00:00 It's currently raining a little bit in Melbourne CBD and it's about this much water that it
00:05 took to shut down one of the main train stations in the City Loop this morning.
00:09 A leak in the roof of Melbourne Central Station was detected at about 5am and authorities
00:14 closed off the station to passengers as they tried to assess how dangerous it was and the
00:19 level of damage.
00:20 So not a lot of water but still given it was near electrical circuits they weren't taking
00:24 any chances and so it was closed for the entire morning peak.
00:28 One thing you need to know about Melbourne Central is it's an underground train station
00:31 so while the top level is where you enter from the bottom two levels are platforms that
00:36 the trains go through.
00:38 So the trains have basically been running without taking passengers meaning that all
00:41 the other stations in the City Loop have been open which is great news for the hundreds
00:45 of thousands of people that use it every day.
00:48 They've just had about a 10 minute walk once they discovered that the station was closed
00:52 to get to either Parliament or Flagstaff or they've been using tramps.
00:56 We haven't been able to ascertain exactly when the station will reopen at this point
01:02 but fortunately it appears not to have affected people's commutes too much.
