00:00This is the trailer for the Chinese horror film Senestrity.
00:03Stay tuned after the trailer for more information about the movie and a short review.
01:00Senestrity is about a young and talented photographer, however, he can also see ghosts,
01:25the visions of a mysterious woman that he can't explain.
01:28When his assistant-turned-lover is killed in a tragic accident, the fourth mysterious
01:33death of a loved one in his life, he visits a shaman who is able to bring her back to
01:37life.
01:38This leads him into exploring his past, where he uncovers the source of his bad luck and
01:43how he can end it.
01:44This movie is originally presented in Cantonese, however, there is a dubbed Mandarin version
01:49available.
01:50The two versions are identical.
01:52This movie is directed by Hong Kong writer and director Hung Wah Tony Leung, whose previous
01:57directing works include A Wicked Ghost, Vampire Controller and PTU file Death Trap.
02:04Leading the way in the film is poor old Hong Kong actor Carlos Chan, who has a varied career
02:09of hits and misses including the awesome legally declared dead and happiness, and the terrible
02:15horror films Binding Souls and Buyer Beware.
02:18Alongside Chan is another Chan, Rose Chan.
02:21She's from Ip Man, A Legend is Born and Seven Assassins, with Ava Liu taking up the
02:27sexy role from Lan Kwai Fong movies, Donnie Yen's Awful Iceman film and drama Sexy Central.
02:35The movie released on October 29, 2021 in Chinese cinemas, with web-streaming releases
02:40in Hong Kong and Taiwan earlier in 2022.
02:44The film though is very typical mainland Chinese horror, even though this is a Hong Kong co-production.
02:49It's very badly overacted, but the storyline had potential if it wasn't bogged down by
02:54unnecessary detail and the aforementioned poor acting.
02:57Using our patent pending ghost rating, which stands for Great Horror or Stupid Trash, I award this film one ghost.
03:03The lighting in the film is so bright it gives off vibes of a romance movie.
03:08The scares are very tame and the story needs more attention.
03:11At least the make-up of the ghost bride was acceptable and her character was the best one of the lot,
03:16and that says a lot since she hardly does anything.
03:19Best to avoid this and look for something far better instead.
