00:00Thank you, Ted.
00:02Questions?
00:03Max?
00:04With President Biden slated to release his executive order later today on the border,
00:09curious your thoughts on the proposal and whether you support the action.
00:14You know, Republicans have shown, you know, time and time again that they are unserious
00:19about this issue.
00:22And I think that's the most, you know, problematic.
00:26President Trump tells Senate Republicans to turn back a bipartisan compromise.
00:32Speaker Johnson, you know, turns down, you know, the ability to bring something like
00:37this to the floor.
00:39That's because Republicans are more concerned about keeping this as a campaign issue than
00:43they are about governing and solutions.
00:45The bottom line is House Democrats believe we can and should secure our border while
00:52opening up more legal pathways that, by the way, have been the reason why we have had
00:58success and success is defined by two thirds of unauthorized crossings.
01:04That's the reduction.
01:05It's been reduced by two thirds, unauthorized crossings at the southern border in the last
01:10six months.
01:11And it's because of a combination of Joe Biden's policies to support enforcement and Border
01:17Patrol and give them the resources and the tools that they need, even when House Republicans
01:22voted to cut those budgets, combined with opening up legal pathways for people to come
01:30into this country.
01:32And that's exactly what the Biden administration has prioritized.
01:36But we have to do both.
01:38We have to provide opportunities for individuals who have family members who are undocumented
01:45to contribute and to be part of the fabric of this country.
01:49We think that the American people understand that individuals who have been living with
01:53someone who is undocumented for 20 years or 30 years, they should have that ability to
01:59become citizens and to become lawful permanent residents and to become a part of this economy
02:07because they are part of the fabric of our of our communities.
02:11And so, you know, we need to continue to do both of those strategies.
02:16And I'm concerned that this is just, you know, the enforcement only side of the strategy.
02:22But I'm confident that we can continue to lift up programs like temporary protected
02:27status, like support for those with DACA, like helping families who have a loved one
02:36who is undocumented within their household spouses, for instance.
02:42Those are things that we can do and that the Biden administration should be looking at.
02:46And that's what but I'm going to I have not seen the full language of the EO.
02:51I look forward to reading it when it's released this afternoon.
