00:00 In space, nobody can hear you scream.
00:03 But even from orbit, you can probably hear the collective buzz unleashed by this heart-stopping
00:07 new footage for the next Alien film.
00:10 The first official trailer for Alien Romulus has finally dropped, and the reactions are
00:14 pretty much unanimous.
00:16 Audiences simply can't wait to watch yet another cast of soon-to-be-victims attempt to survive
00:20 some of the most terrifying, chest-bursting, existential horror they've ever had the cosmic
00:25 misfortune to experience.
00:27 Neither Sigourney Weaver's beloved Ellen Ripley nor original director Ridley Scott are part
00:31 of the action this time around, having passed the mantle down to rising star Kayleigh Spaney
00:36 and Don't Breathe filmmaker Fede Alvarez.
00:38 But the new film sure looks like it's bringing everything else fans have come to expect from
00:42 the classic sci-fi series.
00:43 While Scott's divisive prequel efforts Prometheus and Alien Covenant have garnered their fair
00:48 share of supporters and detractors in recent years, all indications seem to be that Romulus
00:52 might be exactly the return to its roots that this blockbuster franchise needed.
00:57 "Are you sure you want to do this?"
01:01 The wait until the film's release later this August just became exponentially more difficult
01:04 to suffer through, but at least nobody has to do so alone.
01:08 As if the original teaser released back in March wasn't exciting enough, the full-length
01:12 trailer caused practically the entire internet to light up with hype thanks to plenty of
01:16 gnarly jump scares and freaky creature designs, some seriously stunning cinematography, and
01:21 all the mayhem one could ask for from this series.
01:23 But don't just take our word for it.
01:25 Here's what the fans are saying about the impending release of Alien Romulus.
01:29 There's always a certain level of risk that comes with new installments of classic franchises,
01:34 but there's no shortage of reasons to believe that Alien remains in safe hands with Fede
01:38 Alvarez.
01:39 The filmmaker has said all the right things so far, teasing the old-school aesthetics
01:42 behind the technology on display in Romulus, leaning hard on the advice and wisdom of directors
01:47 Ridley Scott and James Cameron, and even relying on much of the same crew that helped build
01:51 the original Xenomorph Queen.
01:53 But as far as fan reactions go, the images from the trailer are doing all the talking.
01:58 Viewers were quick to note just how gorgeous the visuals of Romulus look from the newly
02:02 released footage, starting from the very opening shot of raindrops splattered across a gloomy
02:07 window.
02:08 One user explained as much in a post on X, "I stopped watching the new Alien Romulus
02:12 trailer right at the opening frame.
02:14 Raindrops on a window with Venetian blinds?
02:16 Vaguely futuristic city nightscape blurred in the background?
02:19 I'm in.
02:20 I'm sold.
02:21 See you opening night."
02:22 Another user echoed those thoughts, calling the trailer "gorgeous" and noting the very
02:25 reassuring influences that Romulus appears to be drawing from, as they put it, "definitely
02:30 giving off the same aesthetic as both the original 1979 classic and its amazing 1986
02:36 sequel."
02:37 This lines up perfectly with what Alvarez himself recently told Empire, stating that,
02:41 "To ask an Alien fan to choose between them is a perverse question."
02:45 Moviegoers can expect the best of both worlds, and that's fully on display throughout this
02:49 trailer.
02:50 However, we have to pause and give a shout out to the editors of this new footage as
02:53 well.
02:54 If it's true that trailers can be an art in and of themselves, then this one for Alien
02:58 Romulus might have cemented its status as the best of the year so far.
03:02 Fans are even loving the way the trailer incorporates the classic Alien tagline.
03:06 As one X user wrote, "I loved how they turned the iconic tagline into their own thing.
03:11 It's super clever."
03:12 In any case, Alien fans clearly recognize a well-made trailer when they see one.
03:17 Over on Reddit, internet users lavished praise on everything from the moment where a character
03:21 uses a high-powered light to see the chestburster inside them, to the intense sound design of
03:25 all the gruesome kills, to the novelty of seeing a young cast of characters thrown into
03:29 a situation they're not remotely prepared for.
03:33 Alien Romulus bursts into theaters on August 16th, 2024.
