At a press briefing yesterday, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) was asked what his role is in former President Trump's campaign after the ex-President was found guilty in his NYC hush money trial.

00:00 Yes, ma'am.
00:01 Hi, Governor.
00:02 How are you?
00:03 Good.
00:04 Moving forward, following Donald Trump's conviction, what is your role in the Trump
00:05 campaign going to look like?
00:06 Do you plan to travel with him?
00:07 Do you plan to help him raise any money?
00:13 So I think it's been reported.
00:16 We've been active in raising money.
00:18 I think it's important, and we're going to continue to do that.
00:21 I don't think that in this state there's going to be much of a campaign because we're now
00:26 a solid Republican state.
00:28 We weren't when I became governor, but now we are.
00:35 And so I don't think that the statewide races are competitive at all.
00:41 I think that that's just the reality of the situation, and that's good.
00:45 We're proud of what we've done.
00:47 When I became governor, I think there were 300,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans
00:53 in Florida, and we had never in the history of Florida ever had more registered Republicans
00:58 than Democrats.
01:00 Today, five and a half years later, we have 930,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats.
01:09 Nobody can match that.
01:14 And so that's just the reality that we see in terms of politics.
01:20 I think people were just so used to Florida being such a close state because it was for
01:25 many decades.
01:27 2022 kind of blew that out of the water, and so now we're in a different spot politically.
01:33 But I do think just given our level of support, we've been able to enjoy, we've got an ability
01:38 to help in that regard.
01:40 I will say this.
01:42 This election, not in Florida, I think has been beneficial for Republicans, but you have
01:47 had more internal migration in this country from 2020 to 2024 than in most four-year stretches
01:54 in our history, and maybe more than any stretch.
01:57 And so how many Republicans, you know, we have all these new people, you know, how many
02:03 of them came from Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, some of these key states?
02:07 And I don't know the answer to that, but I think that you're likely to see some of the
02:14 states maybe behave a little bit different than four years ago, because I think the electorates
02:18 have changed pretty significantly, respectfully, for a four-year period.
02:22 It's usually very stable, but I just think that, and you know, you had Fauci up there
02:27 with that circus yesterday, but I mean, you know, his policies really became ingrained
02:33 in some of these blue states, and it just destroyed the quality of life there, so people
02:38 fled.
02:39 They ran to Florida, they ran to Tennessee, Texas, all these other places, and that's
02:45 been something that's been really significant.
02:47 It's not just a little blip, it's not just a little on the edges.
02:50 I mean, I do think you've seen serious, serious change, so stay tuned on how that is going
02:56 to shake out.
02:57 But it's interesting, because I can tell you this state will behave differently in '24
03:01 compared to it did in 2016 and 2020, because the state's more Republican now.
03:08 Yep?
