to television. And
01:20Mamalou Stewart is a free man and working with us on Halim, super predator to superhero.
01:30You know, we're all caught in our own cells, kind of locked up in our own jails, whether
01:40it's physical or metaphysical. And the key to freedom really is the creative spirit.
01:48That's what this film was all about. And I hope you come join us during this opening
01:53weekend at Sundance for Slam 25, going back to the mountaintop. Spread the word.
